If anything? whenever walking to the kitchen for anything more than water---do 50 pushups off the wall of kitchen counter everytime you make that move. It CAN be a good deterrent? in the least, you still get beneficial exercise.

I'm closer to 1.5 gallons a day, because I am not heat tolerant and sweat like a hairy Scot.
Here in Houston when you sweat it does not evaporate. A liter per hour of fluids is about right if you are not working in the sun. If you have to be in the sun, take brakes often in the shade and drink water until you pee. I was out walking this morning pre-dawn and had pumped in enough fluids beforehand I had to make two bathroom breaks.

I just went to CVS to buy a little book to log my food intake a page per day. I found a small spiral bound ruled book perfectly suited for the purpose. It's called a Fat Book!

When doing weights, don't forget leg day! I find leg day to be the most exhausting, but it probably does me the most good. In the gym, it seems like most guys don't do legs for some reason.

Due to one of my medical issues, the only thing I count is carbohydrates.
Exercising really drops my blood sugar, so counting carbs, modifying insulin intake and counting carbs, etc. is a real balancing act to stay out of trouble. Changing weight also affects balancing act also, so changes have to be done gradual to keep the balance!
So how many carbs do you think is in that book, per page and total?
Fiber would be a benefit also ! 😎
Spiral wire would help as a floss, real he man like! 😏

We're back.
Had a great day!
First I beat myself silly at the Y. The old story, "just one more set," yeah right.
Had a shower, put on my goin' to the Fair clothes and off we went.
The fair was just 8 miles away.
The sun was shining, the temps were in the 90's and I was loving every minute of it. I kept an eye on my wife and made sure she had plenty of fluids.
The fair was fantastic. Lotsa fun rides, games of chance and food vendors.
The local fire department was there cruising the fairgrounds.
I was like a good old fashioned country fair.
Actually, it was a good old fashioned country fair.
I love living out here.
However, they did require that I wore a shirt for the rides. No biggie, it was a lightweight t back tank top so I was comfortable.
Later in the day my Italian wife told me that she was starting to feel a bit nauseous. I thought it might have been from the heat so I got her an ice cold Gatoraide. However, we came to the conclusion that it was probably the greasy white garlic pizza she got from the Italian food vendor. She would have been fine but we went on some rides that that shook us up a bit.
When we got home, she got as far as the bedroom, hit the mattress and was out like a light for about an hour.
She just had a bowl of noodles, so I thinking she's doing all right.
I'm still making her hydrate.

I'm actually good at 180. I'm just greedy, I want to get back to the weight I was at before my motor nerve condition.
50 pounds down, 10 to go.
It'll be a kinda victory.
At 175 pounds, I'm gonna grill burgers in our back yard while drinking beers and smoking a cigar. Then I gonna eat a coupla burgers on whole wheat buns and drink more beer.

Personally, I've always like the mid-summer heat.
Now with my motor nerve condition, heat helps. When it's really hot and humid out, I feel almost supercharged. Everything seems to work better. I've actually jogged up the mountains.

They seem to concentrate on the "showy" muscles.
I've seen fellows at the gym with great upper bodies and spindly legs.

Now I'm a little bit older. The climbing gear's in storage and I can't skate any more but I can still ride Frankenbike and hike the mountains.

Frankenbike, I built him from a bare frame with individually picked components. The wheels were custom made to my specs.

Keeping track of my intake is something I intend to add, guess I better get a fat book like kwselke. Drinking sweetened drinks is someplace I know I can do some good.

Sunny and 87 degrees right now. Supposed to get up into the 90's.
Looking forward to a nice long hike today.
Then after my wife gets home, it's off to the Y for spin class.

The only reason I no longer do that is because of hitting "plateaus." I dont want anything like that discouraging me in any way. Speaking of soundalike words-I weigh only once every three months. Helps to keep from getting discouraged.

It's a room with fans, a bunch of stationary bikes, a loud sound system and a partially insane instructor. She yells instructions while you're on the stationary bike. Things like, "faster," "more resistance," "jog it out," stuff like that.
It's high intensity cardio for about half an hour or so.

I used to do those classes in the winter. I found it helped when I got my bike out in the spring. Yeah, those instructors work you hard. Bring water. Lots of water. If I didn't drink enough during the class, my legs would cramp up that evening.

Maintaining a good attitude is paramount. I've never used the logging of food before, but know others who were helped by doing it.

I've been at the 200 pound plateau for a year now, but at the gym today the weight machine was set with 2.5 times the weight I was working with this time last year.

I weighed this morning for the first time in a month or so. My digital scale read 201.8 pounds. While walking this morning I decided to change my attitude. I'm no longer a 285 pound guy trying to finally get down to 185 to 190, I'm a 202 pound guy trying to get down to 190. The first 10 to 15 pounds is the easiest... Right?

