IT FINALLY HAPPENED !
Today was my time to wander the aisle at Wal-mart playing the role of an "Old Guy" getting in everyone's way.
Going to my vehicle I was blocked in by a green SUV and unable to pull out. Thinking the SUV was waiting for another vehicle to pull out, I waited. After five minutes, I lightly beeped my vehicle horn, and the SUV driver looked over at me and waved. I could then see the driver was a female talkin on her cell phone. She then backed up quickly, still looking ahead and talking on her cell phone. Suddenly there was a crash as the SUV backed into a small sports car leaving a parking space. The SUV driver was very upset as her cell phone conversation was interrupted. Thankfully no injuries.

If I posted what I really think about these idiots on cell phones or worse on the Internet or whatever I'd be banned from this forum. I'll let it go at this. It should be a universal requirement that you pull over into a safe area and stop if you insist on using these while out on the road.

Jimmy! I hope you're proud of yourself!
See what you did? Jeesh.
Did you wave at her as you pulled out?

The other night I almost got ran over by a slightly crazy woman in a store wheelchair. She was going in reverse full speed and not looking back. Apparently, they go just as fast backwards as they go forwards and I had to jump out of the way. She stopped, stood up and used her cane to knock a bunch of boxes off the top shelf so she could get what she wanted. I asked her if she needed help and in a big and boisterous way she said she had been doing "this" for months and has it down. I felt like I needed to put on a safety guard vest and go grab a stop sign to direct foot traffic out of her way. She could have easily run a child over.
Later, we ended up in line next to each other. There was a guy in motorcycle gear in front of her. She yelled to him a few times and he didn't turn around. She grabbed her came and tapped him on the leg. He turned around and she started talking to him about motorcycles. I heard a snippet of her life story. Wally world is never boring!

Wally world. I was there today picking up a bottle of compressed air to dr out my cell phone. Bad knees, if I'm on a quick trip to the back of the store for 1 thing I ride the electric go cart so the knees will last all day.
I am amazed at how many people step out in front of or push their cart in front of you making you stop. I have taken to loudly saying coming thru to folks who stand in an isle gossiping or putting the cart on one side and shop on the other side.
My latest response to folks who give you that withering look if you ask them nicely to move or stop gossiping in the middle of the isle is; I don't buy anything here I just come to watch others yak and block isles.

It would be all right if those cell phone drivers only crashed into themselves or each other.
Good job, Jimmie!

I am surprised no one has made a phone App that receives a wireless signal from a rear mounted camera allowing you to talk and look at the phone screen as you back up. Good grief.

I drive a red F150. Woman, looking right at me with eye contact, pulled out. I am afraid that the sound of my tires screeching on asphalt distracted her. Nothing to do with Wally world. Just a cell phone and very few brain cells.

I'm in Miami & it's a nightmare with cell phones.I even see kids crossing the street never looking out for traffic...their heads are bent looking or playing with their cells! Someone is going to get injured or killed if this keeps going on!

I'll admit to being annoyed by the cart drivers in stores; most of whom look like a few miles' walk would do them a world of good. Pedestrians generally have the right of way on the road and I see no reason why this should not be the case indoors. Riding a cart? Don't expect me to move for you.

I thought I was alone with my cell phone talking/texting disgust.
Almost killed last year when a woman blabbing away on her cell phone rocketed through a stop sign causing me to hit the ditch on the right side of the road.
She kept going never realizing she almost t-boned me, all the while continuing her cell phone blabberdom.

I'm happy that you have no need of the electric carts.
My knees are shot and I have 45% circulation in my right leg. I have three progressive lung diseases (no, I quit smoking almost 25 years ago) and am on oxygen. I'd probably be pretty easy for you to spot because of the oxygen tank. Otherwise you might take me for just a lazy old man.. There are also people who have serious debilitating ailments that don't show on the outside, and who need the carts. I try not to judge them unless they run into the store, put three kids in the basket to ride, and sprint back out.
As for right of way, I don't expect everyone pushing a regulation cart to get out of my way. I do expect the courtesy of not abruptly stepping out in front of me, or blocking the aisle when I'm hurting and want to finish my shopping and go home. Or hitting me from behind because someone didn't look down far enough to see me. Pedestrians have right of way, but they also have the responsibility to look what the hell they are doing, and not push their luck or challenge drivers.
I hope you never have to experience needing the riding carts. I can't recommend it. But they are a huge help to me.
As for driving while on the phone, especially texting, I've lost track of the number of times I've almost been hit by those cretins. They are adding to my strong consideration of giving up driving for good.
