Dirty Harry
I'm working on a screenplay for another Dirty Harry sequel and need some help with dialogue. This will be part sequel and part homage, so I plan on revisiting some familiar scenes and reusing some of Harry's dry repartee that we all know and love.
Since no one but Clint can play Harry, we catch up with him in present time as he makes his way to the bank to deposit his Social Security check. The bank robbery scene from the original film is reprised and once again Harry springs (or shuffles) into action. We pick up the scene as the wounded robber is deciding whether to reach for his shotgun.
This is where I need help: if Harry is still carrying his Model 29, then the line would go like this - “Being as this is a .44 Magnum, the 8th most powerful handgun in the world and will probably dent your skull...”
On the other hand, if Harry has changed with the times, he will be packing an M&P, so he will have to say “I know what you're thinking – 'did he fire 17 rounds, or only 16?' well to tell you the truth, in all the excitement...”
So what should it be: classic Callahan or 21st Century Harry?

Neither. Harry would be toting a .500 Magnum:
"But being this is a .500 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off the planet, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do you, punk? What did I say? I can't hear you... that ringing in my ears won't go away."
Harry pauses, the robber cringes and Harry cuffs him slowly.

Nah, it'd be a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range he ripped from the Terminator's cold inert metal hand.

Are you working with the producer or studio? If not, forget it.
Also, have you seen Clint Eastwood on stage in talk shows or on the Republican political stage? I doubt that he is physically able to do the role. He's in his 80's and doesn't get around too well.
Theoretically or if you ARE an insider, drop the part about the most powerful gun and retain the rest of that sentence. Harry is a dinosaur and will probably still carry a .44 Magnum. But check with SFPD and see which guns they authorize for cops and retired cops. Does being retired or grandfathered allow him to carry that .44? Say so.
Why wouldn't a retired detective carry a smaller gun? Because Hollywood is unrealistic and you want the nostalgic audience association with that gun and his desire to conclusively kill a foe. Or, have some serial killer or robber active, causing Harry to wear a .44 in lieu of his usual retired carry gun.
Dirty Harry is known mainly to older people. Is that your intended audience? Is that financially viable? Maybe you need him in a cameo role, as an advisor to a younger hero? You need to involve younger moviegoers, many of them liberal and often of different ethnic backgrounds than those of us who admired Harry. Times change. But be careful: if your cast is too PC, many of Harry 's fans will boycott the film. I've been very bitter about the James Bond films since they changed CIA agent Felix Leiter from Fleming's "straw-haired Texan" to a black man.

That was the first gun that popped into my mind. Harry could probably hide it in his adult diapers.

May seem sacrilege, but a Ruger 480 might be in order.
OTOH, a 4" S&W 500 might just do it.

Fun, ain't it? Thanks for playing along.
How about
"You don't think we're just going to let you walk out of here, do you?"
"Who's 'we' sucker?"
"Smith and Wesson and my nurse and me"
or
"Go ahead, make my...what day is it?"

The only thing wrong with the original post, is that that wounded punk//Albert Popwell// passed away several years ago. Maybe they could replace him with Morgan Freeman? :-))

We gotta start right at the beginning. You have to change the name. It would have to be PC, I'm thinking....
Disheveled Harold.
Has a good PC ring to it, doncha think ?

80 year old retired Harry, may say something along the lines of, “well to tell you the truth, with all the excitement” I’m really glad I remembered to don my Depends .

Do you really think Inspector Callahan was ever capable of change, thank goodness.

Harry, having just told the short order cook to dial 911, reaches for his walker, hobbles out of the dinner, and struggles to lift his 6 pound 10.5 inch barreled S&W from the walker's seat pocket.
As the first two perps exit the bank, he brings the mighty canon to bear, and pulls the trigger ...BANG!! Since he was using the walker as a bench rest, both he and the walker are propelled backwards 5 feet, and Harry goes to the ground. Harrys took out the first perp (and three people still in the bank).
The racing car is spotted next, Harry resting comfortably on the ground brings the canon to bear again BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG!!!! The robbers car careens out of control, takes out a fire hydrant, and rolls over. Since Harry's rounds went through the perps car, the Chevy behind it took two hits, went out of control and takes out the china shop next to the bank.
Harry, approaches the last remaining perp,
"I gots to know,"
Harry goes into the bank, pushes out an empty chair and starts talking to it.

Modern Times:
Harry: If you reach any further for that scattergun, I will knock you silly with this ivory handled cane, you naughty person.
*** as the police take the robbery suspect in custody, Harry shuffles on to the senior citizen center on his walker with wheels

He'll still be known as "Dirty Harry," but now it's because of the condition of his Depends.
