I consider getting up at 9am for spin class early morning.

Mild here also. 38° high for yesterday. This morning it was 26°. Two days or so ago, low was below zero, then something blew through, warmed up, rain, then these past two days of warmth. Interesting winter, kind of like it! ☺
But will be changing again I'm sure!

Default Wed. 01/11/17 😕

Well got the waterer fixed (I hope)!!!!
Temperatures got up to 42°, light rain showers on and off. Put the new parts in but while tightening a connection on the 1" water feed, it slipped loose. Geyser in the face, drenched until the wife could throw the well breaker! Direct connection to the well before the ball valve shutoff. Everything back together now. Had thrown the main breaker for the barn panel so the heating element in the waterer was dead! The barn lights would not come back on and the panel was dead! At the house main had to throw every breaker to find out which one was tripped but not indicating. The panel schedule was incorrect! Everything good now!
Now to the health part. Neurologist started me on a 5 day regimen of prednisone today. Took the first three this morning! So no aches or pains this afternoon despite the cramped backward positions I was in during the waterer saga! Amazing drug for inflammation despite look g term use side affects. Even though it was after 01/01, no copay because it was generic!
Also forgot I had the fence charger back on when I reached across the fence to adjust the water level. Win some, lose some, and hope for a draw ! Dark now so back to the recliner, then dinner!

Wife and I had to head on out to the local (112 mile round trip) DMV today to renew drivers licenses. Wait time was just around two and a half hours.
Wasn't too bad, talked with some people, day dreamed and planned stuff.
After we were done, we stopped at an Olive Garden we saw on our way there.
I'm still stuffed.
Tomorrow's a Y day and I'm lookin' forward to it.
Feel like I can use a good workout.
Right now though, like Walkinghorse, "back to the recliner."

Picked up a fitbit today with my Academy gift card Christmas present. Charged it up, downloaded the app, and put it on. Looking forward to figuring it out . . .

My day was less exciting. I replaced a bathroom faucet, made three bottles of homemade amaretto, a pot of garlic rice and thawed some salmon fillets, some chicken thighs and a lamb chop for dinners this week. Power company has a planned outage for later tonight. Fortunately, it's about 70 right now, low tonight of 58.

Workout tomorrow.

I started this morning with a pleasant 5.7 mile walk. It was 67 degrees with a light SE breeze and a beautiful full moon showing behind broken cloud over. It's shorts and t-shirt weather this week in Houston, and a wonderful day for a bit of exercise.

Supposed to get up to 64 degrees today?
T shirt weather in the middle of January in the mountains of West Virginia?
Wacky weather.

Anyway, today's a Y day and I'm looking forward to it.

Up to 18° here after a low of 9° last night.
Sun is out and a breeze, but Bailee and I are going for a walk!

BTW, the waterer stayed uncovered and unfrozen last night! The horses are using it, so I am glad I did it in the 40° warmth yesterday! The glow of getting lucky on the project is helping keep me warm, though the wife fired up the woodstove earlier. She is on a house cleaning kick so time to be outside!

Good workout at the Y today. Spin, lift, warm pool, steam room.
Still at 165 but didn't really expect any weight loss after yesterday's feast.
Nice warm midwinter day with a nice warm breeze.
I just have a feeling that winter's gonna make up for it.

74 degrees here today, intermittent rain all week into next week. Hit the gym this morning early, did yoga for my full 90 minute session.

Cleaned the house, did laundry, did monthly cleaning on 3 handguns. Salmon fillet and rice for dinner, now watching a cheesy sci-fi movie recorded from TCM last night, The Green Slime. I remember seeing this at the drive-in, as a 12 year old kid, I thought it was awesome then.

Richard Jaeckel, Robert Horton and an Italian redhead beauty Luciana Paluzzi. Watching her makes up for the cheesy special effects.

My Google Fit app says I've walked 8.75 miles today. What it does not know is that I took out a girl 12 years my junior for pizza and beer at lunch. We went to the same pizza joint I used to take dates to when I was in high school and the pizza is still first class. Then my companion brought me back to her place for birthday cake. Hey it's my 61st birthday and just cake. No dinner for me tonight, but I might have another beer or two. I have a big event 80th birthday party to attend on Sunday and will get back to a hard core plan next week.

Got a weather alert from my phone app a little while ago. Late Sat. Night through Monday, FREEZING RAIN!! ICE STORM POTENTIAL!!! Yuck, double yuck!!
Wife's retirement party starts at 6PM Sat. night. Guess we will have to leave early as necessary. All wheel/4 WD set of Norwegian fabric chains in the back. No weight, easy to mount, and a nearby trucking firm recommends them highly. Uses them on their trucks around the country! We shall see, party is a Indian (eastern other country, not native buffet). The last ones I attended were great food!!!

