Today we worked on the kitchen floor. the old linoleum's crusting away and we're pulling it up and replacing it with stick down tiles.
Got under the 'fridge and microwave cart done so far.

We finally made it out to the Y today.
For now my efforts are going to be directed to getting my leg strength back.
We walked lotsa laps in the warm pool.
Then it was off to the Super Walmart for grocery shopping.
I was in charge of pushing the shopping cart.
By the time we were done, I was done.
My legs are tired and I'm hoping they'll heal and get stronger.

I have a degenerative peripheral motor nerve condition that's gradually taking away lower motor control.
If I keep exercising, I can keep ahead of it.
My bout with sciatica and the complications from the meds resulted in a bit of a set back.
About 6 years ago, I almost ended up in a wheelchair.
I came back from that, I can battle my way back from this.

Yup, heat helps the motor nerves fire.
Sunlight and triple digits and I feel....

First time back to spin class since my sciatica today. Didn't push too hard just basically sat on the stationary bike and pedaled.

since i take narcotics daily just to get around, i applaud your pushing yourself.
i can reduce pain by laying around but i refuse to.
i think giving up n not fighting means death.

I agree with you Susie , if you quit trying you will surely shorten whatever amount of time you have. I am lucky,I don't have any pain most of the time . all who fight through pain have my respect and admiration .

I was never blessed with the gift of balance or dance, but I admire the fitness and gracefulness of those that can do it.

That sure looks like fun.

Went to the Y today.
Pushed a little harder in spin class and started lifting.
Then we walked around in circles for a while in the warm pool.

At the Y today, I was able to do just 10 minutes on the elliptical. Did a little upper body stuff then walking in the warm pool.
Still, mainly working on getting leg strength back.

wish i could do that. my knee went n i'm on crutches.
turns out, i can still play in my garden.
i put a ground cover down n laid down.
with my hammer i whacked out holes in the ground n planted some periwinkles.
i refuse to stop playing in the dirt just cause i can't walk.

I realized last week that I had not checked my blood pressure in a month or so. I hooked up the gizmo and was pleased with the results, 107/59 is a far cry from the numbers of a couple of years ago. Not too many years back I was carrying 90 lbs. more body weight and had BP numbers on the order of 190/115. Changing my lifestyle has extended my life. Eat right, exercise, take care of your health issues and life can be good. And, I had a bit of sausage on wheat bread with a Lone Star beer for dinner too.

That is good sausage, but great sausage is close by you at Krolczyk Meat Mkt. & Exxon in Hempstead, Business 209 and FM 359. I like their pork & beef as well as the hot, with the sausages named for peppers... eat at your own risk. Bellville Meat Mkt. has excellent products too. Wait... I need to stop before I make a top ten list of Texas sausage makers that I know and can rate.

One of my wife's wonderful concoctions: rigatoni, shrimp, chicken, andouille sausage - Yumm!!!

A good reason to walk 70 or more miles every week!

Back from the urologist. It was interesting.
They did a scan of my bladder and said it was extremely full. Apparently what I consider as a bit of discomfort is something the doctor would consider very painful.
My prostate's small. So that's not the cause of my problem.
I have another appointment next monday.
They're gonna put me under and put a tiny camera up in there to see if they can find what's blocking me up.

Went for a bit of a hike today since the sciatica.
1.38 miles in 38.04 minutes.
It's a beginning and it is in the mountains.
Next time maybe we'll try for 2 miles.
My legs felt kinda wobbly on the uphills.
I just need to make sure that I don't overdo it.

I agree with susie. Time or distance is what you should aim for right now. Time and distance leads to pushing yourself. You should be looking to heel and build stamina not to set records.

Good advice.
It's distance I'm working on. The amount of time it takes isn't all that important.
I'm looking to heal and get my stamina back.
My GPS watch just has both distance and elapsed time.
Along with lotsa other cool features.

Tomorrow it's off to the Y. I've been showing upper body improvement there.
Same thing though, gotta take my time and not push myself too hard.

Final check on my eyes tomorrow unless there is a problem. Can see very well distance. Will probably have glasses for reading or fine work. Been getting buy with drugstore readers but since my eyes are different real glasses should be even better. Staying on track with everything else but sure seem to have more loose skin than I would have thought. I have a lot of outside physical labor coming up this summer so I should get a lot more exercise in!

Hoping the final check'll be the final check.
I know what ya mean about the loose skin.
My belly's gettin' a bit baggy.

Yesterday and the Y felt pretty good.
Starting to feel like I'm getting my energy back during spin class and feeling stronger on the workout machines.
Got some sore muscles today, actually feels kinda good.

