Routine medical procedures are performed on people not in your family
Family member having a "routine" procedure tomorrow.
It is discussed as a routine procedure, but when it's on your own flesh and blood it does not feel that way
Makes me feel that if I were a famous celebrity I would want to call a press conference and publicly apologize to anyone I have hurt by not taking situation appropriate care to consider what THEY were feeling and going through.

Nothing "routine" about any invasive procedure.
Hoping all remains well at this time.

Yep, ther's no sure thing.....
But if the procedure will help something, the low risk of some procedures is offset by the benefit.
Prayers for a good outcome.

Everyone at the hospital, orderlies, nurses and doctors treated my family member with skill and compassion.
God Blessed us with a good outcome.

Depending on your definition of surgery, my daughter has had well over 300. Yes, no stuttering there. Some truly are 'standard' with little chance of complications, but there remains some chance, no matter how routine. The radio said a few weeks ago that 25% of people who go into the hospital develop some type of problem they didn't have before admission, including infections, contagious conditions like colds or flu. And according to statistics, the medical profession is responsible for over 900,000 deaths per year (yup, no stuttering there either) from mistakes. My daughter and I are constantly on guard for this and end up correcting medical staff at least a couple times every time she is admitted. Granted, she is a very complicated case, but everything is in her records. Unfortunately many of the medical profession are too busy to read records, especially if they are complex. This is caused from under staffing of nurses in the hospital's quest for more money, and the arrogance of some Dr.s who think they already know everything.
My advice, and this is based on over 40 years of experience, take nothing for granted. Carry with you on your cell phone, a complete list of medicines, dosages, complete medical history, allergies, doctors names with their phone numbers and your pharmacy phone number. Carry a similar file for your spouse (and make sure they carry one for you), and your children. It helps prevent mistakes at a time when your mind may not be working at it's best, such as in an emergency. Been there, done that, multiple times.
