I managed to get in a nice 16+ mile bicycle ride on Sunday. Tomorrow it will bemy Martial Arts class via zoom. it's not like being there in person, but is better than nothing.

Today was an "off" day. Gotta rest some time. We came down out of the mountains, headed to town and got some supplies.
We did stop at the local resort on our way out and got our vitamin D treatments.
My wife rested next to the outdoor pool and I floated on an air mattress in the pool for 'bout an hour.
Tomorrow, we're planning on a nice bike ride if the weather holds out.

Yesterday was a workout day and both of us felt pretty good. Dunno what it was but we both felt strong and got a pretty good workout. I had to keep reminding myself that I'm maintaining now and to not overdo it.
Today it's beautiful and sunny and we went for a hike at the resort. I figured might as well work on my tan while I got my cardio.
We went 5.2 miles and the temps hit 95 degrees.
After our hike, we showered and hung out at the outdoor pool for a little while.

We also like to take our bikes out for a nice ride.

But when the weather's not cooperating we have a home spin bike and an elliptical cross trainer to get some home cardio.

I'll ride the spin bike.

And my wife'll use the elliptical.

We go for 'bout an hour. Helps to keep us healthy and fit.

The place we go to get our workout has a Bowflex Revolution machine that we use for lat bar pull downs and standing tricep extensions. Unfortunately the machine is broken and we've had to find alternatives to work the same muscle groups. In all fairness though, it's not a commercial machine and is meant for a home gym. It was just put through more stress than it was designed for.
Still, even though the resistance part of the machine no longer works, it does have a dandy adjustable bench that we can use for overhead presses, seated bicep curls, incline presses and others. All with dumbells so it's still useful.
So with a little creativity and some past experience, we both got a pretty good workout. I'm just wondering if we'll have any sore muscles from doing alternatives to some of our regular exercises.

For today's hike I had planned on making another video to upload to my YouTube channel. I had the camera charged and ready to go.
However, the weather had different ideas.
When we started out, it was warm, sunny and humid. The kind of weather that just felt like it was gonna storm.
I left the camera in the truck.
We decided to keep going until it started lookin' like rain and ended up going just 3.65 in 1 hour and 38 minutes.
On our way home, the sun came out again but when I was in the shower, I could hear the thunder.
We'll see what tomorrow's like.

My wife and I did indoor cardio for an hour on our home equipment. I used our home spin bike.

My wife used our elliptical cross trainer.

It was storming outside and we were both soaked with sweat by the time we were done.

Here's an interesting thing.
On today's bike ride we met a fellow that watches videos on my YouTube Channel.
He called me, "that famous YouTube guy."
I've met viewers before and it always seems kinda weird.
Anyway, we talked about bikes for a while then went on our way.
I think I have some ideas for upcoming videos.
My wife and I ended up riding 15.9 miles.

My wife and I had a "fitness assessment" at the new gym today. We both came out good and healthy.
I found out that my body fat's in the "very lean" category. That's groovy, I feel great.
Now I'm thinking of where to go now. At first I was thinking of just maintaining but they have so much excellent equipment there that I'm starting to think of doing a bit of bulking.
The exercise equipment's so nice, clean and well maintained that I just want to keep working out.
For now, I'm gonna keep my protein up and increase my carbs and calories a bit and see how my body responds.

Good day for a hike today. Kinda crowded at the trail head but we found a mud puddle to park the truck in. The mud wasn't too deep and we were wearing our boots.
We ended up going 5.17 miles in 'bout 2 hours.
Would've been a bit quicker but there were lots of people on the trails and some needed directions.
The temps on the ridge got up to a sunny 93 degrees.

Woke up sore today. I kinda overdid it at the gym yesterday. Adding extra weights and sets. I'm gonna havta make sure to get my protein, carbs and calories for the next coupla days.
Spin class is only once a week and this was our third spin class here and I feel like I'm getting back into spin shape.
Spin class goes for an hour and the spin instructor's around our age. She plays a music mix consisting mostly of 80's music. Some pop and some hard rock.
I didn't do legs yesterday, I'm saving them for a hike today.

