BBC is reporting a Coup against the government of Turkey. Military says they are restoring democratic order. That by disposing the lawfully elected, at least as good as it gets there, government.

Not the first time in Turkey . . . military coups in 1960, 1971, and 1980. They stayed in NATO each time.

The military in Turkey acts similar to the way the Ottoman's did. They keep the imam's and caliphs at bay, preventing the creation of another Islamic theocracy. The current PM has been a bit too cozy with the radical Islamists.

Hussein (Iraq), the Assads (Syria), Sadat/Mubarak (Egypt), and Pahlavi (Iran) all managed for years to keep the radicals at bay. However, Western countries (U.S., Great Britain, France, etc.) couldn't/can't understand why democracy just doesn't work, especially in the Middle and Far Eastern countries. The Brits and French managed to screw things up royally after the Great War with their meddling, and we've had three straight Presidents who still attempt to export democracy to countries which don't want or understand it.

When are we ever going to learn?

Prayers that all our military personnel have the means to protect themselves and stay safe.

Looks like 5 general officers and 29 colonels gravely miscalculated the population's sentiments.

Nothing PC about what's going to happen to them.

I think it would have been to our benefit in the long-run if the coup had succeeded. The "elected" Turkish president has been no friend to us and has done little to help against ISIS......he's been very much an islamist autocrat.
