The rut must be starting
It's about the only time you see the big boys in the broad daylight.

Fix yer clock FT!!! That buck saw the clock and though it was night time.
Btw very nice buck. Have plenty of ice handy cause it's hot. I had ten bucks around me Saturday and was very surprised to see them scraping already and butting heads. Our Rut usually falls around the first week of November as well. He might be scared to lay down now that I think of it with those rattlers like you posted slithering around. Good luck.

I saw one similar to that at Brazos Bend State Park last weekend. Good looking buck.

Won't see the rut around here until Late December or January, sometimes later. I've even seen the season end before the rut.

Pre rut, harmones kicking in on both sexes.
I saw 2 does in 2 days hit this week going to the farm.
The cool weather and shorter days get them moving.
And Tom, quit carrying Nikon camera and carry a Bow. That is a nice one.
Some of us remember that, our neck muscles would swell, we'd rub our heads on saplings, run screaming through the woods and our beloved would look at us with half closed eyes. Then tell us to take out the garbage........

Ehh, if you live in the suburbs with an excessive amount of flower munchers, you can see them pretty much anytime. This was taken in August at about 4PM

I broke 7 vertebrae when I fell 16 feet from a stand 6 years ago. Among other things,it prevents me from taking the additional measures needed to switch from a rifle to a bow.

Still a ways out here. Usually not full blown until middle of Nov. There is a small group of does that hang out around my place. The bucks haven't even started showing up around them and that happens before the rut really starts.

Lots folks use the word RUT to describe Pre-Rut. Pre-Rut is the fun time. Peak of the rut (actual breeding) is when things slow.
Anyways, I'm ready after this Africa hot summer. And the heck with tree stands. I've hunted in a tree stand once in the past 20+ years and I have no intention of getting in one again.

Sorry about the fall. Hope you can walk ok now.
Crossbow.
My brothers right Rotator Cuff wore out or was tore out while team roping. He ended up getting a Dr's approval for a crossbow. He's killed some deer. Says the scoped thing shoots like a rifle when the deer is in range.

Rut hasn't started yet here in the Sierras. A few does with yearlings visit in back but no bucks yet. Deer season began last Saturday but haven't heard any shooting. Grandson got a nice forked horn. My son just sent a picture tonight. Don't know where however.