Beautiful day for a hike. It was a sunny and the temps got up to 89 degrees.
Honestly though, I could really tell that I pushed it in spin class yesterday while hiking the uphills.
Still my wife and I ended up hiking the local mountain ridge trail for 6.19 miles in 2 hours and 28 minutes.
When we got home I fired up the grill, a Rocky Patel R4 Maduro Robusto cigar and opened a cold beer.
I grilled a coupla chicken breasts in hickory smoke and they came out yummy and juicy. My wife prepared some broccoli in a garlic butter sauce.
They're calling for rain tomorrow. That's fine, we could use a rest day before our next workout day on Friday and I have a lawn mower in need of fixin' out in the garage.

Felt kinda lazy yesterday. We did do some home cardio and I did manage to get myself all the way out to the garage to make sure I had everything I needed to fix our lawn mower.
I just told myself that we were resting up for today's workout.
Anyway, it started raining on the way to the gym but by the time we got there the sun was shining.
We both got a pretty good workout and soaked in the warm therapy pool afterwards.
Tomorrow I've got to get that mower fixed. With all this rain our lawn's gonna need cutting.

Good day for a hike today.
We didn't push it too much, only 'bout four and a half miles.
The temps were in the mid 80's for the most part but did get up to 94 degrees in the warmest, sunniest part.
We're planning on another hike tomorrow and a trip to the gym for lifting and spin class on Tuesday.

Got up to 104 wonderful sunny degrees on today's hike. We kept it kinda short at just 4.83 miles.
Gotta save something for tomorrow's trip to the gym. We're gonna be lifting and going to spin class.
For supper we had fish and asparagus with home baked whole wheat bannock bread to load up on carbs for tomorrow.

I found an online body fat calculator. It uses your weight, height and body measurements. It came out that I had 9.8% body fat.
I was thinking of seeing if I could hit single digit body fat by the end of summer.
9.8 percent's close enough for me.

When we joined our new gym, they did a fitness assessment to give us a starting point. Part of the assessment was to measure our body composition.
After a month my wife has made me feel like a proud Papa. They rechecked her body composition today. Her body fat's down 2 pounds and she's gained 2 pounds of muscle.
She's been working hard on her nutrition and exercise routine.
It's encouraging to see actual verifiable results.

I always worked out before I got old but the last 10 years or so I've gotten lazy...and soft. This thread has inspired me to get up out of my recliner and back on the bike and the weights.

I'm feeling a lot better now. Whadda y'all think?

The temps got up to only 84 degrees.

Interesting day at the gym today. They were having problems with water pressure and the showers were closed.
We had planned to lift, go to the warm pool for a little while, get a shower to wash off the chlorine, go to spin class then take another shower to wash off the sweat from spin.
We skipped the pool and instead, got some groceries and gassed up the car.
We got back in plenty of time for spin.
In spin class the instructor took us up a long hill climb with increasing resistance then played a fast song for a fast spin.
The song she played for the fast spin was "Crazy Train."
I told my wife, "I'm gone, see ya on the other side."
Yeah, I ended up leaving a puddle of sweat under my spin bike.
We're planning on a nice hike tomorrow.

A coupla years ago my sister sent me a link to a pair of boots she thought I'd like.
She was right.
After a coupla years and lotsa miles though, they're starting to come apart at the seams. I ordered a new pair and tried them for the first time on today's hike and I can tell that they're gonna need a few breaking in hikes.
Today we went 5.05 miles in about 2 hours. It was 84 beautiful sunny degrees. Perfect for a nice hike.

I'm a 6'-1" Norwegian that has gone from a divorce low of 156# (Lots of coke) to as high as 240#. I'm very comfortably at 200# but currently lugging around 220#

Our gyms are still closed due to the virus.

Thanks, just doing what I can to stay healthy.
I've been doing it for years and now I actually look forward to the next trip to the gym for a good workout.

I'm 57 years old, 5' 8" and of American Indian descent.
Having the gyms closed down was a big bummer. Fortunately we have a home spin bike and elliptical cross trainer.
When the gyms closed, we got some push up bars, a coupla dumbells, and rubber exercise bands to get some home workouts done. We also restructured our diets.
I actually ended up losing 'bout 5 pounds down to 145.
Now that we're back to the gym, I've lost another 5 or so and my body fat's been measured at just under 10%.

