Thanks for the heads up. Wondering if the show was coming back on. Last season was not very realistic. Hopefully they'll get back on track

I gave up after the second season. Man, if I never hear that woman who plays his wife say " RAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!" again, it'll be too soon.
Plus, I know people are icky and gross (from work), but that whole Hank Azaria storyline - eeww.

We actually just started watching it a couple days back.
It's not bad and we do like it overall but there are some things about the show that are just maddening.
We'll give it through the end of this first season to evaluate.

I had never even heard of this series, but my son-in-law recommended it to me. I started with Season 1, Episode 1 and was hooked. I've watched all three seasons and I'm looking forward to Season 4. Thanks for the heads-up so I can check my DVR and make sure I record it.

True but, what does Ray Donovan do? You got to remember--that at least 90% OF MY TV VIEWING IS DVD--and then mostly Westerns.
Ps, didnt mean to use caps but, too lazy to go back and correct.

Per a Google search, "Ray Donovan is a "fixer" for Hollywood's elite. He is the go-to guy that the city's celebrities, athletes and business moguls call to make their problems disappear. It's a much more lucrative job than his previous work as a ruthless South Boston thug, vaulting him within reach of the truly wealthy and powerful. But no amount of money or the expensive things it can buy can completely mask Ray's past, a past that continues to haunt him with troubled brothers always calling and his father's recent release from 20 years spent in prison. Now a free man, Ray's father, Mickey, arrives in Los Angeles to get what he feels is rightfully his. Mickey's desire to reconnect and settle old scores with his family -- including Ray's wife and kids, who have never met the family's patriarch and are anxious to get to know him -- threatens to destroy everything Ray has built for himself.

He's a "fixer" for a couple of high power attorneys who represent the rich, famous and Hollywood types.
His "fixing" can entail anything from payoffs to strong arm.
Comes from a very dysfunctional Boston Irish family with ties to boxing and crime with a strong dollop of family tragedy and grief along the way.
Some strong acting performances but a few themes and the way they are carried out in the series can be offputting (to use not too strong a term).
Worth a look imho, unless you are put off by language and somewhat gratuitous violence and sex.

Its an excellent drama that holds one interest, just as Breaking Bad did and the Sopranos did. In "Ray Donovan", there are few if any "likable" characters, including Ray although you find you are always pulling for him to succeed at whatever nefarious plan he is involved in. The writing and acting are top rate and it makes much of regular network TV seem even more ****** than it is. I put it in the same category with the shows I mentioned above, as well as "Better Call Saul", "Homeland" and some others. Not at the superb level of "The Wire" (if you haven't watched this series, which lasted for five seasons, you are in for a real treat. It was just maybe the best series EVER to be on TV, cable or otherwise), but still well worth watching.
