Watermelon is one of the things I use also! Nothing better than ice cold melon after a hot day.

Looks like it'll be chicken soup and lotsa rest for me for the next few days.
My wife finally got me to admit that I have a cold.

won't stop you from lazing in the sun...
it's nice you live where the sun is nice. up north i always loved playing in the sun.
here, at 4100' with no moisture in the air it feels like death.

Good deal. Let your body rest and do it's thing fighting off that virus. The old school method of working through it just prolongs the misery.

I like your thinking.
Today's supposed to be mid 80's and pleasant.

Yup, my mean ol' wife's forcing me to sit and rest in my big comfy chair in the living room.
She's a home health care aid and she's very good at her job.

For you, it has become a lifestyle. There is no question that you are enjoying your various workouts as well as your food and drink. Now and then there may be a set back, but as long as you stay on track and have a long term outlook you can overcome whatever the setback is.

I'm sure hoping I'm feelin' good enough to go to the Y tomorrow.
My sinuses seem to be clearing up.
This sittin' 'round the house stuff's starting to drive me wonky.

I don't enjoy it when it floods us but I also like a good rainy period . Soothes my soul to hear and watch the rain coming down. This time of the year rain is about all that breaks the heat so maybe that's part of it.

Ahh, had a great workout at the Y today.
We went to spin class and found out there was a substitute instructor. We had her before and weren't too fond of the way she screeched at us.
That's okay, the elliptical machines were open so we did those instead.
Then it was off to the weight machines.
Those 3 days of rest seemed to have helped 'cause I felt strong and so did my wife.
Then it was off to the warm pool and sauna.
After we left, we ran some errands while we were in town.

It's been rainy and cool out here. Supposed to be cool and rainy all weekend, in fact they have the flood warnings up.
Monday it'll be back to the Y and Tuesday it looks like the warm sunny weather's supposed to come back.

Cycling update
July is coming to a close--one ride left, but as of today, I've logged my highest monthly total so far--at 1306 mi. (1275 mi. previously), and passed last year's total (4865 mi.) at 4918 mi. Was logging 50mi.+ for a few days, but the local unlimited hydro race cut out part of my route through the park and put me back to the low 40s since Thursday. If I can get an early start tomorrow, I may try to complete the full meal deal. Looks like 6000+ for the year is a probability. It's warm here, lows in the 60s and 70s overnight, and by the time I'm done around 10ish, mid to high 80s. Triple digit highs peaking at 107F Wednesday are predicted through the coming week--but--thank God--with much lower humidity than lots of you guys are dealing with--what a killer--you have my sympathy. Remember--hydrate or die. Keep up the good work all.

You must go through some tires, chain rings and chains with that kinda mileage on a bicycle.

Went for a nice hike today.
Just short of 5 miles.
Temps varied from 81 to 93 depending on where we were on the mountain.
When we got home, I grilled a coupla bison steaks. Yummy lean protein.
Tomorrow it's off to the Y for a good workout.
The weather's supposed to be nice until Friday with lotsa sun and temps in the mid to upper 80's

Still shopping, seems like whenever I find a grill with the features I want, it turns out to be a flimsy piece of (expletive deleted).
In the meantime, my old grill keeps chugging along. It ain't pretty or fancy but it does the job.
In fact I was thinking of refinishing it.

Good to hear. Probably should post on your grill thread but I'm chowing on chicken wings at the moment.
Reading a "Health & Fitness" thread. Classic.
I like the hinged lid and as long as the bottom (of the grill) doesn't sag a refinish would work.
I've seen BBQ paint, probably the same stuff as exhaust header paint.
Good grillin' to you man.

We went to the Y today, spin and lifting.
Ya know ya got a good workout when, after you're finished, you need both hands to lift your water bottle.
Anyway, the warm pool was closed so we sat in the steam room a while then came home and jumped in our basement Jacuzzi.
For supper it was salmon and asparagus.

Picked up a rattle can of high temp grill paint on the way home.
Now we just gotta get 'round to it.

Dang! That's some serious mileage there! I thought I was doing good with around 2000/year!
I passed the 11,000 commuting miles mark last week and I started in 2011!

Snubbyfan, congrats on the progress!
I sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago, the doc days it could take 6-8 weeks to heal. Leg workouts and bike riding have been out, so I switched to swimming laps in the pool. I had forgotten how exhausting swimming is!
Last week I started working the bike back into the schedule. A few times I did a short bike ride early, then a swim later. After 2 weeks off the bike it almost feels like I am starting over again.
I may be over doing it, I've felt kind of sick to my stomachs and no energy the last couple days.
The work isn't translating into weight loss though. I am apparently not strict enough with the diet. I used to eat a lot of chicken. I'm less interested after reading the article about how the chicken farms have to wash them in chlorine because they are living in their own filth and their skin rots off.