Walked 11.7 miles and spent 15 minutes at gym on upper body today. I've consumed about 1,245 calories, dinner will be under 350. Never give up trying to get in better shape.

Thumbs up FITNESS

Snubby, keep it up. I am down to the last hole on my belt. Been a long year, and an extended trip sidelined me for a bit along with another medical problem but I am back online now. Weight is down as well as BFI, and I am working me way up to 10M steps a day. Not an easy task but it is working. Down 23 more pounds since last May. Slow but sure. Feet and legs are slowly responding to the current workout of 3 miles a day. May not sound like much to some but for someone who could hardly make it to the mail box and back I am not complaining.

My wife usta have to help me walk across parking lots.
After taking about a year or so relearning to walk using the muscles that still worked, I'm now hiking all over the area mountains.
Took the longest time before I could convince her that I'd be okay hiking on my own.

Our regular spin instructor's on vacation this week.
Today we had a guest instructor.
I couldn't understand a thing she said. Sounded like the Martian language from "Mars Attacks."

Well her top was kinda low cut, maybe that's just all I heard.

Been checking out how may calories I take in a day and I don't know how you all get by on such small amounts but I am going to be checking my amounts in and try to determine how many I am burning at work. Have to start somewhere.

I find that sitting around watching TV leads to a lot of craving for munchies. I feel less inclined to eat if I am busy. Also, the battle is easier to fight if you never bring the junk food into the house. Hard to eat junk food if it isn't there.

For snacking, sometimes I'll make a meatloaf. It also makes better sandwiches than the processed lunch meat.

The other thing to watch about the processed meats is salt (sodium) content. The salt levels are so high in some that even a modest amount of the meat will give you most of a day's salt intake. If you have kidney problems, high BP, any tendency to swelling in the extremities - that's a real bad situation. Likewise most fast food. We don't often buy processed meats - my wife buys bulk chicken breasts and cooks them low and slow with nothing added. We use that for sandwiches, cut into chunks on salads, etc.

Even sweating like I do (a decent exercise bike ride means at least two changes of my T shirt, so three shirts, before going to the gym), sodium is really bad stuff. I sometimes have a little difficulty balancing my intake before cardio. I need enough to keep me going, because the energy is used differently in some manner from what I would experience when running, but not so much my BG goes up and my calves try to cramp.

Eggs, toast and jam, skim milk, light yogurt, grapefruit, boneless skinless chicken breast, romaine lettuce, Italian dressing, 8 saltines, one flour tortilla, 1 tbs. fat free sour cream, 2 tbs. salsa verde, cajun spices, and two sour dill spears... 1610 calories. Besides the skim milk beverages are water and ice tea with no cal sweetener.

I have a couple of books that I got from being part of a study at my Dr. that are heart healthy, diabetes control type diets and will be checking them out for ideas on what I can eat. My main problem will be lunch at the shop which is hard to do so I end up eating too much fast food. Do you all take vitamins or supplements?

Turmeric, vitamin D, and calcium on a regular basis.

I don't take any vitamins or supplements. I do, however, drink plenty of water and eat LOTS of vegetables, usually steamed. I have never been a junk food eater, avoid fast food, and am busy from 3:30 am until 8:00 pm during the week. On weekends, my very active teenaged son keeps me busy. We shoot Trap, bike ride, and go to the movies together. As he's a well conditioned athlete (cross country runner and Lacrosse player), he keeps me motivated to take long walks, regular bike rides, etc., which I enjoy. My FitBit tracker is invaluable in helping me make sound decisions about what I consume each day. All this helps me stay fit.

When I was working I was on BP medications and had to have a low sodium diet. I packed my own lunch and a snack 95% of the time. I was still grossly overweight but my sodium and potassium levels were good to go with the diuretic I was on.

I take Occuvite, which is supposed to reduce the risk of age related macular degeneration, which I have a family history of. I'm thinking about switching to a simple multivitamin when my supply of Occuvite runs out.

If a doctor tells you that you need a certain supplement, take it. I try to eat a varied diet in order to meet my nutritional needs. I love to eat out, but only do it a couple of times a month, usually it's with other people. The rest of the time I prepare my own meals.

I take a handful of stuff but it's more for my neuropathy. I found a combination of vasodilators and light stimulants along with a little pill my doctor prescribed.
Since there's no prescribed daily treatment for my condition, I worked with my doctor finding a combination of meds and supplements that help by increasing peripheral blood flow. That helps the motor nerves fire.
Depending on my daily activities and when I take my meds, I start gimping up again around suppertime. That's okay, 'cause that's around my cushy recliner time.

