Default In the hospital

Welp, I got sick 2 weeks ago and it progressively got worse. Being the stubborn mule I am, I didn't go to the doctor until yesterday.

Doctor looks at my numbers and tells me I have a sinus infection, bronchitis, and that I need to get to the emergency room asap because my heart rate is over 150bpm.

Get to the er and in the triage room. Nurse takes my numbers then immediately issues an alert over the intercom and rushes me back to a room.

Turns out I have hyperthyroidism in addition to the illnesses. Between trying to fight the illness, and trying to deal with the thyroid over output, my body was getting ready to give up. Got admitted last night, and I have to stay tonight. Tomorrow should be the day I go home.

Silver lining is that the thyroid is most likely the reason that every time I've gotten sick in the past 6 months, it's been really hard on me. Hopefully with the thyroid meds, this will stop.

Tony

Take care Kid. Hope all goes well and you are well soon.

I did this last Sept 12th or 15th. If you want to see hardheaded look at one of the Missouri mules which are the original.

Like you ended up with lots of bad stuff. Man I hate it, used to be able t jump off a high cliff and walk a way. Nothing in my public school education mentioned this......

I'm sorry to hear you are in the hospital but glad they caught your thyroid condition. The treatment is pretty straight forward so they should be able to get it under control soon. Sending a healing prayer to you.

Did a week in hospital last August, near pneumonia and asthma. Dismal experience, apart from just one hot blonde nurse. (Yes, I have pics. But no permission to post them.)

Food wasn't too bad, and the hospital beat the VA. But still, GLAD to get home.

I feel for you. Prayers enroute.

Default I've found that having muliple illnesses.....

Like you, I've found that having multiple illnesses muddy the water as far as what is causing what symptoms and lead to chasing wild geese. Often, a condition goes neglected because other problems are demanding more immediate attention. Denial and frustration weigh in, also.

An extreme case is a good friend of mine. Polio, terrific joint and back problems, COPD, epilepsy, asthma. The poor guy has so much going on that he neglected to get a colonoscopy and now has inoperable cancer.

With me, multiple conditions led to a bad case of dehydration which caused my kidneys to fail. It was only quick emergency treatment that kept me from being on dialysis.

Try to keep a clear head about symptoms and what could be causing what. Without being a hypochondriac try to account for everything and don't ignore certain symptoms in favor of demanding ones.

Exactly what you have is running rampant down here. I delayed going to the doctor and ended up in the emergency room but they let me go with the antibiotics to cure it.

My best friend hesitated even longer and pretty much repeated your experience. The local (Mexican) hospital is not that bad at all and it's a lot cheaper than you might expect.

But still....

You should be starting to feel better shortly. Although I have had a persistent cough that is only slowly going away but I think that's somewhat of a "dry air, dusty air" allergy on top of everything else.

Don't delay annual checkups if you're over 40. Early detection of health issues can save you a lot of grief...and your life. Five years ago I went in for my annual checkup, and came out with a diagnosis of leukemia. Luckily it was caught in its early stages, treated, and I'm in full remission.

Thoughts and prayers your way for a speedy recovery. I have recently learned a valuable lesson and I hope you will do likewise.

Don't wait until something hurts to go to the doctor. Get a routine check up as your doctor recommends. And if something already hurts for darn sure go see your doctor!

Most of us in here are of the age that it way past time to let all that stubborn macho bravo sierra go and take care of yourself.

We let ourselves go for a couple of years due to a lot of family drama and I nearly waited to long. Actually if it wasn't for my wife staying on my case I'd probably have died about 10 years ago from colon cancer. But I go under the scope every 3 years and the things that would surely have gotten me were discovered and "snipped" early, before they could get bad.

Take care and let us know how you are getting along. God bless....