I like me some hot Indian vindaloo curry.
Be careful dealing with the freezing rain.

Here ya go. I used Svedka vodka, it's a good moderately priced brand. Dark brown sugar gives a deeper color but a little muddy flavor in my opinion because of the extra molasses. This batch I used half cup dark brown and half cup of turbinado (double the recipe).

A bottle of vodka 1.75 L and double the recipe made 2 1/2 bottles of amaretto, 750 ML each.

Today I got below three spins of the dial in at least twenty-five years. Down seventy-five pounds; at least another fifty to go!

You know if this thread continues the way it is going we are going to be a mere figment of our imagination!

The eye operations are complete. I am cleared for limited exercise and lifting 25 lbs or less.
I had cataract surgery on both eyes. I have gone from nearsighted to farsighted and I am using reading glasses with my monitors.
It is weird and I have lost my super power near vision.
Back to regular exercise and emphasis on dieting, I have gained weight.

My wife and I earned our breakfast this morning.
I did half an hour on the stationary bike and she did her time on the treadmill.
So far today, 400 calories. That's just a quarter of my daily calorie max.

Like I said before. Wacky weather!
Yesterday, it was t shirt and shorts weather.
Tonight and through tomorrow, it's supposed to be freezing temps and a wintry mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain.
We were planning on a workout at the Y, instead it's gonna be a home workout day.
The hardest part of doing a home workout's prying my behind offa my recliner.

It was an interesting experience. During the eye ops we also had the house inside and out, professionally painted and the popcorn ceiling treatment removed. My Lady Wife did not like the plastic foam balls landing in her soup, etc. I spent most of a week in a local motel, avoiding the smell et. al. We also redecorated, I'm now hanging pictures, mirrors etc. I need to hit the gym and the wife is working again, get your Taxes done early folks, if you owe you can still wait to April 15 to pay, or work out a payment plan with the IRS.
I will need trifocals again for 28" focus on sights and monitors, reading panes and astigmatism correction.
I am also noticing some line distortion in the left eye, sigh...2 to 6 weeks to fully heal, my next appointment is on the 30th.
Geoff

Just looks wet out there. We still ain't going anywhere.
They're calling for sleet and freezing rain all day today.
Got all my meds choked down. After 'bout half an hour, it's time to start our home workout.

Default One Point and One Question?

Ice arrival here seems to be getting put back! Now late Sunday evening through Monday morning. NWS says conditions could change! Freezing rain to rain and/or rain changing to freezing rain! Right now bright overcast, 22°, no wind, and dry!

Eating question? Maybe we have discussed this before? What is the best time of day to eat your largest meal for optimum weight loss? Does it matter as long as you are eating reasonable and working more calories than your intake?

I've learned that weight lose is not linear in proportion to calorie expenditure and intake. In other words I may run a calorie deficit for days without losing a pound then I'll lose four pounds in a day and two pounds the next day. This leads me to believe that the time of the day when you eat big has more bearing on you keeping your total caloric consumption down than with anything else. I prefer a light dinner when in diet mode, no really big meals, and lots of low calorie nutritious snacks during the day. The answer in my mind is, whatever works for you.

I tend to eat my evening meal as my largest intake of the day because I will wake during the night hungry and not want to go back to sleep if I don't. Probably not a good plan but the older I get the lighter I sleep it seems. I would be nocturnal if left to my own decisions. I tend to sleep two or three hours max most of the time and then I wake up but after a short time I can go back to sleep again if I can keep my brain from getting going.

Here's my theory:
On a workout day I have a small breakfast, usually just a 140 calorie granola bar.
My theory is that I'll burn that bar quickly then my body'd forced to get fuel for energy elsewhere. That elsewhere'd be stored fat. Whether it's a Y day or a home workout day.

After the workout, for supper it's lean protein and green vegetables. I figure that'd help to rebuild muscle. Usually by 5pm. My wife and I usually share a light beer.

At 6:30pm ish, a 90 calorie high fiber brownie with a little whipped cream for dessert.

8pm, 6 low fat wheat thins with a little hummus or some home made bean dip.

9pm, low fat yogurt with 1/8 cup high protein granola.

Non workout days:
We'll have more for breakfast. I'll usually have a coupla scrambled sriracha eggs and a whole wheat english muffin with sweet cream.

Whatever activity we have planned for the day.

A light lean protein and green vegetable supper some time between 4 and 5pm.

Then desserts and snacks as usual.