Like Snubbyfan I have some neurological issues. I take several medications for this, and these plus several other prescribed medications, tend to cause deficiencies in some nutrients the body requires. This can vary over time, plus and minus, so I get regularly monitored for deficiencies, hence the supplements I take varies. The turmeric was recommended by a hemotology oncology doctor as it helps minimize inflammatory issues, which it seems is being found to be a source of a lot of problems. He and a doctor I have seen for allergy type issues in the past, both take it. As per the advertising disclaimers, your results may vary, check with a medical professional or your local witch doctor! 😋

Just remembered, since I have arthritis in both of my knees, I also take a glucosamine supplement.

It's high intensity cardio for about half an hour or so.
Uh huh, more like its a ballerina class, but the above is just code for it.

But seriously, I tried a few classes like that when I first started, man it wore me out.

Walked 11.7 miles and spent 15 minutes at gym on upper body today. I've consumed about 1,245 calories, dinner will be under 350. Never give up trying to get in better shape.
Good attitude. I changed mine when I met and started dating Sabrina. Beautiful women have strange and wonderous effects on the opposite sex. I was 285, now about 235-give or take an ounce. The only food item I quit eating, was tater chips.

Ditto to the above and the gimpy ones post. Because of my neurological probs, I not only HAVE to take a multi-vitamin, but supplemented with vitamin B-12, and the Doc just added another ive got to pick up today.

I run three times a week. A 5K 4 times a year. I run to keep the weight off, and stay active. It's harder to do than when I was younger. But I have to do it. My son is fully dependent on his mom and I to do every thing for him. He has a muscle wasting disease and about the only thing he can do any longer is feed himself with the help of 2 hands.

If I don't stay healthy I can't take care of him.

And as I always tell my friends when we are out hunting. If we see a bear, I don't have to outrun it, I just have to outrun them.

That's the idea. I end up soaked with sweat and wobbly legged. But I feel it really helps.

Matt, sorry to hear about your sons condition. Sounds like you're a good Dad. This tired old world needs more caring people.

We're back from our bike ride. Carb. window was hanging wide open.
That's been taken care of.
Pork chops, rice, and brussels sprouts for supper.
Well that and my wife and I shared a bottle of Moscato wine.
She is an Italian after all. Gotta have an occasional bottle of vino.

I should have the bike ride video ready to post tomorrow.

Well, I'm approaching the gimpy time of day.
That's okay though, it's cushy recliner time anyway.
On Monday, I cut my hike short. There was an approaching storm. I'm glad I did, it was a good one.
I don't mind hiking in the rain but that storm was a bit much.

Tomorrow, I intend to do the same hike over except include that part I had to skip on Monday.
After my wife gets home, it's off to the Y for an hour or so of lifting.

Now that I'm logging all of my food, I'll say it makes you think before eating. I've also found that my Google Fit app is running a tally of my caloric expenditure. Google Fit syncs with the GPS based Map My Walk app. I start and stop the GPS tracking which overrides the pedometer based data from Fit for that time period. Otherwise Fit's pedometer is tracking my movements. Having a reasonable guess as to your caloric consumption and a reasonable guess to burn is very good information. I see how it is easy to fall in love with fitness trackers.

Got in 12.4 miles of walking yesterday. My tally of calories consumed was 1,625. The Google Fit app guessed my caloric burn was about 3,250. It was a good day.

Time for my morning walk. Have a great day.

I don't log my food. I just try to watch what I eat while trying to eat a balanced diet.
I do prefer to eat something with protein and carbohydrates as soon as I can after a rigorous workout.
I started doing that back when I usta ride my bicycle a lot. Seemed to help.

Today, I'm gonna go on a nice long hike in the mountains. On Monday my hike was cut short by a storm rolling in. Today my only limiting factor's me.
Well that and I need to get home in time to go with my wife to the Y for a good workout. Today's upper body.

I log my food because the feedback I get from the app I use gives me excellent information and actually reaffirms my commitment. Sounds strange - but it works for me. I don't argue with results.

chicken is very healthy n that's what i mostly eat.
thing is, after a while, you start thinking about chasing down cattle in the pasture n eating them on the hoof.
i pretend i want chicken but i can feel beef deprivation.

It does, but I have lots of trouble doing some of those exercises because of MD that's in my upper arms. I couldnt dream of doping what's in Ariks photo because of it. However, though very painful for me, ive added muscle mass to that area and one of my older brothers thinks I can defeat MD. Id like to keep positive on that but, ive never heard of anyone beating that prob. Some of the Yoga type stuff just causes more pain than I can bear in my upper arms. Lower arms--no problem.
