The Deck and the Sounds of Summer
As some of you may have remembered from the ***** I was having my deck redone, new planking, associated trim, steps and new vinyl railing.
Well it's all been completed now and we have been able to enjoy our pool!
Nothing like floating around with a nice cold adult beverage and taking in the rays!
Boy now if we only had the radio stations we use to have way back when were rolling all the hits! That would make the pool party complete!

Dr. Don was the A.M. King of morning drive time, when he was in the S.F. Bay Area. He was also the highest paid D.J. in the 80's, base salary of $350,000.00.
I understand he was a wacky in person as on the radio.
He suffered a broken leg that was not properly treated. An infection developed, and leg had to be amputated. He died not many years after that.

I hear you with the radio dilemma. Homogenized corporate conglomerations.
Recall seeing your pics of some of the old, like the guy
with the hurting horses said how 'bout a new view?
Glad to hear it's done and getting good use.
You ever give the guy his drill back?

Glad you are enjoying the deck. The roof blew off my humble patio last Wednesday. No pool here. As far as radio stations, I've been lucky. Here in St. Louis, classic rock rules the airwaves on KSHE 95. My favorite DJ has been doing the morning show for 40 years and going strong. Have a great rest of summer.

Boy did that bring back some great memories, back when radio was full of personalities, great music and fun contests. Klif in Dallas with Ken Dowe and granny Emma, Charlie Van Dyke, Koma in Oklahoma City, Charlie Tuna, Dale Weba, Jim Dandy...my oh my, those were the days!!

IHeart Radio has plenty of stations to listen to from yesteryear. I've got a stack of LP's that I can reference and download better quality sounds from YouTube or the internet.
Sometimes the tv stations like PBS have shows on that are all about the oldies but goodies. You can buy the cd sets or be like me and search the internet and get them for free.

I've been working on mine for a couple of weeks. I hired an idiot to do labor for me and have had to redo some work. I'll do the rest myself.
The sounds of summer?
Two juvenile Cardinals hanging around and trying to find their voices and a pissed off squirrel barking at my dogs.
You gotta stop and smell the Magnolias.

Beach Boys music will always remind me of summer nights at the lakefront dance hall of my youth. Saw them several times in the 60's and the last time in 1993. My kids and grandkids are fans of their music too.
Jimmy Buffett music is another summer favorite here at the lakes

I haven't listened to radio since "Jelly Pudding" and the "King Biscuit Flower Hour".

I prefer the version of Blue Cheer but the original was performed by Eddie Cochran in 1958.

Having lived in S.E.Pa for most of my formative years my favorite station was WIBG (Wibbage as it was known). It predated WFIL.
Will never forget the likes of Hy Lit or Jerry Blavat.

Jimmy Buffett can make you look for the coast. Was never an actual parrothead but I do like some of his music.

Glad to hear you got it finished I am sure it was hanging over your head until it was. There are still some small radio stations on my drive to my hunting lease that play a good amount of old music of all types and I enjoy my trips listening to them. Used to be a really good one out of Austin but the big boys got them and now they are exactly like the stations you find everywhere. The big media companies need to be broken up like the phone companies were even if only so you can get more than the one opinion on what is going on in the news. A very small number of people control the media and they only give there propaganda out.

As I heard Jimmy Buffett say once. I'm not much of a singer, but I'm a Hell of a story teller. He had that one right. Talk about "Living The Life You Love."

While we're still in a heat wave, I'm thinking of throwing a coupla tubes and a cooler full of beer in the river and floating for a coupla hours.

Taking the show on the road!

Yup. Sure miss the classic tunes and hanging out with old friends on a summer evening. Hope all the old friends are doing well. Think I'll scrounge up some Steely Dan and join in the music.