Well, you all may be surprised but that isn't really me in that pic. I am 76 years old and 5'5". I was skinny as a been pole until I turned 40. Folks always trying to get me to eat more candy, bread, anything to put some weight on me.
.I had to run around in the shower to get wet.
.If I turned sideways and stick out my tongue I looked like a zipper.

I left home and hearth on my 18th birthday for boot camp in San Diego California. I weighed 115 lbs.

I never felt comfortable in my own skin. My clothes hung on me like I was a skeleton. My metabolism was fast and I was always high energy and burning the calories all day every day.

Right now I'm at 165 lbs. I do have a bit of a belly. My waist size was 30" for years and years. Now its a snug 36". Although my profile has suffered some I've never been more comfortable in my life. It just feels so good to be this "substantial". Side benefits are: I no longer have to run around in the shower to get wet and nobody is calling me zipper boy.

Nobody offers me icecream and bread too often any more but that's ok, I can fend for myself.

Physical condition precludes a lot of physical exercise but I plan on starting a few cardio things: stretches and some floor exercises like sit ups and push ups and leg lifts etc.

Even if I never get around to it I feel good enough. The reason for what ever pains and discomforts I'm having is related to age and not weight. My status quo is at a very manageable place. I have beat cancer (so far) and I'm just grateful to be in as good a shape as I am. These days it's not about how it looks but how it feels.

I doubt that I will be inspring anyone, but I too had to change my life style.
Going into old age ain't fun. Right now I am 5'11" 200 lbs. and many ailments, arthritis, Afib, needing knee repacements and probably one day, if I live long enough, hip replacements. Things you do when young will catch up with you.
Seven years ago after several earlier operations, I had a back operation. Soon gained many many pounds due to inactivity of not feeling well.
I went on a diet when I started to out grow size 42 pants. Through dieting I lost 40 pounds rather slowly in 4 years. I held 255 lbs for almost 2 years.
Last August 30 I fell backwards down my basement steps, and broke my left shoulder..
The day after labor day 2019 I had my shoulder operated on. I told my wife, when grocery shopping do not buy too much junk food because I am upping my diet, to vegetables and fruit mainly. Any meat for me is chicken or turkey. Yes I do cheat every so often.
It took me from September to May to loose 55 lbs.
I have upped my walking by miles per day. Excersize routines are at a minimum due to my health issues, and now covid-19 has kept me from doing some things.
My wife says that I have become obsessed with my weight. But when you need to go out and buy new clothes, you don't want to have your money wasted by gaining weight again.
I have found like quiting smokng, 27 years for me, you have to want to do what it takes to reach your goals.

Good job on the weight loss.
It took me 'bout 6 years to get where I am today. My goal was to lose the weight but do it in a healthy way. No fad or starvation diets. Just eating healthy at a caloric deficit with cardio and weight lifting.
I started at over 230 pounds and today I weighed 140 pounds.
Sometimes ya gotta get a bit obsessed to get the results ya want.

I've gotta load up on carbs more on the days before workout day.
I felt great today and got a great pump.
I did four extra sets with an EZ curl bar and my arms felt 'bout ready to pop. My bicep vein was standing out from my shoulder to wrist.
I'm gonna havta make sure to get my protein.
Tomorrow we have company coming over for a nice bike ride.

We went on a nice 16 mile bike ride today.
'Cept I ended up going 21.08 miles.
I blame it on spin class, I guess I'm getting a bit too used to fast spins. In fact that's the way I ride our home spin bike for an hour at a time too.
I'd ride ahead, clicking it up through the gears, turn around at the next mile marker and ride back.
According to my Garmin GPS watch, I ended up burning 761 calories.
We planned a hike for tomorrow. We'll see if my gimpy old legs feel up to it.

"Low gravity day" at the gym today. Kinda cool when ya set up the weight that you used last time and it seems way too light.
I've been increasing my carbs and protein lately and it seems to be helping.
Since my body fat level's been tested at being "very lean", I've decided to try adding some lean mass.
So, I've made a goal of adding 5 pounds while trying to stay at least close to as lean as I am now.
I know that it'll take a while and I'll havta be careful with my calories and macros.

