Note: If anyone's interested, the movie still is from The Big Sleep (1946). That's the stunningly beautiful 21-year-old Martha Vickers in the shot with Bogart.

The High Window has been filmed twice, and neither time was a big box office success. Once in 1942 as Time to Kill, starring Lloyd Nolan as a private eye named Michael Shayne (yeah, really), and again in 1947 as The Brasher Doubloon, with George Montgomery as Phillip Marlowe. Both were basically B-movies. I've never seen either one, and never seen either of them come up on Turner Classic Movies.

For me, the only onscreen Phillip Marlowe was, and will always be, Humphrey Bogart.

There is a small dog sitting between them on the couch. The dog is vigorously and continuously licking his behind. The mother seems not to notice but the guy is obviously put off by it.
