Seems like the more noises I make in the morning means the better the workout was the day before....
Now where's my protein powder?

I survived my pre-test for the third degree Black Belt. The test will be on November 9th, 10th & 11th. Nice three dayer, wish me luck. 🥋

Right now I'm working on increasing my muscle mass by lifting heavier with less reps per set. My muscles require more protein to repair the damage done to it at the gym. Carbs and calories too.
8 ounces of protein powder with skim milk has 32 grams of protein, 200 calories and branched chain amino acids. All of which helps with muscle growth. Tastes like yummy chocolate milk too.

Best right after a good hard workout. It's easily digested and helps with protein synthesis in the muscle fibers.

Day one is about 3-5 hours of forms, day two is a test of your physical fitness which is a WORKOUT and day three is a nice mountain bike ride, however they change the route each time. Last was a 10 miler which was fairly flat. The next day we check into the hospital Health and Fitness Thread🤪

Sore muscles today.
Seems like the spin instructor's increased the difficulty with more sprints and less rests.
I like it.
My wife and I did supersets in the workout room. Chest press and pulldowns, overhead presses and rows then triceps and biceps. We did ab work by itself. I finished up after my last set with 3 or 4 sets of drop sets for each exercise.
According to the scale at the Y, I've gained 4 pounds but I'm also working out with weights that I was barely able to lift 'bout a month and a half ago.
Today's a rest day. Tomorrow, we're going to the Y just for spin class and some ab work.

I'm making it a point to pay attention to what my body tells me. If something starts feeling not right, I'm backing off 'til it feels better.
'Bout a coupla decades ago, I was an avid rock climber and seperated my right shoulder. Hurt like crazy but it popped back in and after a week or so the pain finally eased up enough to where I could lift my arm again. Never saw a doctor for it.
My shoulder's always the first thing that lets me know when I'm overdoing it a bit too much.

Lotsa fun at spin class today. Nearly every bike was in use. Once again I ended up with a sweat puddle under my bike.
Tomorrow, I have an appointment with my doctor for my annual old man check up. Back to the Y on Friday for spin class and a good hard workout.

Had my yearly gimpy old Injun check up today. Doctor says I'm very healthy and in great shape. He finds both my attitude and the way I work to stay mobile with a debilitating degenerative peripheral motor nerve condition inspiring. I outlined my diet, supplements and workout schedule to him and he approved all of it. "Keep doing what you're doing, " he says.

Good day at the Y yesterday.
Felt really good in spin class. the spin teacher made it extra brutal again.
Afterwards, in the workout room, I felt pretty good. No stronger than the time before but still pretty good.
My biggest problem now's keeping my calories up. Since I'm trying to build muscle, I need to feed my body more calories, carbs, proteins and fats.
Today, I had a big bowl of whole wheat spaghetti and turkey meatballs. Turkey meatballs have more protein than regular meatballs.
Today's a rest day although I did do half an hour on our home spin bike.

Today was a very good day at the Y.
In spin class, I went from fast spin to faster spin non-stop for nearly 45 minutes, I guess you could say that I'm cheating 'cause I do the same thing on my home spin bike on the non-Y days.
In the workout room, my wife and I both felt strong. My weight's up to 160 pounds and according to my wife, it's all muscle.
Tomorrow'll probably be an off day. We might do the home treadmill, home spin bike thing.

Hey guys, finally got my suspension back and got a good ride in over the weekend. Wow, I had ignored it too long. Not only was the fluid worn out, I had some broken parts that needed replaced. My guy took care of me and the bike felt great over the weekend. We went to a private spot just a bit southwest of Charleston and the trails were epic! The soil down there offers great traction. Eroded sandstone is so much more fun to ride on than the clay we have just a few hours away. Next (and final) race of the year is in a week and half. I'm stoked. Also, the new job is going well, but the 10 hour days where I'm on my feet for most of the day is keeping me away from the gym more than I should be taking lol

That's the thing. Get both the bike and the body in shape then go out and kick some butt.

Nearly a month into the "Stronglifts 5x5" program, and a calorie surplus diet. Hopefully I can gain some mass over the next few months before my yearly "clean and lean" phase. My biggest problem is I like to run a lot, so toning that down is usually a struggle for me.

That's pretty much where I'm at right now. The hard thing for me is trying to keep to a caloric surplus.
It's been a bit too chilly outside to go out and play so that helps.
I'm looking forward to January when I go into a caloric deficit so I won't have to eat so much.

I've come to terms with the fact that I'm going to have to take in some not so healthy calories in order to be in a surplus, otherwise it's just cost prohibitive for me, I can't afford fish and chicken breast every meal, so I've certainly put on a little bit of unwanted pounds, but fortunately I'm pretty good at fat burning when the time comes.

At the Y today, spin class was a lot of fun. The teacher played an older mix but it was still energetic and fun. I'm not sure what it is about pedalling a stationary bike quickly to energetic music and getting soaked with sweat but I really do enjoy it.
Afterwards my wife and I had a good workout. I like to switch up the exercises occasionally to stress the muscles in different ways.
So far, I'm 7 pounds up to 162 pounds. I just hope it's lean mass and judging from how I felt while lifting, at least some may be.
My goal's 165 pounds as long as I can still see my abs. So far I can still see 'em but the veins aren't as clear. At the same time though, the veins in my arms seem to be standing out more.
We'll see where this goes. My plan is to start burning off fat in January. This is the first time I've actually tried gaining weight. Seems kinda strange after spending years trying to get weight off.