Beautiful day today. My wife and I got the bikes out for a ride on the C&O Canal Towpath. We ended up going 20.90 miles in a little over 2 and a half hours.
According to my Garmin watch, we burned 683 calories.
When we got home, I fired up the grill and cooked a couple of chicken breasts in hickory smoke

22 mile bike ride yesterday, lifting and spin today, we're planning on a hike up the local mountain ridge tomorrow, spin class on Thursday then lifting on Friday.
Gonna be a busy week.
Gotta make sure to get my protein....

I really blasted my triceps and biceps today. Got a really good pump. Felt like my arms were 'bout to pop.
Of course I also worked chest, back, abs and legs.
The cool thing about low body fat is that you can really see the muscle pump and veins stand out like hoses under your skin.
Anyway, we're gonna take a day off to recover tomorrow and Sunday's looking like a day to make a run to town for supplies.
The forecast for Monday is sunny with a high of 74, perfect for a biking on the Towpath day.

Kinda sore today. Not unexpected after the way I blasted my arms yesterday. Gonna make today an "off" day. Gotta make sure to get my protein.

I'm still doing my higher rep, less weight workouts. That just means, 15 reps or so to failure per set. So it's not about how much weight I'm lifting so much as how much weight it takes to get 'bout 15 reps per set 'til I can't lift it anymore. 'Bout 9 reps for the last set's okay.
At the end of July, we joined a new gym and they did a "fitness assessment."
Since that time I've been working on new goals and ways to reach 'em.
My idea is to gain a few pounds of lean mass.
I feel kinda like I'm walking a tight rope with my nutrition.
Keeping my protein up and making sure to get enough calories, fats and carbs but not too many that I start gaining fat weight.
Today was a workout day and I had to increase my weights on a few of my workouts to keep in my desired rep range.
Then an hour of spin class.
My birthday's in November and I want to do another fitness assessment then to see if I've made any progress.

I got back in the gym almost 3 weeks ago after the 6 month ban. Slowly getting the weights back up to par. I did keep up the cardio the whole time by bike riding.

I had the whole place to myself.

It's not that I'm antisocial or not willing to share but I gotta admit that I like it when I have the gym to myself. 'Specially for super setting.

First time using the Smith machine today.
With my motor nerve condition, I just don't trust my gimpy hands and wrists to hold a heavy weight over any part of my body.
Even with double wrist wraps and gloves.
I usually use the machines for such things as overhead presses and chest presses.
I used the Smith machine for four sets of bench presses and since it's a new to me move I didn't try to push it to hard.
We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I made it out to run 4 times this week. I’m 6’1” 195 and am far from a health nut but I’m mindful of what I put in my body and stay pretty active- I enjoy the Appalachian Trail when I can.

My chest muscles are a bit sore today. I guess that means that I was using that Smith machine right.
Anyway, we're planning on doing just a bit of home cardio today before I fire up the grill and a good cigar.
Planning an epic hike for tomorrow.

My martial arts teacher is not doing zoom lessons any longer, however I found a different school that was started up by one of the former teachers and my previous studio so i have started with him. I am lucky in that he has in person classes which make it so much better. My gym has opened up, but you have to make an appointment to go there and also have to wear a mask so I will not be going there until they get rid of the mask requirement. I found an odl pair of dumb bells that I had in the garage which i can use and at home I can do pushups and sit ups so that will have to suffice for a while. Luckily I can get in bicycle rides for my cardio. You do what you can do.

We started at a new gym and while they do require a mask for the common areas, they also know that people havta breath while exercising and relax the mask requirements in the workout areas and exercise rooms.
Works for me.

Very good day at the gym today. Musta been another one of those "low gravity" days. I increased my weights on all exercises and kept my reps and sets up. In fact I added a couple of extra sets on the chest press, lat. bar and weighted crunches. On my bicep curls I did both a close grip curl on the cambered bar and standing bicep dumbell curls.
Got a monster pump on my arms.
Gotta make sure to get my protein, carbs and fats. Lotsa protein.....

Normally I go on a short ride on my Mountain Bike on Fridays, however with all the smoke we have from the fires here in California I thought it best to not do it. I did practice some of my martial art forms so I could say that I did do a little bit. The smoke it so bad that I could had cut some out of the air and have it for dinner. What a mess and we are about 100 miles from the closest fire.