That pretty much sums it up.
Basically, I try matching my activity level with my caloric intake.
While losing weight, I kept to a caloric deficit while making sure I ate well balanced meals.
I eat lotsa chicken, pork, fish and bison and lotsa green veggies.
We had bison meatloaf today and I've got a coupla chicken breasts marinading in the fridge that I'm gonna throw on the grill tomorrow.
That reminds me, I also need to pick a grillin' cigar.
Good luck with your ankle, I know how much an injury like that sucks.

We just got back from an 18.76 mile bike ride on the C&O Canal Towpath.
I really like the fact that they built a connector trail right here to town and we can just start our bike ride from our back yard.
We stopped on the way back and had a little snack at a campground along the towpath.
Now it's time to light a cigar and the grill.
Gonna drink some beer (okay it's Miller Lite and not "real" beer) grill some chicken and smoke a cigar.
Beautiful warm sunny day today.

I started my day with a 5.9 mile walk. Toss in a couple of errands and I've walked a total of 8.5 miles today. That makes it four weeks (28 straight days) since I skipped a daily formal workout. Over those 28 days I walked a total of 240 miles. Coincidentally that comes to 8.5 miles per day. We've had a bit of rain move in, and the predictions for tomorrow are not looking good for a long walk. My joints and toes could use a day off. I have not had a beer since July 4th. I think I'll take Snubby's cue and have a couple of Miller Lite beers. As he points out, it's not real beer, so it cannot hurt.

My wife had a coupla chicken breasts sittin' in a garlic, herb and wine marinade for a few days in the fridge.
I grilled those along with a coupla more chicken breasts with my wife's home mixed BBQ sauce.
I closed the top vent on my grill 'bout half way to slow down the cook time and it took me 3 Miller Lites and a Punch Pita Maduro cigar in toro to cook 'em all.
They all turned out yummy and juicy.
We had them with some green beans in a garlic butter sauce.
Tomorrow we're off to the Y for the usual spin, lifting, warm pool and sauna. On our way home we're gonna pick up some pork to try with the same marinade on the grill Saturday.

Full day at the Y yesterday.
Today, it's supposed to be mostly sunny and warm. We're planning on a nice long hike.
When we get home, I've got some pork rib meat sitting in the 'fridge in a garlic herb white wine marinade that I'm gonna throw on the grill.
Only thing is the cigar I'm planning on smoking.
It's a Victor Sinclair Bohemian Red Cuban Corojo that's nearly 8" long with a 50 ring gauge and I can find no information on it online.
I can find the same cigar but the largest is only 6" long.
This can get interesting.

Wonderful hike today. I duct taped my little toes and strapped on my new boots.
My boots aren't broken in yet and still rub my toes a bit. Not such a big deal on a shorter hike but we intended to go a little further.
The temperatures went from 86 to 101 degrees depending on where we were on the mountain.
When we got home, I cleaned the grill, filled the chimney starter, lit a cigar and a mound of birch bark and set my chimney starter on the burning mound of bark.
Just then ominous black clouds started rolling in and I could hear the thunder.
Oh well, if it rains, it rains.
Started sprinkling a little but it seems the bulk of the storm just missed us.
I didn't cook the marinaded pork. We decided to let that sit for another day.
Instead we grill some pork rib meat and a coupla chicken breasts with my wife's spicy barbecue sauce mix.
They came out tender and juicy.
My wife fixed some garlic butter broccoli.
Tomorrow's gonna be a semi rest day. We're planning on cutting the grass and grilling that marinaded pork rib meat.

You made me laugh then I realized. It's 8" long and tan colored with visible veins....
Anyway, I didn't time it but probably 'bout 2 hours.

So I decided to challenge myself on the mountain bike Tuesday. Our local trail system is a nice somewhat challenging 8 mile loop. On a typical day, it takes me between 1:10 and 1:15 to ride it. I wanted to see how fast I could ride it if I really pushed. Since I was gonna challenge myself, I thought it best to soft pedal the short loop that's about 3 miles for a warmup, stretch out a bit, then attack. When I was done, I came in at 1:05. I went out a bit quick and definitely slowed down that last 2 miles. I kept telling my self to "be smooth and keep the pedals spinning". I wear a heart rate monitor and just focused on keeping the heart rate around 150BPMs and ignore the pain in my legs lol After that loop, I rested again, then soft pedaled the short loop again to help my legs recover. In all I was there over 2 hours and my heart rate monitor said I burned a little over 2000 calories. Wednesday is my "leg day" at the gym and it was a struggle to get through that, that's for sure. My body was ready for some rest. I did make sure to drink several protein shakes so my body had the nutrients it needed to recover and and avoid going catabolic.

