You can never have enough guns?
I know that's what everyone says....... BUT..... I think I have reached that point! I have enough.

Reminds me of back when I usta do woodworking.
My wife asked me one day, "How many power tools do you need?"
My answer, "All of them."

Franklin, arjay is right. Most of us have been through what you are feeling, and came back good as new! Remember that when you're feeling down, there's nothing like a new gun to cheer you up!!! Also, remember my old rule: always buy, never sell (unless you find out you accidentally bought a gun with an internal lock, in which it is permissible to sell for a slight profit). Follow this simple rule and you will be good as new in no time. If your safe is full, remember that an extra safe is always a good investment as well. Hoping to see you up and around in no time!!!

This is the algorithm you need to follow:
1. Check safe
2. If there is a no gun you want skip to step 4, otherwise continue to step 3
3. Buy gun and return to step 1
4. You are lying to yourself, go to step 3

I'm in the midst of a long gun moratorium due to the fact I have literally no room in the safe for another one. When my son's three find their way to his house, I'll have more options.

Well I am going to an auction Saturday and I hope they have another one I NEED. I did buy another long gun today. And can't believe I did it. It is a Thompson Center Hawken 50 can Muzzleloader. Like I need another but I got it with powder balls cleaning stuff extra rods and It is a Flinter. The price was pretty good and I think I can sell it to make a bit cause I also got a Smith M-48 with it for too much money. Not to mention I went to a Porn..er pawn shop and the guy there offered me 4 shothell loaders for a 100 bucks. One was a nice Mec 600 2 were single stage Pacific/Hornady's and the 4th was a decent Pacific/Hornady 366. All 12 ga..Why do I buy this crapo?? I just went in to buy a RCBS 510 scale.. And to top it all off I had to go buy a NEW router. My old router a Lynksys G died. I got it at a yard sale 5 yrs ago for 5 bucks. I may have gotten my money's worth out of it..but money better spent on a S&W 28-2 I have my eye on. The M-48 was a 6 inch gun unfortunately. I like the 4 inch and shorter. If it keeps going like this I may have to buy a third safe....soon.

you guys amaze me. i now have three,3, count them three handguns.
i try to keep them neatly in their holsters, but there's always something i gotta do with them.
anyplace i sit or lay my head is a gun.
they are all over.
n, no, i have no fear of home invasion. i'm too far from the pavement to worry about that.
so, if i find a model 14, i'll be tripping over guns.
i can't clean around here without moving guns.
n, i just buy guns i absolutely need.

Susie, you need a shotgun and a thutty thutty by each door, a shotgun by the bed and at least one handgun in each room: just in case. lee

I may have enough.
I was an accumulator, not a pure collector.
I loved to hunt and shoot. I bought guns that fill that niche.
But how many pre 64's in '06, 270, 264 Mag, 257 or Model 12's in 12, 16 does one need?
I sold many of the extra Winchesters before I retired or shortly thereafter. I slimmed down to 3 1911's, some 4" 684, 4" 629, 4 or 5 22 pistols, and my safe is still full.
Found an old Ithaca 37 and slicked it up, found a M 37 bbl that had one inch cut off of it and bobbed it to 20" for dual purpose. Found a new Copy of the High Standard Riot and bought it, found a front half of a Model 1912 riot, NOS Sile walnut and slicked up my 1928 M-12 so it too can pull double duty. What do I need 3 riot guns for?
Did some trading and ended up with an FN 300 Win Mag.
Did I mention my safe is full?
If my son would get a safe I would give him the family stuff.
I never thought so, but perhaps, just perhaps for me I may have enough.
I've always said this, when I was young I could only afford a shotgun, a deer rifle, a 22 rifle, a 22 hand gun and one CF handgun and really enjoyed being outdoors with them. Many times it was just a shot gun and deer rifle with a Python or Colt Combat Commander or a 29-2. But just one CF pistol at a time. With those I did not have to decide which pistol or rifle or shotgun, I just grabbed it and went, life was pretty carefree. Heck I could take all of them to the truck in one trip.
I hunted with passion and often. Now I sit mulling over a full safe.
Life was much easier with 2 or 4 guns.
So I guess for me it is the old thread, if you had to, which guns would you keep?
Shinola, all of them for now.
Who is the OP on this one, see what you started?

