I live in Rockport Ma. not directly on the ocean but a 60 second drive puts me at the shore line. This morning the air temperature was -6F and the ocean surface temperature is right around 39. As the warmth of the sea water rises into the cold air it creates a smoke or mist we call Sea Smoke.

The twin light houses are on Thacher Island. The original towers were erected in 1789 and replaced with the current granite towers in 1863. In 1967 a man often called the animal and known as Joseph Barbosa, a Mafia crime figure vacationed there compliments of the federal government while under the witness protection program. His testimony put several Mafia crime bosses behind bars.

That ghostly quality make these excellent photos look like paintings.

Sea Smoke, yea, seen it many times on a ship I was on out of Newport, RI in the 1960's.

I won a salmon fishing tournament - 28# salmon on 8# line, 25 minute fight, 25 times around the boat. When I keyed the mike to announce it to the rest of the fleet, the radio I had on started playing Smoke on the water. I held the mike to the speaker for the opening bars and made my announcement.

A special day with a song I'll always have in my heart.
