Do You Believe the Garbage on TV?
On the Discovery Channel, they are promoting their upcoming season. One of the shows that are going to air is entitled, "Is Gun Violence Caused by a Virus?" I can just imagine the conclusions they will be be reaching at the end of the show - All crimes are just a sickness! Prisons should be turned into hospitals. (With crimes being a sickness, then the CDC can get it paws into the whole mess and demand guns be banned.)
I can just see it now in the future: A police officer is talking to a mass murderer. He says he had a headache and sore throat so he went out and killed a bunch of people. The cop will tell him to take a few aspirin and he will be OK in a few days!
Soon there will be viruses causing theft, kidnapping, rape, murder, embezzlement, robbery, etc. With the "discovery" of all of these new viruses, Society will become so sick.

You must be wrong, if it's on TV it has to be true.
Last year they filmed an episode of "Naked and Afraid" about 4 or 5 miles outside of Monroe Washington. They filmed a lot of it on the edge and in the woods by a gravel pit.
Now every night the staff and the actors stayed in a motel, and they all had meals served on the set. Whenever they would stop filming they had heavy coats and slip on boots for the contestants. Other than that everything was completely true.
You would have thought that would have tried to keep it a secret but they didn't even try. The entire show was filmed on less than 5 acres of land.

The worst part is that so many people get their culture and morality from the Hollywood entertainment industry. If you want moral decay, just turn on the tube.

The programing on TV is rather disgusting to say the least. People wonder why there is so much violence now. And yes I believe a lot of it stems from the boob tube programing. In the old days children didn't have real guns in their pockets.
I mostly watch the old TV programs. They sure beat the new garbage on TV.

I've said this before; There's more channels and less to watch than ever before.
The so-called "reality" shows are scripted stupidity IMO.
eg; The folks featured "all alone in the wilderness, etc, etc", except for the film crew/camera man, director and who knows who else? Hmmm...

A quote from "Galaxy Quest"...Surely, you don't believe Gilligan's Island...?"
"Those poor, poor people..."
Yep, if it's on television or the internet, it has to be true!

Do you really think there is a difference? It's all about ratings either way. Ever been involved in anything that made network news? Did the reporting have any resemblance to what actually happened?

At least SOME parts of the internet are real.
It's pretty easy to find out which ones, too. Just pay attention to the things that TV talking heads call "conspiracy theories " and watch those things turn out to be real in your life.
But most people have such a short memory, nobody notices.

I have found the topics explored on "Through the Wormhole" to be at least thought-provoking, and the treatment is usually thorough. I'll reserve judgment on the "Gun Virus" episode until I see it. But I wouldn't totally dismiss the possibility that there might be some viral contribution to violent or criminal behavior. Or many other strange behavioral aberrations.

With the possible exception of "The First 48", and "Deadliest Catch", every reality show on TV is staged. The yahoos from "Pawn Stars" only show up at the shop when they are filming, the guys on American Pickers go through and find the stuff they haggle over well before the filming begins, and so on.
Even the shows that aren't fixed in advance, are edited heavily. Any of you ever watch "Boston EMS" on TV? I worked there for 35 years and stopped watching the show after 2-3 episodes. They cut out about 90% of what actually happens on a call, mixed shots with different crews, so that multiple calls were made to look like one call. In general, it was good PR, but to anyone who knows anything about Boston or EMS, it was obviously edited to make routine calls look dramatic.
It's all fake and that includes most of the news.

Television is a tough outlet for the truth........
I jest don't get it when some tv spoke person (pick any metro dept.) says,
"We've taken 6000 guns of the street!"
But, it seems they have left all the usual suspects on the street....

TV-what's that ? Has as much credibility as the editorial copy in the men's magazines.
"Naked and Afraid"? I thought that was about people who go to a nude beach and worry they might bump into someone they know from elsewhere .

I was thinking that same thing.
I haven't watched that episode but W
what I'm thinking is that the virus somehow kills or disrupts the frontal lobes ...which has been proven to make people more aggressive and less rational

There's a great deal about the human brain's effect upon behavior that no one yet understands. Has anyone watched the CBS series "Brain Dead?" Even though it has a semi-comedic slant, from what I see happening today, I have to wonder if some of the plotline about insects attacking brains isn't factual.

"I've got thirteen channels of **** on the TV to choose from"
I'm going to have to listen to Roger's 2014 version to see if he's updated that line.

Absolutely Astounding! Take Pro-Wrestling for example. Although it is scripted and choreographed, it is still considered a reality show by some!
I for one believe everything that is subjected during the 2-3 hour presentation. They make it so real, how can it not be?
It's The Carbonaro Effect!

speaking of history channel
I note that a couple days ago Gabe Rygard of that well hyped and now canceled show Axe men died in a auto accident.
Its a wonder he did not die long before this as each show had him blowing his cool big time with his father or one of the other cretins that "worked" for him. If all that BS was not part of the plot a normal person would have had a stroke or heart attack long before this auto crash took him.

Oh, it can be. And often is.
Still doesn't help.
Though, it does thin out the participants at times.

I admit I enjoy watching a few of their tornado-chasers shows-but that's about it. I want a real weather report? I watch both channel 6--and channel 10-because of Sonya Hill:
She is originally from a small town not far from here called: Orange Grove.
PS, rumor has it that she was first discovered working at a Marble Slab Creamery.

Anything I don't agree with on the Tee-Vee is pure garbage and shouldn't be allowed.
Not that I spend a lot of time in front of the Tee-Vee or anything.

The last time I watched network TV, listed to news on the radio or national news paper Ronald Regan was president. There were two Super Bowl games I watched.
From what little I read on this forum, I don't think I am missing much and am much happier with life just living it instead of hearing how terrible everything is.

It's another way to excuse away the mistakes of people. It's a sickness and not their fault.
In a thinking persons lingo, pure bull.

in the 1950's there were 4 TV channels, free of charge....entertaining programs that the whole family could enjoy......
today the cable and satellite companies give us 100+ channels of mindless "reality"; viewing filled with obscene language and nudity; more commercials than you can shake a stick at.........all for an over the top monthly fee........
