Default 5 guys

I have a dr`s appointment this AM and there is a 5 guys so close you can smell it. I haven`t even left the house and those wonderfully greasy delicious French Fries are calling my name BIG TIME.
But "she who must be obeyed "Forbids it . What a Dilemma , how to get my fries and stay out of trouble???

5 Guys is an overpriced circus and the food is nothing you can't make better at home for a tenth of the cost.

Not that I have an opinion or anything ...

You could buy the fries for her, and salvage the ones that fall out to the bottom of the bag for yourself.

Wife and I have been to 5 Guys a couple times when we're out and about. We split a burger and fries which is more than enough.

I guess the Dr. wasn't your ally on the french fry mission.

When I worked in Mocksville, my treat was a visit to Macaroni Grill on Hanes Mall Bl.
The servers sang opera beautifully.

Actually my Dr. who is still relatively new to me is a nice Lady Dr.And I am gradually getting comfortable with her.

I just had two back surgeries in three weeks and Im still messed up. Anyway after the first surgery, they would not let me have anything to eat until after I had a BM. Well I was starving and some yahoo nearby my room had bacon and it smelled so good,,long story short in a futile attempt to do a BM I over strained and guess what- yeah popped out a hemorrhoid!
That was one of the things I needed to ask my Lady Dr. about . Talk about embarrassing, she laughed it off and said there like opinions we all have one.

I remember people at work raving about it. There's one 4 miles from me so one day I decided to try them. Maybe I had bigger expectations based on my coworkers rave reviews. I left thinking I just paid to eat a burger typically sold in the supermarket frozen food section.

There's one about 8 or 10 miles out. I took a friends recommendation and tried it. Even the burger was too greasy, and it was way too much food. But I was retired (the best time of my life) and my wife wasn't. That resulted in me going where I pleased for lunch. Then I had to either lie to her about where I went or take the abuse when she got home. I learned to duck the question by keeping a drink cup from some dive she approved of and putting it next to my chair or on the sink. She'd see it and falsely assume that was were I'd gone.

All was well until one day I went to 5 guys and I saw my former next door neighbor working there. I'd already gotten my food, but I tossed it away and left. The girl appears in the local jailtracker.com web site with arrests for drugs and loitering for prostitution. I hated it when she (and the US government section 8) rented next door. It was so bad I moved (in opposition to going to jail for shooting her). I then sold my .458 Winchester because we don't have elephants down here. I still can't figure out why anyone would pay for her services, fat as she is.

And I've never gone back to 5 guys. My doctor wanted to know about my diet. I told him I was down to 2 cheese burgers per week. If I up it by one, it certainly won't be from that dive. I'm picky, and select the restaurants that win or come close to the annual best in city.

Well, to me one of the best old time burgers comes from Waffle House:

It's grilled in its own fat grease on a steel frying surface where the onions are also turned golden brown from the grease. Put that on a bun with mustard and maybe ketchup and it's culinary heaven.

As I said, it old time cooking.

The followup place would have been, if in Chicago, the Billy Goat where the burgers were done the same way.

When burgers met the Weber grill, things went downhill.

I've only been married 21 years, but I tell my wife what I will and will not eat.

And one of my favorite treats is a 5 Guys cheeseburger and a chocolate milkshake. I don't need the fries, although they're excellent also, but I crave their milkshakes!

My 5 Guys doesn't have milkshakes! But, Chic Filet has shakes to
die for. Just had a strawberry for dinner. Wife had chocolate. A
real treat.

you guys are all rich.
i'd never spend lots of money on a burger when mine are cheaper n better.
by the way, if you crave something special that only comes from one chain, check the net for knock off recipes.
you can pretty much duplicate anything.

Amazes me when I watch the guys manning the grill at 5 guys. They repeatedly mash with a big spatula the burgers as they fry them, squeezing all the juice out of them. I do the opposite of when I cook my burgers - I flip them once and *never* mash them. I suppose there might be so much fat in the beef they use that it still leaves something in them, but I'd rather use better beef to start with.

