Default Criminal Minds Question

Do you watch, "Criminal Minds"?

The show fired Thomas Gibson, who played Agent Hotchner, for kicking a writer with whom he disagreed. This was a crucial loss for the show, as he was THE central character, whom they could ill afford to lose and have the show survive.

But I read that the guy who played Agent Morgan has also left the show. (Shemar Moore)

I haven't seen the series much this season. How did the show explain Morgan leaving? Was he killed off, or what? And why did the actor leave?

I know that he and Gibson fought over Moore being late to work a lot.

There was a rather complex story line that ran through the last season where an old enemy was seeking revenge against the Morgan character. At one point Morgan was kidnapped and tortured and later the bad guy went after his wife and unborn child. In the end the BG was dead and Morgan decided to leave the FBI for the sake of his family.
So they left it open to where there is the possibility that Morgan could come back.

I have no idea how they will handle the loss of Gibson. But its been a good show and had a good run. I'm thinking this will probably be the last season.

Aren't they bringing back Prentiss to replace Hotch? I thought I read also that Hotch was being put in charge of some special super-secret project by the FBI Director (never to be heard of again).

I was getting bored with Criminal Minds anyway. They had done every conceivable plot line a dozen times already, and the show has been stale for quite awhile. Those who love it can always spend the rest of their lives watching re-runs.

They've jerked that actress (Paget Brewster) around a couple of times already, and gave the one who played Ashley Seaver just one season. (Rachel Nichols.)

I think that director or producer must not know very well what fans want and may be difficult to work for.

If they can get Paget (Emily Prentiss) back, that's about all that can save the show. She has been enormously popular with fans.

I do think that this next will be their final season.

If it was up to me, I'd promote Hotchner to asst. director where he'd no longer have direct contact with the BAU, or assign him to a US Embassy as the Legal Attaché (Legat). Killing off characters is too trite a solution.

Not a very loyal fan of the show but I like the fact that one of the main characters carries a S&W 65.

They didn't jerk her around. She left cause she wanted to. They kept asking her to come back and shed only do small parts.

I'm surprised the spinoff Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (with Gary Sinise) was allegedly renewed. I watched the first couple of episodes, and it stunk-big time. I was hoping for a lot better.

Gad, did THAT thing get renewed? That was worse than NCIS LA!

I believe that Paget Brewster(Plays Prentiss), in the last month or so, has gone from doing a few episodes this season to being in all of them. I could be wrong and I can;t seem to find the article that stated that.

As far as beyond borders, I really like Gary Sinise. His CSI(CSI:NY) was my favorite of the 3. When I heard he was going to be the main character, I was hoping that it would have been his CSI:NY character moving up. That was the first let down. The second was the show itself. I gave it the entire season. Actually, I just watched the last 4 episodes last week. I tried. I really wanted to like it. The characters are just dull.

What I read was that she got fired the first time, at least. Ditto for A.J. Cook, who plays J.J. Jareau. They were trying to be cheap and save money, not realizing that the hot actresses had a LOT to do with the show succeeding. Moreover, women fans identified with them, especially with Emily Prentiss.

I just checked the salaries of some stars. Joe Mantegna is tops, at $125,000. Gibson was next at $120,000. A.J. Cook gets a reported $100,000. Didn't look further. These figures are well under what another network pays stars for leading shows. These fees are per episode, not per season!

I think Charlie Sheen was making a cool million (?) an episode until he had his meltdown and did himself a massive mischief. It was certainly a huge sum.

What actors earn seems to vary a LOT , even if their shows are popular.

Yeah, and I like his holster, a Bianchi Model 5, I think. Thanks for the pic.

Sinise seems a nice guy who does a lot for veterans.

Jennifer O'Dell guested on CSI:NY after her show, The Lost World, was cancelled. She told, The Lost World fans that Gary Sinise had been very kind to her as a guest star. That raised him a lot in my estimation.

She also guested on CSI: Miami, but I didn't hear any feedback from her on that one. She shot a cop in the face with a nail gun in that episode. Gotta hurt, if real!

I want CM to be more like the real BAU and base shows on real case files, like the old FBI show with Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. did.

Thomas Harris got real cases that he modified for his books, like, "The Silence of the Lambs."

If Paget Brewster is now coming back to CM full time, maybe the reason she avoided that before was one or both of the men now gone. ?? Or she may just see the writing on the wall and want the most she can make from the final season.

Brewster and Cooke were not fired as much as "not renewed." neither wanted to leave and the fans were very vocal about that. The show wasn't the same without either.

I'm not sure who Jennifer O'Dell is, but if I look her up, I'll most likely remember her from being on at least two, most likely all 3 CSI's. Most guest stars make their rounds from one series to the next, hopping from studio to the next.

Lost world was one that I wanted to watch. I remember wanting to set my vcr for it, but forgot. I missed it. I wonder if it's on Netflix.

I've never seen anything bad about Sinise. He loves our military members and does a lot to help them. That goes a long way. Lt. Dan is the man...sorry, I had to!

I left the show when the female agent who blew away the bad guy in the alley left the show. I liked her in the Soprano's as well.