Keep inflammation (pain) down with salmon, fish oil, walnuts, cayenne pepper, tumeric, green tea, oregano, onion, paprika & garlic have been proven to help. Do a google search on their benefits. Best wishes.

I'm old fashioned, so when I'm in pain instead of eating all that I take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Two at a time, usually.

I used to take ibuprofen until I read about the side effects:

Most certainly if you experience adverse side effects you should not use it. I do not use Naproxin sodium (Aleve) because it upsets my stomach. I have taken Ibuprofen since it went over the counter in the early 1980s. Once under doctor's orders I was required to take four Ibuprofen four times a day. That dosage of Ibuprofen caused serious belly aches. I know that I can take four a day without issue. If I feel the need for more than four a day I ease up on my exercise for a couple of days to allow my body to recover. Folks can have food allergies and experience side effects from what they eat the same as side effects from pharmaceuticals.

Apparently the problems I am now having are due to the strong nsaids my doctor prescribed for my sciatica.
My lower legs swelled up, I became constipated and I had trouble urinating.
My lower belly blew up and I looked pregnant.
The constipation's been taking care of with stool softeners and probiotics.
I shoulda listened to Susieqz and asked for narcotics.
The nsaids didn't really help with the pain and I'm still recovering from the side effects.
I have an appointment tomorrow morning with a urologist to see if there's anything that can be done to help void my bladder.

That is interesting. My experience with opiate based pain relievers has always been constipation. I have not taken them when prescribed because of it. Just goes to show we are all different. Some things work for one that may not work for another. You have to pay attention to your body and what it is telling you. There is no magic pill, food, or exercise. Snubby, the reason I know about high doses of NSAIDs and antibiotics as well, was from a two year battle with prostate issues in my 30s. Do not be afraid of a catheter if offered as a temporary relief.

if one takes narcotics, one should eat oatmeal n apples every day to avoid constipation.
or, metamucil.
both work better than softeners with no side effects.

Here's my vote for ibuprofen for muscle pain. If I take it as soon as I notice a kink and try to take it easy on the affected area I get relief and am soon back to normal with no side effects. As with any medicine use it as little as possible.

Fun times at the urologist.
They put me under (the anesthesiologist really liked my veins) and did a cytoscopy.
Basically they looked up in there with a tiny camera to check out my urethra and bladder.
Two issues were found.
Even though my prostrate isn't enlarged, it's still causing a constriction and there's a thickening in a section of my bladder.
Now I'm scheduled for an MRI next week.
The doctor's doing a biopsy on the thick section of my bladder.
Now I'm sitting here with a catheter, bleeding into a little bag strapped to my leg.
Catheter's scheduled to come out this Friday morning.

Hey Susie, I got my narcotics. Only intend to take one if I feel I need it.

Unintended side effect of light beer?
Prayers up for good results, hope it points back to the mix of meds in which case a bounce back is in order.
Meanwhile, doesn't sound like much fun for a few days.
Maybe lay off the awl and mallet for a bit? Stick to rubbing the Neatsfoot...

I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning, they're gonna remove the catheter.
We're gonna pack the car for a trip to the Y if I feel up to it afterwards.
Don't think I'll feel like spin class but I could do a light workout, laps in the warm pool and some sauna time.
My wife cooked some of her, oh so yummy, bison meatloaf today.

Some time this weekend, I think I'll be wantin' a hike in the mountains then some beer, a cigar and grillin' ribs in the back yard.

Thanks Vonn,
It's good to hear that your eyes are doing well.
On my last visit to the eye doc. they recommended either transition lenses or prescription sun glasses. Apparently I spend so much time outdoors on sunny days, I've got burn spots on my retinas.

I've never been catheterized before so this is all new to me.
Having it removed was an interesting experience.

We got to the urologist at 9:30 am and they had it yanked out in no time.
Afterwards we went to the local mall, (not local to us but local to the urologist) went for a walk and stopped at GNC to stock up on some of my anti-gimpy supplements.
Then it was off to the Y.
At first I didn't even consider putting on a pair of padded bike shorts but by the time we got to the Y I was feeling a bit less uncomfortable, put the shorts on and we went to spin class.
I took it easy, had a light workout then it was off to the warm pool and sauna.
Now I'm comfortably sittin' here on my cushy recliner.
Well, not quite as comfortable as I could be. The urologist said it'll get better in the next day or two.

Tomorrow, I'm planning on firing up the grill and a cigar.
Drinking beer, grillin' meat and smoking a cigar.

Sunday we're planning on a hike.