I haven't checked this thread for a while, nice to see everyone still plugging away.
I have been plugging away as well, though everything is still a huge struggle. I don't like working out, though it is getting better. Vegetables are ok, with enough cheese... Everyday is a struggle to eat right, somedays are good and some not so good. I just try to have the good days outnumber the bad days.
I am down 67 lbs since December 20 of last year. I've been working out three times a week with my chiropractor, and trying to eat healthy, with his guidance and support.
I am going to keep going on the weight loss, I could stand to lose another 50lbs or so....
I posted in a different thread about my new dog. He is adamant that we walk everyday, so that will help get me moving when I don't want to. My old dog wasn't too fond of walking, and that didn't bother me at all.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Today was mostly cloudy with temps in the upper 70's. We strapped on our boots and went for a nice hike in the mountains, 7.38 miles.
When we got home I fired up the grill, a My Father La Reloba Mexico Selection cigar and opened a beer.
We had some pork rib meat marinading in a white wine, garlic and herb marinade for the last 3 days.
I grilled it with some hickory chunks added to the coals and it came out tender, juicy and yummy.
My wife fixed some garlic butter brussels sprouts to go with 'em.
Tomorrow it's off to the Y for the usual. Spin, lift, warm pool and sauna.
For supper we're planning on having some mahi mahi with asparagus.

Walking's good exercise.
67 pounds since last December's pretty good too. With 50 to go you're more than half way there.
I guess the big difference is I like working out. Sometimes my wife has to basically drag me away from the workout room at the Y.
Since we've been doing more hiking and biking we've been going just twice a week. When the cooler weather gets here we'll start going three time weekly again.

Been using outside yard work as a part of my exercise by trying to reduce my time every week. It seems to be improving my walk through angina in both severity and recovery time. It isn't noticeable to most of the time but when I work hard enough I have to take breaks every so often.

Well, I went and did it. I doubled up my workouts at the Y today.
I know I'll probably pay for it tomorrow but right now I feel pretty darn good.
My wife was talking to some people and left me unsupervised.
Today's a cool rainy day, tomorrow's supposed to be partly sunny with temps in the mid 70's.
We're planning on checking out a West Virginia wildlife management area to see if there's any hiking trails and eating at a cat cafe we heard about.

Elliptical machines'll give ya a good workout.
It's a good way to get some exercise when the weather's not cooperating.

We played tourist today.
There's the Widmeyer wildlife management area not too far from home near Berkeley Springs West Virginia. We found only one trail there and it only went about 3/8 of a mile in. But on our way back, we found a heavy metal square roast pan with a drip rack off the side of the trail. Looked like it had been there a while.
It just happens to be the exact right size and shape to replace the rusted out ash pan in my old grill.
From there we went on out to Berkeley Springs to check out a place called, "Give Purrs a Chance."
It's a place the adopts out cats.
You can go there and for a $7 donation you can spend the day playing with cats. They have a gift shop and I was eyeballin' a cat themed ash tray that'd work great for cigars.
It's in a refurbished Victorian aged house. It was actually pretty cool.
Around the corner was a smoke shop. They have a cigar I've been wanting to try but at $22.75 each, it seemed kinda pricey.
After that we went to the "Earth Dog Cafe." We've eaten there before and knew they had some really good barbecue.
I got a pulled pork sandwich on a kaiser roll and my wife was getting frustrated at her half rack of ribs. When she'd pick up one of the ribs by the bone, the meat'd fall off.
It was all tender and juicy. The sauce wasn't overly spicy but very flavorful.
On our way out I peeked over at their offset smoker and the temp was between 200 and 225 degrees.
On our way home we stopped at Coolfont Resort. The place looked run down and it was all roped off.
Looked like they're working on renovating one of the buildings though.
A little further down the road we saw a place called "Frog Valley Artisans"
Looked like a place bunches of hippies'd hang out at and do artsy craftsy stuff.
As we headed into town, I felt like having a soft serve ice cream cone so we started at an ice cream shop right here in town called "Ellies".
After I got my ice cream we walked over to a new building that's gone up. It's gonna be a restaurant/bar called "Big and Tiny's" they're planning on opening in September. It'll be nice to have a nice place to eat right here in town.
Finally we got home.
Overall a fun day playing tourist on a beautiful warm sunny day.
I don't think the temps topped 80 degrees.
Yeah, our diets took a hit today but what's the point of all this exercising and dieting if you can't go out and just enjoy yourself occasionally?
For the next coupla days we plan on lotsa hiking then off to the Y on Friday.