Jennifer O'Dell's best known role was as Veronica Layton, the blonde who owned the big treehouse on, "The Lost World." The explorers lived up there to avoid dinosaurs, hostile Indians, and other threats. Of course, they still got out in the jungle a lot and had plenty of adventures. Search for the actress by name or under, The Lost World. You'll find MANY nice photos. Her outfit was pretty cute, and was probably intended to attract male viewers.

There are also a LOT of fan videos about the show, and episodes are on YouTube. I'm a fan of Lara Cox, who played Finn for 8 episodes in the Third Season. Her black shorts outfit and crossbow were also pretty cute. She's an Aussie, like most of the cast. Jen O'Dell was the only American, but Lara had a voice coach and tried to sound American. Favorite episodes include, "Finn", "The Imposters" (Third Season), and, "Trophies", from the Second Season. In that one, look for Peter O'Brien as the villain and Rachel Blakely as heroine Marguerite Krux, pronounced as Crew. They were previously both guests on, "Flipper."

One appeal of Lost World is the guns and the fact that the heroes were armed and were not cops or soldiers, a rarity on modern TV.

Filmed in tropical Queensland, Australia, standing in for Brazil. Had to be Brazil because they went upriver on the Amazon from Manaus in the first episode. BTW, Lord Roxton lost that idiot toy rifle after the first couple of episodes. He then had what was supposed to be a .416 Rigby and it looked authentic. His revolvers were nickled Webley MK VI's with white handles, in shoulder holsters. He and Ned Malone also wore Colt .45 autos, too. The show was set from 1919-1922, which gave a little more room for guns than if it was in the 1912 period of Sir Arthur C. Doyle's book. The show was a LOT better than either the book or the several movies based on it, beginning in 1925.

Try YouTube for episodes. I could post some clips, but I'm afraid to on this board. Some might see them as too, ah, racy.

After the abrupt cancellation of that show, Jen drifted as a guest star, then took up wedding photography. She married a chiropractor, I think, and had a son. I don't think she's acting now. Rachel also seems retired and is now in her mid 40's; runs a fashion business and is with her partner, who ran the stunts on Lost World and a prior Aussie series, Tales of the South Seas, also starring Rachel Blakely and Will Snow (Lord Roxton) with whom she had enormous chemistry .

BTW, after the First Season, their dinosaurs were MUCH more realistic. The most common species called a raptor resembled Troodon, if you know dinosaurs.

Would that be Elle Greenaway, played by Lola Glaudini? If so, I wasn't a fan and was actually happy that she left.

The T-rex from the First Season wasn't too well done, but the last two seasons had far better.

I recall seeing Apatosaurus /Brontosaurus or similar, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and those raptors. I may have missed some. And some episodes featured dinosaurs that had evolved into the equivalent of humans. They had a culture like ancient Rome, and were led by a dictator called Tribune.

He first appeared in the First Season episode, "More Than Human." Look too for the hot slave girl whose brother was assigned to fight Roxton in the arena.

I didn't much care for the actor who played old Prof. Summerlee, but barbarians killed him off at the end of the First Season. He was on the Official fan board for a time, and we argued about gun control. This guy was a Brit who moved to Canada, but his parents were Russian. He did know good tea, and I agree with him that Twining's may have cheapened their Ceylon blend. You also now get 20 bags per box. Used to be 25. Still very good tea.

This guy did carry a Webley MK IV .38 on the show, but it was plain that he wasn't into guns and he barely knew how to use it. He seemed rather prissy to me. The rest of the cast were exceptional, though. And when Finn arrived, she fit right in and became one of my favorites. They should have given her guns, but I guess the producer wanted her to have that crossbow as part of her persona.

You can see Lara Cox, who played Finn, as the wife of the hero in the DVD, "The Marine 2." Get that exact title. There is also a "The Marine" sequel that has a totally different cast and plot. I didn't like it, but the 2 version is a quite good action movie. Lara again had to affect a US accent, but she's good at it. I love her normal voice, and there are shows on the Net where you can hear it, including some movie previews. You can also see Rachel Blakely in other series. She always uses her normal voice. BTW, she has dual Australian-US citizenship, as her dad was an American.

The show did the best they could on period guns. They had MK IV Webley .38's stand in for MK VI .455's a few times. I guess the prop house didn't have enough .455's, other than the nickel ones used by Roxton. Look at Capt. Askwith's gun in the two-part episode where they had the big Royal Navy blimp. The MK IV .38 wasn't made until 1927 and the show went only to 1922. I guess they figured that 99% of the viewers don't know one Webley from another.

It was a good show, worth seeking out. All three seasons have been available on DVD.

I found one of my favorite episodes of, The Lost World, "Trophies" from the second season.

Look carefully. I think Marguerite recognized the villain for who he really was from the first. She was just too secretive to tell the others. She had many secrets that trickled out over the course of the show. She was a jewel thief, had maybe murdered three elderly husbands for their fortunes, and was a double agent in WWI. She finally fell for Lord John Roxton and found the emotional security that she had been denied for all of her prior life.

This show appeared in prime time on non-cable channels for three years. I think it will meet board standards.

Look carefully at Burton's revolver as he stands over an unconscious Ned Malone. That 's a Ruger Blackhawk standing in for a Colt SAA.