Wife and I went to one for the first time last year for lunch. We both left disappointed. Needless to say, we won't be back.

I don't care for Five Guys, either.
I had a truffle mushroom Swiss at Smashburger today, and it was just different enough to be pretty good.

Truer words were never spoken. I would far rather go to the Texas-based Whataburger chain where everything is much cheaper and far better. My single first visit to 5 Guys was also my last. I have identical sentiments about In-n-Out Burger.

"I had a truffle mushroom Swiss at Smashburger today, and it was just different enough to be pretty good."

Went there once, nothing special. The local Smashburgers couldn't make it here in town and have all closed down - I think, at least the two nearest me.

I like White Castle. I ate many a double cheeseburger from the White Castle at 117th and I-90 in Cleveland after an illegal unpaid overtime shift working for a crooked IT contractor.

At 1:00-2:00am, there weren't many places TO eat.

Doesn't exist in NE Ohio. 5 Guys is the best fast food burger you're going to get in the Cleveland area.

I went to a recently-opened Whataburger in the San Antonio Medical Center area for lunch today, as I hadn't been there yet. Business was amazing, I could hardly get in the door. Whataburger operates in Texas and several surrounding states - too bad they are privately held, or I'd put every penny I had into Whataburger stock. There is an immense amount of customer loyalty, about like Chick-Fil-A, also will be full up with customers about any time you go there. But no hamburgers on the menu.

Wow no love for 5 guys over here. I just went once, in London, and thought they were good, but I do recall it was terribly expensive. I mean it was like 3 times more expensive than a McDonalds.

In the States I went to a place called "ShakeShack" if I recall correctly. In Manhattan. Saw a review on a magazine and decided to go. Went there and there were people waiting in line outside! Is that even common? Maybe they were all dumb tourists like me.

I liked it also... but really.. I just love all burgers, I'm not very picky at all.

When I was going to Ohio State, I did a lot of late night eating at White Castle. I think their regular burgers were a dime each back then. Remember their slogan "Buy 'em By The Sack"? They weren't that good, but cheap and available at 2 AM.

Five Guys are OK, but only that. Now, if there were a Chester's here (DWalt, I'm looking at you )you couldn't get me to even consider a Five Guys. I'm still searching for a reasonably good burger here...

I like 5 Guys, but don't eat there that often. Honestly, it reminds me of the burgers mom would make in the dead of winter when we wanted a touch of summer while looking out the window at snow drifts lol I eat at Steak and Shake more often (love me the Frisco burger and the string fries with the jalapeno vinegar juice and lots of salt)

I've had Five Guys in Virginia and California. I thought they were pretty good for a fast food place. Buns were a little too soft.

The best hamburgers I've had, though, tend to be in non-chain restaurants and pubs.

Chester's is OK, but it's a bit of a drive to the closest one. They are not found on every street corner like McD, Burger King, JIB, etc. When I worked at Randolph AFB, there was one in Universal City which I visited occasionally. I think it's still a local chain.

A new hamburger chain has started here - Frontier. I went once when they first opened, doubt I will return as it's nothing special. I doubt they will make it in the long haul.

"Wow no love for 5 guys over here. I just went once, in London, and thought they were good, but I do recall it was terribly expensive. I mean it was like 3 times more expensive than a McDonalds."

I flew into London in 2003 and went to the Burger King. A Whooper meal cost about $14!!

The best burger I've had in the past few years was at Ted's Montana Grill. It's a chain restaurant (not fast food), but not that common. It was bison and it was $17. Too rich for my blood on a regular basis, but for a treat every couple of months, totally worth it! Food is one of those things that on a day in and day out basis, I view as simply putting the nutrients in my body I need and not much else, but once in a while, I like to splurge and do it up.

CBus, I want to a Ted's Montana Grill in Indianapolis a few years back and the waiter, by offering samples, talked us into bison burgers. They were excellent. Haven't been back to a Ted's since, but would absolutely do it again if I ran into one.