You will know if/when you get to that point.
I may be about there now.
When you go digging through the safe for some item and find guns you forgot you had bought, you may be getting close.
Or, it may just be Alzheimers...

I don't need (or want ) another gun. I need to go shoot the ones I already own. The "Old Guys" have been to 6 gun shows over the last 18 months and came home empty-handed each time without another gun. We did buy some cheap primers and powder, but no guns.
Yup, we have enough guns.

I'm still looking to collect a couple more model 27s to finish out my little collection. I need to pick up a 6" barrel and an 8 3/8" barrel 27 so that I have at least 1 of each common barrel length. But first I need to get the money together to do this and with the oilfield so slow right now that is hard to do.

Funny.
Whenever I buy another gun I tell myself that's all I need. Done! And that feeling stays with me for a while until I buy another gun... then I again hopelessly tell myself that's all I need.

I finally realized that one can really have enough guns and have been selling them. I'm in my late 70's and no family member wants them. (No, I will NOT adopt anyone who reads this post!) I've sold about 200 so far but still many to go. I have a "Can't Sell" box in which I'm putting the really special ones. (Several, new in original boxes S&Ws.) Only about 10-12 handguns in it so far.

At 82 years old, I may have close to enough, however my grandchildren do not have nearly enough so I am buying them for them, yeh, thats the answer.

I go in spurts
there have been times when only classy side by sides where in my sights, them maybe nice revolvers in presentation boxes, onto two many to list
I passed a new years resolution in 2015 not to buy any more guns, that was broken before the end of February that year,
I blame it on my dad he said that if you bought a good gun and took care of it you would never loose any money on it
and I know that I have bought at least 20 since that new year resolution last year
I guess I am an addict when it comes to guns, my wife stated Sunday, while the family was on the range that when I die she will let the kids pick 1 each and she will auction the rest, I asked her does that mean they have to bring back all the other guns that they have of mine with them now, when my daughter spoke up and said mama I've got 5 of daddy's guns at my house now my sons just looked off into space

Hahaha....that's not funny. That exct phrase is costing me some serious coin! I have gone so far as not having anymore trades. Guns I bought but ended up not liking or change in taste. I was looking at a Sig 229 40s&w and 226 the other day. Why? I don't need them. Aside from range I wouldn't carry the 226 and I already have a 228 and 40 cal handguns so the 229 would just be redundant on both sides. But then u saw a SZ P01 compact and a there are also model 64 with holsters and speed loaders and Hipower. ....at this point I just walk out.
My safe is over filled and i refuse to buy a bigger safe

When you find you have enough you need a safe, you MUST but a safe that is 4 times larger than you think you will ever need. Eventually you will need another safe.

Franklin, I'm close to you on this. With the exception of my two Model 27-2" all my guns are High End carry guns, I.e. 95% or so condition. All are nice enough to show off with friends, but not so nice I'm not willing to carry or shoot them. And I have enough of them. So my problem is, Consider entering the world of buying one high 4 or 5 figure gun that would be a safe queen or be happy with what I have.
As I have the two safe queens, I really don't want anymore. So I'm

My Grandson came to me last year around his birthday (he has a sister, and they're my only grandkids) and says " You know grandpa I've been thinking. I don't have a rifle of my own." I knew his dad had bought him a Handi-Rifle from H-R last year, so I brought that up. "No," he says, "That's really dad's. I don't have one of my own." I reminded him I have a few guns. "What about that big grey box in the den. It's full of them. Did you forget it?" He says "Those are yours." I reminded him that once I was gone, he would have enough guns, knives and swords for a fair size rebellion. He says to me. "I would rather have my own and you still be here."
I got him a 10/22 for his birthday, and 5000 rounds of .22lr and a Life membership in the NRA for Christmas. His birthdays coming up, so I'm thinking BPS.
His sister could care less about guns.

