For those with a C&R license
Hello all, I had a couple questions to those who have or have held a C&R license. While the atf website has a lot of Q&A. There's nothing that I found that directly address some of the questions. That being said, I very well could have overookedt it. Here they are:
1. Are C&R eligible firearms thst I owned before I acquired the license required to be documented in my bound book?(ie my grandpas old Parker that was handed down to me)
2. Are non eligible firearms that I get required to be recorded in my bound book? Example: I go to buy a new Glock at my lgs. Do I record that as acquisition? Or am I simply a consumer when it comes to non C&R guns.
3.When it comes to selling a non C&R firearm, do I record that as a disposition? Example: I go to sell my old 870 I have owned for 7 years?
Just trying to get some ideas here. I have emailed the ATF with the exact questions. Just curious if any of you have had the same questions and what answers you came up with. Thanks in advance

Have had one for many years now and hardly use it?
To answer your questions....
1. No, Only what you purchase going forward using the license
2.No. You only have to post what you purchase using the license. Anything you buy new or from your LGS that is non C&R does not get entered.
3. Only transactions pretaining to your C&R. Nothing else.
Hope this helps......

I asked ATF about this and I received a phone call from ATF. She said that I should record C&R eligible firearms acquired prior to getting the C&R and that I put the source as my personal collection. She said that if the firearm is C&R eligible, put it in the book.
Keep in mind that if you let your C&R expire, you can destroy the book unlike a regular FFL.

Interesting . . . I made a call and asked a similar question and was advised that I didn't have to put my previously purchased C&R firearms in the book until I sold them, then I had to log them.

Concerning this conversation, I'm an absolute dummy when it comes to what you all are talking about. Can someone give me the "C&R for Dummies" version of what a C&R is and why somebody would need one?
I'm really curious.

C&R refers to a "Curio & Relics Federal Firearms License". It is more for collectors than those who engage in selling firearms to make a living.
Google it to get all sorts of information.

Your existing firearms that may qualify as C&R do not need to be entered in your "book" until such time as you sell that item. Then list as "previously acquired prior to C&R" and who sold to, as it is a transaction utilizing your C&R. Keep in mine a C&R is specifically "Not in Business". When you start renewing your license you have to list how many "C&R" guns you bought and sold during that prior 3 year period. Watch out on the renewal form on the back page at the bottom, a question indicating you are a "business", I drew a line through "business" before signing it.

A C&R FFL is something developed by the devil himself for otherwise sane and law abiding gun owners to be parted with their hard earned money. I curse the day that I googled C&R FFL . . . and I've renewed mine four times.

I have a feeling I will be in the same boat Faulkner. Just curious what vendors you guys use the most? I figure as much shooting/reloading I do, the discounts will add up.

Brownells is probably the most significant vendor that offers FFL discounts to C&R holders (FFL Type 03). The discount percentages vary per item, but the savings quickly pay for the modest FFL fee.
I understand Grafs and a few others also extend trade discounts to C&R holders.

I guess we talked to different ATF "experts". I like your answer better.
