UPDATE 01/30/17:

This will be my last update for a long while. I originally wanted to share the joy of our transplant journey back to "normal" life..."normal" in my case being a relative term. This last setback means that in a best-case scenario, a transplant will not take place for at least 5 years after being pronounced cancer free.

After further tests and exams today, however, it looks like beating the cancer is, optimistically speaking, about a coin flip. We'll take those odds. We know Who's flipping the coin.

Today was also THE day that the transplant surgeon gave his final approval to a living donor who offered Candi a kidney. How's that for timing? Candi has kept her updated about these health issues and told her about the struggles and long delay. Her response to Candi, "I ain't going anywhere." Wow. Ain't nobody backing down.

Our hearts are full of hope and strength..and plain ol' fight...thanks to the encouragement of so many friends...friends who have become family.

I offer sincere gratitude and thanks to those who offer so much encouragement, prayers, kind thoughts, and humor to help us along. Believe me when I say that you're ALL invited to the party when we celebrate that kidney transplant.
This girl I married with the beautiful smile...she's tough as nails too.

Paul...thank you for the update. I only know you from the forum, but from all that I have seen, you and Candi are wonderful people, and I send my and my family's best wishes for her complete recovery and we send our prayers as well.

I have survived some serious life threatening medical situations, and am living proof that today's docs are doing wonderful things, and that medical science has made stunning progress in the "miracle" business!!

Some men, you just can't reach

Just a quick update: Mrs. Bigride has been diagnosed with Stage 4-B cancer that has attacked 3 separate areas. The doctors have informed her that the cancer has matastisized and could appear anywhere in her body. They must monitor her bloodwork closely and perform frequent scans to track potential issues. The latest occurence was found in her rib and backbone and surrounding tissue near her remaining kidney. The oncologists are carefully administering radiation and chemo to aggressively attack the cancer without destroying her minimal kidney function or her remaining vision. She is juggling dialysis, radiation, chemo, and the occasional blood transfusion. She has vowed to fight and trust in strength from the Lord...even when the flesh is weak. Her resolve remains fully intact. No matter the outcome, cancer is the loser in this fight.

Be encouraged if you find yourself in tough circumstances. Though physical strength may fail, cancer cannot conquer the spirit rooted in the Almighty's strength and seasoned with His grace. This I have learned firsthand from the indomitable and never surrender attitude of Mrs. Bigride. Fight the good fight. Prayers for those fighting a similar battle.