Firearms are tools. As we all know, you should always use the right tool for the job. There are many different jobs firearms serve.
Awhile ago a few of my friends talking while we enjoyed cigars and whisky after a hunt came to the conclusion everyone needs at least 33 guns just to cover the basics. If you're as many are here, you're a journeyman of the art of firearms that number goes up exponentially.
Let me just cover the basic shotguns list.
A 12 gauge capable of shooting steel shot at waterfowl. This is lily a heavy gun with a long barrel. Of course you will need a short barreled house gun.
You don't want to carry that heavy long barreled gun in the field hunting turkeys. You need a 3 1/2 in chambered shorter barreled camo covered gun for turkey hunting with optics.
Then there is upland hunting. Pheasant in the early season means an opened choked 12 gauge. Late season requires a tighter choked gun.
To show you have style you need a 16 gauge because who wants to always carry that heavy 12 gauge when hunting pheasant.
You need a light 20 gauge wand for those days you hunt grouse. You better have a beater for those days your slipping and falling while hunting chukars.
Let's not forget doves. A 28 gauge or .410 is needed.
Then there is basic target games skeet, trap and sporting clays. Skeet is played with four gauge. Trap requires a very specialized shotgun. The guns that works for trap and skeet aren't the best tool for sporting clays.
Break downs do happen so one always needs a backup out in the field.
A similar list of basic needs can be made for handguns and rifles.
You can now see the list of guns needed, just to cover basic needs, is pretty darn long.
If you ever get to the point where you think your needs are met you just haven't considered all your possible needs.
For me buying a new gun isn't a case of the I wants...I've just found a new need that hasn't been covered.

Never fear, Dr. Redfield is here:
Buy two Smith and Wesson's and call me in the morning...

The other option that happened to me was divorce. That reduces your collection by 50%.

But I might be willing to adopt you.

I just remembered, There is a new quitting smoking blurb, keep on quitting.
How many of us have said, if I buy this rare and under priced gun and quit smoking for 3 months it will be paid for.
Yes sir, I for one have quite multiple times.

My gun collection will be satisfied, when mine's actually a bigger collection than Charlton Heston's collection. He had several hundred and most were flintlocks.

Don't forget how large that vault was..... You gonna have to give up smokes and alcohol for a long, long time.

Heh heh, my older brother calls me a 'tea-totaler' as I don't do either. The saddest part is, I don't even own one flintlock yet. But I guess the rest'll do.

FBI points out that violence rates have declined sharply as gun ownership has increased. Do your duty. Buy more guns and help decrease violence.

Ringo, I'm not into flintlocks, but everyone should own at least one. Trust me. You don't have to shoot it, but it'll look good over the mantelpiece. If you don't have a mantelpiece, having a flintlock is a good excuse to get one. Either way, you can't go wrong!!!

With retirement coming up (end of May) and the associated reduced income, it was determined that I had bought my last gun and will now focus on shooting them. I took out a Model 15-3, Model 24-3, and a Marlin 30-30 just today. The 51st Annual Colorado Gun Collector's Show starts tomorrow. There are 1500 tables of everything except beef jerky. What should I do?

Sure you're not. If I had a box of ammo for every time I've said that, there wouldn't be any ammo shortages in my future. But I have gone to really nice gun shows and not bought anything. One just never knows when a gun you didn't even think was on your radar will come along. I was at one nice little show, had not bought anything. Left. Had lunch, did some shopping, still an hour before the show wound down. Went back in. Guy walking around with a mint Colt Gold Cup, wrapped up in a greasy rag. Was asking $900. No box, but was from the early seventies ( I did a quick check on Proofhouse). Well it turns out that I was the first guy he had run into. Now I have a really nice gun that I didn't know I needed until I bought it. Love it.
I could tell you many similar stories. Sometimes the gun you need finds you.
Good luck at that show.
Best regards, Les

I am at a point that I am planning on selling off the guns I don't shoot or don't like, mainly it will be the fanatic plastic guns. I may be selling them all at some point, I don't have anyone to give them too or leave them too.