Today's kinda of a reverse cheat day. I've been eating lotsa carbs and proteins lately and keeping myself to a caloric surplus to keep to my goal of building more lean mass.
Today, I'm taking a break.
Not only am I taking a day off from exercise but I'm also not eating any more than I feel like. I'll probably go into a caloric deficit but I haven't been counting.

Brutalized myself at the Y today.
Started with a fun and energetic spin class.
Then in the workout room, I decided to change up my workouts again. Instead of 6 to 8 slow and controlled reps to failure, I'm going for 8 to 12 reps to failure at a quicker cadence with minimal rest between sets. I'm still super setting. I've added flyes to my chest routine.
Anway, I ended up with a serious pump. 'Bout felt like my arms were gonna pop.
I'll have to make sure to keep my calories, proteins and carbs up to repair the damage I did today.

Sore muscles today. No surprising after the way I brutalized myself yesterday.
Started the day with a protein shake then steak, eggs and leftover bannock. Gotta make sure to get my calories, protein, fats and carbs to heal up. My wife's planning to make some bison meatloaf for supper.

when you say meatloaf i hope that includes taters n veggies.
i sure wouldn't need protein shakes.
if i needed extra protein i'd love just eating everything in sight.

how is bannock?
i found a recipe n it looks easy.
kinda like english muffins

For bannock my wife uses whole wheat flour, adds a bit more sugar and bakes it in a cast iron pan. We got our recipe from Native magazine and changed it a bit to fit our tastes. It is easy to make but she went through a few tries 'till she got it just right.
Yup, the bison meatloaf does include little taters and veggies.

I dug out my mountain bike on Sunday and managed to get in 8+ miles in. It was all on the road as I did some work on it and wanted to make sure that everything was working. I will have to get ready for my Black belt test as the third day includes a mountain bike ride. It will be about 10-12 miles and quite flat so it should not be a problem (I hope)

Deer season starts Saturday for gun hunters! Never tried venison meatloaf, have to see if I can find a recipe. It is lean meat so I am sure it will need something added to make it edible.

If it's not timed or a race, sounds like it'll just be a nice bike ride.
As long as the weather cooperates.

Had a pretty good day at the Y. As usual, spin class was a lot of fun. Lotsa energy. Felt pretty strong in the workout room. Lifted the same as last time. Seems to work that way. I'll lift the same for a week or two then get a bit stronger. I think it probably has to do with my diet. As long as I keep my calories, protein, carbs and fats up, I feel stronger. Lately though I've been slacking off a bit. I'm going to try to make sure to keep my calories and macros up this weekend and we'll see how things go on Monday.

Actually, I only have 1 leg that works properly. After I relearned to walk, it's taken and takes a lot of work for me to stay mobile. Fortunately, I enjoy exercise and I know how to eat healthy.

Same here. The motor nerves in my right leg don't work too well anymore.

Getting on a treadmill for a stress test this afternoon.
Does that count as exercise?

Sure, as long as you do it at least 5 times a week for at least half an hour and work up a good sweat...

We were 5 minutes late for spin class today. Wasn't 'cause we were late leaving the house.
Out here the main road to town's a twisty, windey, hilly 2 lane road and we make sure to leave the house in plenty of time to get there.
Today, on our way to the Y, there was a delay caused by, what looks like, somebody in a mini van going too fast for conditions (the roads were wet) and failing to make a sharp curve. They ran into the side of a ridge, bounced off, spun around and stopped with their back end against the opposite ridge. I don't know if anyone was hurt but there was an ambulance there. I do hope everone's okay.

Anyway, spin class was lotsa fun. Since we were there 'bout 5 minutes late (we're usually 15 to 20 minutes early), I didn't get a good warm up. Still we had a lot of fun and worked up a good sweat.
Felt strong in the workout room.
I kinda did a bit of an experiment. Thursday was our last workout and I hit it pretty hard. I decided to see what would happen if I over ate for the next three days. That included a McDonalds quarter pounder with cheese and a Pizza Hut deep dish medium pizza with sausage and onions. Plus good hearty breakfasts and home cooked chicken meals with rice and pasta. I ended up feeling uncomfortably full every day.
I did do 'bout 40 to 45 minutes each day on our home spin bike and worked abs.
Today, after feeling pretty darn good after both spin class and a good workout, I weighed myself. That's my usual weigh in time.
I'm 161 pounds, ended up losing a pound over the weekend. I'm guessing my workouts are working. I keep reading how muscle incinerates fat. I guess I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing and see where that goes.
I'm intending to start cutting fat in Janauary. We'll see.....

It will be a bit of a hard test. Friday will be forms, sparring and board and concrete brick breaking. We will star about 4:30pm and go until done which will be close to 10pm I hope. Saturday I have to be at the studio by 6:00am and we will go to our workout place to be tested on how good a shape we are in and we should be done by 3pm or so. That evening we go to one of the instructors home for the evening and then on Sunday will be the mtb ride and a dip in the ocean.