Default Burger love

Steak & Shake was my favorite when I was near one, Granpaws (sp) a local Denver joint with several locations, if you like me like a burger fried on a grill with lots of grease.
Be well

2 out of the 3 in Ohio are less than 20 minutes from me. Living in the burb's of Columbus has it's perks. I'm a big fan of Mitchell's Ocean Club too, but again, it's a once or twice a year affair for me. Ocean Prime | Mitchell's Ocean Club | Easton | Prime Steak, Fresh Seafood, Fish

The closest 5 Guys to me is about 125 miles away in Lubbock, Texas. My friend and I went to Lubbock and made the Cabela's Outpost store to pick up a shotgun. Afterwards we took a cashiers recommendation and went to 5 Guys for burgers and fries. It was good and we left with smiles on our faces. We have a couple of Blue Sky hamburger specialty joints here in Amarillo and theirs is great. Give me a good old greasy hamburger and fries and I am a happy camper.

There is a 5 Guys a couple of miles from one of the venues that has a large gunshow I usually attend. My gunshow buddy and I head over there after a few hours of shopping and fighting the crowds with a good appetite built up and engorge ourselves on double bacon cheeseburgers. We usually split a bag of fries though as it is a large portion. I like their food much better than the somewhat legendary (outside of CA) In'N'Out Burger chain. But I sure wouldn't eat it more than once every few months. It's not exactly on Michelle Obama's recommended healthy lunch menu.

Five Guys is alright. I eat there now and then. Never knew they had shakes, though. Shakes are yummy, but very bad news in the calorie department.

Whataburger is pretty decent, but not in the same league as Five Guys. Red Robin and a local joint called White House Meat Market may just have the best restaurant burgers I've ever tried.

That is a shame, but NE Ohio is not known for good food, fine or fast. I spent most of the 90's living in Hudson, Ohio freezing my rear end off drinking beer and eating grease (Parasons, JoJos, Swenson's, Luigis, Louie's, Winking Lizard, Dantino's, Ken Stewarts, I hope the Bangkok Gourmet is still there - that was almost like culture. .

A new hamburger chain has started here - Frontier. I went once when they first opened, doubt I will return as it's nothing special. I doubt they will make it in the long haul.
Frontier is the old Jim's before they became sit-down restaurants. They started in the 1940's. I like their burgers OK. Chester's makes very good burgers. It is hard to beat Chris Madrid's if you are near downtown San Antonio.

I can't recommend 5 Guys burgers either. When the best thing someone can say about a burger place is "they have great fries," you got a problem.

I would go to 5 Guys when I lived in Fairfax County VA - which I believe is the home of the chain. My wife thought it was cool - but I would make a 45 minute drive to the closest Fuddruckers.

It's weird. There are very good places, but everyone that knows about the good places want to keep them secret. It doesn't have the "foodie" scene to spread the news that other cities do. Cleveland does have Michael Symon MICHAEL SYMON

I guess you folks are right about them being overpriced. One time I took my wife her- HAS- TO-BE- ADOPTED brother, his wife and I to 5 guys and my BIL ordered a plain burger with nothing on it. For what that burger cost he didn't even put catsup on it. WHAT a Waste ! But then I`m going on about BIL`s and about to whats the word steer my own thread off course?
But I really do like the fries, but yesterdays hemorrhoid business kind of ruined my appetite.
Maybe we should start talking about BIL`s and Hemorrhoids.
Take my BIL----please!!!

Best burgers in my smallish college town IMHO.

If you add FRESH jalapenos to your burger it'll change everything.

If you are like me, the reason for your doctor's appointment is because you're not able to resist those greasy fries...

I don't remember the fries being particularly good. What I remember is a pretty pedestrian, run of the mill lunch for 2 was over $30. No shakes or anything, just 2 burgers, drinks and fries.

I could have made the same thing at home and had money left over for a pound of gun powder.
