We caved.....again!
Last week, Ruthie and I took our oldest cat (16 and spiralling) to the vet.
While there, he says "I'm glad you're here, let me show you something".
That morning, someone had left a trash bag on the doorstep. Inside were two starving 4 week old kittens (sisters). I never gave a single thought to the perpetrators of this callous act. Rather, I was struck by the providential timing. Here they were...Here we were.
They had us both at "meow". This makes 19 cats and dogs we have let adopt us. (13 have passed on)
I'm such a tower of pudding.
P.S. Logan named them "Pork" and "Beans".

Thats awesome! I have a 14 year old diabetic cat we adopted as a kitten and I every day I think it may be the day he crosses over the rainbow bridge. I am sure when he is gone we will be looking for another to adopt.

Rusty, there's a special place in heaven for folks like you.
Over the years, we've adopted quite a few cats and a dog. This may sound a little anthropomorphic, but I really believe they must realize that you've saved them because they sure as heck give you their unconditional love for the rest of their lives.

I've always thought that rescue animals "know." Some of the horrible things they've forgiven us humans can be unbelievable.
Having said that, cats will still give you a nasty stinkeye while they knock over your glass of milk. They just give zero effs!

I don't know how you do it from over 500 miles away, but you have this trick of making my monitor go out of focus.
I don't need to see the keys to type, though, so...Bravo!
And it isn't considered "caving", by the way.
Around here, we call it Doing The Right Thing.

Fishslayer, you have to remember that dogs and cats think differently.
For example, a dog thinks like this: "This person loves me. He provides me with food, water, shelter, and takes care of my every need. He must be a god."
Whereas a cat's reasoning goes something like this: "This person loves me. He provides me with food, water, shelter, and takes care of my every need. I must be a god."
No matter, we love 'em all.

Nice going, Rusty.
I'm a sucker for almost any dog, but now that we have a cat, I'm getting silly about cats, too. (Even though I am allergic to them).

Rusty:
That is so cool! They are cute, but I'd bet a handful! In a Good Way.
You were put there at that spot and at that moment for a reason. It was meant to be. Enjoy them for many many years to come!

Hopefully the new additions to your family will help with your loss when it happens. I learned a long time ago that if you are going to be a pet owner you will go through several. Doesn't make losing them any easier but it has given me perspective.
My experience has been that a dog will go roaming but will always come home. Cats seem to go where the best deal is and stay there.

Rescued kittens make my computer screen blurry. We don't normally get fog around here in the summer. Y'all have a special place waiting for you in Heaven right beside God.

Our last cat was a rescue. Wondered in as an injured kitten-tail had been stripped of fur and skin. Day one involved a trip to the vet and shots. For the next week, we dealt with little bones from the tail falling into the carpet, while the cat got healthy again. Then of course the tail amputation. Free cats cost a lot.

Fortunately, I'm tough as nails. We only have four neutered Tom cats and an alleged, spayed, female "Squirrel Dog". ("Soup Hound" is more like it). Although she did chase a squirrel once, for about twenty feet.
At the moment, that is. Funny thing is, they all get along, no "Cat and Dog" rivalry here.
Bless you. And the kittens too!!! They are beautiful!!!
Best Regards, Les

Good on you and Ruthie Rusty. Cat spelled backwards is "tac"...well clearly it works better with "dog", but you get my drift!

After Zachary and left poor little Natayo all alone. We gave him a week or so to mourn, decided that he needed a girlfriend and headed on out to the local shelter.
He ended up dating a coupla sisters.
That's Sandy on the left and Sara on the right.

Coyotes can't kill housecats. But if you let your cat wander around outside day and night in areas where there are coyotes and other predators, the odds are stacked against the cat living a long life.

Yep, those little cuties climbed to the very summit of Mount Mush.
You and Ruthie have tattoos on your foreheads that can only be read by cats and dogs. They say, "When can you move in?"
"Pork and Beans", eh? Logan must not have much experience with feline flatulence. Or much sense of smell.
I'm tickled for you. You needed something like this.

From the cats-eye view:
The Cat's Diary
Day 983 of My Captivity
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. *******s!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...

Where's the "love" button? I can't find it! Who could resist those cute kittens? I think one is part zebra though; usual markings. Congratulations on your adoptions. They are so sweet!
I am glad someone left them at the vet instead of dumping in a park, open space or garbage can. My friend rescued kittens the other day that someone threw in the ocean.

My oldest is 19. He was a feral kitten, the smartest of the litter apparently as he was the only one who didn't want to stay wild. He's getting a little creaky but keeps on plugging along. Bless you for taking in those babies.

Homeless kittens are hard to resist. This is one I photographed for the Arizona Humane Society. I think God made them so cute to make them easy to take home.
...and then they grow up to become cats.

Rusty, Rusty, Rusty...I don't know what a cockle is but I hear it is a part of the heart. In any event mine is all warm and fuzzy right now. You are truly a special person. They say you can tell a lot about people by the way they treat animals. This makes you and Ruthie pretty much tops.
I showed the pics to Miss Pam and got a big AWWWWE! She looked at them a long time.
And Pork and Beans seems to just sing and some how sounds just right.
Thanks for makin' our day!

I love "Tuxedo cats", two of our ferals are Tuxs and a good friend of ours has a house full of them. They are some cool kitties!

We have a tuxedo at the shop in our mix of feral cats. His name is Finn and he is the epitome of a playful cat, which the breed are known for. All the ferals have been fixed and are well cared for by us. Here is a video of Finn and his two siblings when they were kittens two years ago.
As a side note, their mom died when they were a couple weeks old. She got pregnant before we could trap her and I think was too young to have babies (under a year). She was John's favorite cat too. However, another cat that had never been pregnant and had just gotten spayed ended up taking over and nursing them. It is a rare phenomenon but can happen where a cat who has never been pregnant can end up producing milk to nurse another cat's kittens. I would call it one of life's little miracles too. :-)
