Default What a Long Long weekend at the Gun Show

Did a 4 day gun show in Buffalo Bill's town this weekend. 4 days of it. There were so many touristas in that town I thunk I was in New Yawk City. And...with all them touristas people still didn't spend money like water again. But while it no longer seems to happen that I find a good deal with what people bring in... this weekend WAS a bit different. I did find a nice 4 screw M-19 with diamond targets...and didn't buy it. Yet! I broke myself buying Colt's and Brownings. Had a fellow bring me a really nice(80%) Colt New Service in 45 Colt caliber. It is marked as RCMP issued. Then he handed me a Colt Officers Model Match 38 Sp in at least 90%. Uncased a really nice M-1A made by Polytech. and last and surely not least brung out a Browning Inglis Highpower w/matching nums cept the mag with the tangent sight all packed in a nice wooden stock Holster with leather holster and straps. Only one I ever saw...I hadda buy them all. I did pass on a really nice condition Russian SKS with blade bayonet dated with cartouches...All milled gun..Not real keen on them but it was pretty and the bottom line was 300. Otherwise the show was just OK. Winchester Collector's show next weekend in Cody. Friday for me then Bozeman show on Saturday....and I am pretty broke. ..Gun shows are my real failing...

I always hit the Winchester Collectors show back when I lived in Worland. Found some really fine guns there over the years, spent more than I could afford. Haven't been to it for a long time but it was (and I suppose still is) one of the best shows in the state.

Cody in the summertime -- yikes. Not my idea of fun. Glad you found a few bits and bobs you liked.

Yeah.. I had never been in Cody on the 4th.. I think I will try to avoid it from now on. I had a fellow from (as he said it) western New York state try to buy a Ruger Vaquero I had. No dice of course.. But he did buy 10 M primers and 3 lbs of powder to take back east with him. He hadn't seen any Varget or Unique in over a year. The show(small 50 tables or so) was held in the local VFW... One of the members wanted to trade a Freedom Arms Single Action 32 H&R with an extra 32-20 cylinder for my 29-2 pimp gun. Really nice revolver...but not my cuppa Joe and he wanted too much to boot. Those FA's are really expensive.

Last time we were by Freedom we stopped at the factory (show room). Disappointed they don't give tours the machine side. Great folks, they showed us a really nice selection of shooters, but, yeah, the $$$$. One of these days I might spring for a 454 Casull® or .500 Wyoming Express, but can't grasp why I'd spend that money on a small caliber.

Well I was thinking.. I could have the 32 H&R re-chambered to 327 Federal since I have 20 boxes of that and only 2 boxes of 32 H&R. But you're right..Lot of money for a small caliber.. If it was even 357 or so it would make more sense

I went to the show at the VFW, too. Saw some old friends (will probably see them at Winchester show).

Yes, summer time in Cody is usually crowded but the crowd thins way down when the winter arrives.............

I'll post some pics of the handguns tomorrow. Not a great pitcher taker though. Forgot to mention Had a gal bring me a Double action Army Navy type Colt revolver(M-1895??) that I did not buy..It had the original nickel finish at about 65-70% and was still fairly tight. It was in 41 Long Colt with a full box ot Western lubaloy ammo for it. Ammo was in a white Western box. I had a friend there who does Winchester letter research at the Cody museum and he bought it for 425 which I thought was great

Oh yes..almost the only time I go to Cody is when tourist season is over. My physician is there though but I go early and leave for home. I will be around the Winchester show on Friday as I have a gun to show Rock Island Auction and James Julia

Default A couple of Pics

Not really good close-ups but they will show condition I guess In the pic with two the left one is the Officers Model Match the right one of course is the New Service.. That is a LARGE handgun. The second pic shows the HP holster/stock and leather carrying harness. As stated I never have seen all the items together. There is a cartouche on the wooden Holster Stock that is SA Ltd 45 the marking on the backstrap of the New Service is RNWMP 1584 The upright on the right of the N looks as though it has a cross at the top making it a T

Nice Colt OMM. Any chance that it is factory Single Action only?

Wait. Where are the usual suspects? The ones that complain about all the old junk and high prices? The ones that suggests the gunshow prices are higher than they can get in the LGS?

My story from a couple of weeks ago was that I'm a happy camper and I only found one gun on my short list. I don't care about the plastic guns. It only takes one walk in with a great gun to make all the shows for the rest of the year worthwhile. But many of us, the OP here included, have little interest in current production guns.

Well to answer ordnanceguy no it is double action ...but pretty darn smooth on both.

This last weekend was long and tiring but as rburg said..one walkin like this one made my year. None of the 4 guns I got from this fellow were on any short list..I don't really have one...but sometimes ya just have to do it. And no not into plastic. I like steel and walnut..Blue steel at that. And very seldom I don't dicker with people. Asked the fellow to give me a price and I thought all of 5 seconds and said OK. Did I need 'em. No...but I wanted them. I will prob keep the M-1A even if it is a Polytech and I'll orobably sell the Armalite AR 10 that is in the safe. Like to keep the whole bunch but the Colts will probably have to go..gotta get something back in the ol accounts. Even momma thinks the Hi Power is extraordinary.. I never feel that way about her shoes!!LOL

Met the fellow I bought the other guns from at the Winchester show in Cody on Friday... bought that SKS from him. Gun is exec condition... while about that I got a Winchester 100 semi auto(post 64)284 that truly looks unfired. Then off to the Bozeman show in Montana today... I bought NO guns there...but I was tempted by a fairly nice M-58 but it was overpriced