I'm in the caloric deficit without losing a pound part right now.
My weight went from 167 to 165 and it's been stuck there for a few days.
I think it's time to change up my workouts. Gonna switch to a little less weight, more reps and less time between sets and workouts. My shoulders and elbows have been getting sore lately.
Also, that may just bump that one pound off and make me officially no longer overweight.

That why I have small snacks spaced out over the evening, I hate going to bed hungry.

It's that daily total that counts when it is done day after day. Meal time for me gives me a bit of control over calorie totals.

It's the total input/output over long periods that make a difference.

Time of day of the calorie input? What is the time of the calorie output? If you expect to see a real change overnight or couple of days from now... let's talk real estate investments.

Default Hummus + Last Night + Weather Here

Snubby brought it up, YEAH !!!
Really developing an affinity for it!
Last I got was a chipolte flavor hummus, very nice with a little zing!
Party last night, fantastic Indian food!!!
Can't tell you the names, but very flavorful!
Clean non-lingering zing in most of the food! Sesame flavored chips with spicy yogurt, great samosas, fantastic spicy *tomato soup? with flavorful balls of something vegetarian! A salsa type thing, spicy/flavorful with *tofu? chunks and a twing of sweetness from some fruit. Interesting dessert of fried balls of milk powder in a clear sweet sauce and the usual American desserts of caramel pecan cheese cake, chocolate mousse layer cake, chocolate candies of various types. Multiple non-standard beers, wines, and a few things that may have been Indian drinks of some type. Unfortunately due to medication restrictions, longish rural drive in the dark through several deer corridors, I could not partake of any if these.
Stayed with the Indian dishes, and as my wife retired (brief speech she had to give) so may be hard to find good Indian food again!
Weather? Ice ,rain, sleet, some snow, *forecast? now to start late Sunday night, early morning, through noon Monday??? From looking at radar tracking, my supposition is maybe rain and some sleet, though with frozen ground enough slick roads to make driving interesting, though may stay south? As long as the ice doesn't get thicker than the gravel on the driveway and lane to the house walking should be OK to take the dog out, if not recliner and wood stove will work!! Temperatures should stay around 28° to 32° so not cold but prime slippery conditions!
SE Iowa out!

Been up in East Texas woods looking at some property next door to where my son recently built a house on 5 acres. 10 acres for sale and I know the kids want me to buy it but it will be a lot of work! Stuff growing so thick you can't even crawl through it,a mini Big Thicket! Bull dozer work for sure on clearing most of it. Looking to retire and get out farther from the city that has overtaken where I have been the last 41 years. Just too many of us crammed into the Houston area anymore.

Getting ready to head on out to the Y.
Today, I'm planning on changing up my workouts. Less weight, more reps and less rest between sets.
We'll see how it goes.

Can't help you there. The family who was host has been vegetarian all their lives. Indian, so my understanding being vegetarian is the majority over there?
Interesting to taste how flavorful vegetarian can be!
We have vegetarian meals at home, last night was 5 cheese pizza, during the Packer game. Sometimes eggplant parmesan, or grilled vegetables, spinach frittata stuffed bell peppers, vegetable frittata/quiche/omelets, etc. But meat is still on our menu, especially grilled over an open fire pit! Got a new George Foreman cooker for Christmas, that heats up 30% faster, and handles meat for 4. The old one was the small one and getting a little tired after 10 years!
Variety is the spice of life!
BTW, as noted in Midwest ice storm post, rain and ice finally hit here during the early morning hours. Mostly rain, but turning to ice when it hits then frozen ground! No need to go anywhere today, plenty of wood for the wood stove, so only possible concern is ice weighted branches on power lines, or a vehicle sliding into and taking out a power pole!

Good day at the Y today.
New workout felt good. In fact I still feel pretty good.
Less shoulder and elbow pain but still feel like I got a good workout.

Checked my weight on their scale. Says I hit 164, making me now officially no longer overweight.
Next step, 160.

Sounds good Snubby, physically and for your mental health!!
Was at the doctor today. While in the waiting room, I picked up some literature and perused through.
Question posed: Does having alcohol hurt my recovery after a work out? I (not me) usually have dinner and a beer after my workout.
Response: Alcohol messes with muscle recovery. One beer doesn't have enough alcohol to significantly inhibit your progress. If worried have another drink before your post workout brew. Research shows that drinking a whey protein shake after the workout and another 4 hours later can blunt the bad affects of alcohol.
Whey protein shake?????

I can unequivocally say... No way! It does not work that whey for me! Who paid for that research? The Curds & Whey Association of America? I bet they use baby white mice as test subjects instead of old goats like me. I'm sure the brewers association has better research data.
