Default Orchids......

Orchid Exhibit at our local zoo. Amazed at the seemingly infinate variety and design in God's creation. Some incredible "non-metallic" beauty.

Is it true that orchids have no scent?

Heard that, years back, but don't recall where, so might just be like, "shoot a 44 magnum without wearing gloves and the checking will peel the skin off your hand". Something morons tell other folk.

I love flowers. When I am around them, I am at peace with the world. I appreciated all the pics.

My wife had a looooong (read "expensive") run of buying and immediately killing orchids. Then she got serious and has 7-8 indoor plants that are doing extremely well. She uses the "old" water from a couple of beta fish to water and fertilize them and swears by it.

I lived on a small island in the Pacific as a kid.
We had orchids all over the front yard.
Of course, it's been so long since I was a kid that
all I recall is a vague purple and white notion of color.

The Japanese controlled the island before and during WWII.
The building next door to the house we lived in was their
headquarters (tallest on the island.) I think they may have
started growing orchids in the yard. Maybe to go along with the
ornamental fish pond beside the door of "our" house.

Not true. I had one that smelled just like Coconut or more like Coppertone and others smell like flowers.

Most don't have a scent but a few will knock your socks off.

One I've had for quite a few years bloomed and gave a great fragrance. I never found it fragrant before.

Vanilla is made from orchid seeds. I appreciate them for that.

Quite a few years ago, I bought a few orchids. They were fabulous to look at, but I never got one of them to re-bloom. As I am not really a gardener at heart, they all ultimately slipped by the wayside.
