Looks like I am going to have to go prints rolled and such on my amusing quest for due process vindication. According to my letter my denial resulted from matching a record of someoner denied under Title 18 USC 921a and 922g1, ie matched a convicted gelond. Which was interesting as I have never been arrested let alone convicted related to any crime. Eh, at least I don't have a warrant out for a decade old unpaid parking ticket or something. In other words, wrong guy. Sighs. So now I get to have prints taken, which is the procedure to do the next step in getting a denial over turned via appeal, not that it will matter because the appeal backlog is far longer than the just less than 90 days that a transaction stays in the system.

So...time to get that state permit and get prints rolled to get a UPIN file going, with an over a year backlog....and which still doesn't guarantee that such "got the wrong guy" denials don't happen.

Glad you got your answer and a solution to get it resolved.....it had to have been a concern, even a mild one, since you knew you had nothing in your record.

The state permit and UPIN should prevent future problems.

seems to me the form you have to fill out when making a purchase
has a place for you to put your social security number. This is not a
requirement but is noted as possibly assisting in the buying process. I
always go ahead and provide my SS number and I have never had any
delays. Do you?

Title 18 USC 921 and 922 are both federal gun charges, so even a close match on the name without any other matches will get the brakes applied. Good idea to go ahead and get a UPIN.

I know of a guy that was denied because it was said he was a convicted felon. Turns out a guy in prison in Florida had stolen his identity and was in prison as the other guy. The kicker is Florida knew this trash was not who he said and continued to allow this guy to use the stolen identity while serving time. Cost the guy 30 grand to get it straightened out enough to buy a gun again but nothing was done to the prison trash.

A very good friend filed for the next 5 years on his CCW in Ar has had it for 5 years and was denied, said he had a felony in 1965. The way he remembers it was he was 18 and the felony was reduced to a mis- demeanor with all the stipulations met: graduate from hi school, get a job and 6 months probation. Now when he trys to get his court papers they say they had a fire and a lot of records were lost including his. He will have to get a lawyer and try to get it expunged. I hope he is successful as he has been voting for 51 years and has bought many S&W's. Jeff

I get put on wait sometimes and then get approved on the spot on others,Go figure.

A good friend of mine got delayed every single time he tried to buy a firearm because he had a police record.
Of course he had a police record, he was a retired COP!
They generally got it sorted out in 3-4 days. But, what a PITA!

Tell me again how this system is supposed to help?

Amazing the arrest files weren't destroyed; just the reduction of charges files. Must store them different.

Can you get a concealed carry permit without having this denial overturned?

If so, I would do that and then you don't have to do a NICS check.

Just imagine the nightmare that would ensue if "Universal Background Checks" were ever required? We need to continue and never cease in the never ending battle to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights.

I listed my SSN, did not seem to matter. However, I purchased three other guns relatively close to my denial, and all went to approved status in minutes. Shrug.

As far as I understand, getting the prints rolled for a state permit will show the same thing that rolling them for NICS will, that I am not the other guy.

I got a CWP in South Carolina. Buying a gun takes about as long as getting a coca-cola out of a vending machine. You might check and see if your state treats licensed concealed holders the same way. There is no NCIS check if you have already been vetted in this state.

That is not the case in every state. I've had a concealed carry permit for over 20 years and still have to go through the check every time I buy a gun in Oklahoma. In the last three or four years, I've been put on hold about 40% of the time.
