I shot my laptop yesterday
Yep, blew it all to bits. Darn windows 10 automatic updates kept me from opening word and excel files that I have had for years. I attempted to revert and things only got worse; black screen then login then black screen. it was 2004 when I first bought it and it has served me well. I feel much better now, you know, shooting IS good therapy.
My next computer will be an Apple product for sure!

Do laptops require Bear loads or will a sub-magnum load work?
It is fun shooting old TV's as well.
I'd like to shoot mine the past 4 weeks or so.
But the wife needs her reality shows so i just don't watch
anything but movies....Keeps my blood pressure down.

It's really, really simple to stop Windows 10 from doing automatic updates. Rather than me explaining it, just Google for the answer - just a matter of changing the "Metered" status from "off" to "on." It's about that quick.

And that's a big reason why I'm still running Windows 7 on all my computers. And automatic updates are turned off too. I want to pick the time and place to update Windows, not let M$ decide.

I was thinking of shooting my laptop yesterday and just using gun money to buy a new one. If i do shoot my laptop i think i'll see how many 357 magnum rounds it takes to reduce it to bits.

You've given new meaning to the term, "screen shot".

I have felt like doing just that many times. Win. 8 and upwards is the biggest gob-lolly of a mess Microsoft has ever thought up. Were it not that they cost so much and that you can't hardly find a laptop with a 16" screen in macs I would done it long ago.

15 is as big as the MacBooks get. I had, still have actually, an original Powerbook 16. That thing kept me warm in the winter. With the modern screen improvements the 15's have I don't miss that extra size at all.

I did this a few years ago with 2 outdated laptops. They were kinda scary so I didn't take any chances and shot them from a 100 yards with an 8mm Mauser and 7.62x54. then I did the same to the hard drives

"What is the best caliber to shoot a laptop!?" Make sure you don't just wound it, it may charge you.
I've got an old laptop riding in the back of my pick up awaiting the same fate.
I can't decide 12 Ga, .45 ACP or .308...

In my experience, a 357 Keith load works quite well both on hard drives and whole computers.
As a side note, a couple of years back we hauled a couple of computers out to the range and had fun shooting them up.
One was an old Pentium 4 desktop. I managed to make a couple of big holes in it with some slugs, but the fun part was shooting the heatsink with a 357 magnum and having it pull the processor out of the socket. We finally propped the processor up on top of the case and took turns shooting it(it was a nice, small ~20 yard target). Despite a few hits, we never managed any perceptible damage to it. I think that the fact that the heat spreader is a VERY tough piece of metal combined with the fact that it tended to just move out of the way when hit contributed to that. I should have saved it, because I suspect it would have still worked.

Poor laptop....ate something to make it sick. May I send flowers?
To keep Big Brother out of my already scammed 8.1, I downloaded the free GWX Control panel which kept 10 out and then later purged any files the evil empire was trying to bury. I am clean of FLASH as well, yet MS keeps trying to get me to download their 140MB purge tool (ain't nothing to purge!) and keeps sending me updates for OFFICE and FLASH. I do not use IE. This week they are trying to enlarge their self SPYWARE with the Tracking update, but I never downloaded that mess to begin with when it was in the May batch.

You've been using the computer since 2004 and blame Windows 10?
Ask somebody how their 12 year old Apple is performing with the latest version of OS X before buying a fruit computer. You probably will not find anyone that has a 12 year old Apple running the latest version of OS X.

Nerver done a lap top, but I did empty a 9 shot Mossie 12Gauge (5 00 buck 4 slugs)into a full size tower before I took them down to the place that held a free get rid of your old electronics day.
None of anything stored in the computer was readable and I got a real strange look from the attendant when I took it out of my truck.

Wanna make your computer faster? Toss it out the window from the 15th floor of your office building.
One of my favorite video clips and one that has often inspired me to "computer violence" is a few years old. It is the one where the guy working in one of those cubicle type offices like Dilbert in the funny papers loses it BIG TIME and goes all mid-evil on it. I mean he don't hold nuttin' back....looks like something I'd enjoy.
I've been saying for years that the day may come when I take mine out to the back yard and give it a fling over the fence. I am absolutely positive that day is coming. I have no idea when but I do feel it. I am both dreading it and looking forward to it.
If I ever go missing in here that may well be the reason. If I have time I'll try to stop by and say my good-byes but I'm not sure that'll be possible.
Pray for peace....

Trust me when I say that I've spent many a pleasant hour contemplating that very question. I wanted to shoot it but not just for target practice. I wanted to KILL it. I wanted to inflict the most damage (really wanted it to be pain but, well....).
Different shooting situations require different ballistic needs. Things like a .25/06 for those long distance shots with a little sting on the end wasn't what I needed. Now the Barrett .50 sniper rifle would have been nice but not practical and I don't have one of those any way.
What I came up with was a slow heavy bullet where penetration and long distance accuracy were not going to be factors. My Ruger SR-1911 spitting out 230 grain Ranger XTs sounded like a good solution. I keep one magazine loaded up with the Rangers just for emergencies.

Loved my 12 year old Mac, never had a problem. Unfortunately with electronic items, obsolescence seems to be built in. It got to the point this year that I would have had to buy more memory to update, so now it's a dedicated offline word processor and bookkeeper. Love my new 27" Mac for my tired old peepers.

Suppressed 22. I want to hear the impact. Over and Over.
Don't stop until it stops screaming. Then two more rounds for good measure.

I've taken a few of the old shop laptops to the range, with permission of the owner and range operators, of course.
I've shot them with 9, 45, and 22. The fun only ends when when the ammo is gone

Yeah. Buy an Apple! Twice I had had Microsoft updates destroy my computer. Never again. My wife has been using Apple for years. Their updates go flawlessly. I got a message to update my windows 7 to 10 repeatedly. Microsoft promised I could go back to 7 easily if I didn't like it. They lied. After I installed their windows 10 update, my computer wouldn't even boot. I am done with those guys. I am now a 100% believer in Apples. It is a shame that Microsoft does this to their customers, which clearly no longer include me.

I have upgraded two laptops from W7 to W10. After more than a year, not one problem has yet been experienced with either. But I disabled the automatic Windows updates early on. I still have two laptops with W7. I have no plans to upgrade those to W10 as they work fine as-is. I have heard that some owners of W7 computers experienced W10 upgrading without their knowledge. That never happened with me either, but I did get many messages from Microsoft trying to get me to do it, which I just ignored.

I finally was going to install windows 10 before it wasn't free to install anymore. LOL When it tried to install it said my PC {EMachine} was not capable to work with windows 10. I had to laugh. This $300 desk top E-Machine has outlasted all the $700 pc I had before.
I think like some of ya'll that I will go to Mac when this PC quits. Supposedly way less viruses and trojans with Mac.
I also have blasted the heck out of defunct computers. So much for those hard drives.

A c.2004 Mac will not run the latest version of OS X, but the most current OS for them received its last security update in 2011. 7 years still isn't a bad run.
With that said, my office computer was made in 2006 and is running the second most recent version(and running it well).
Apple is now on a rapid 1-year release cycle of releasing new versions of OS X. I don't think comparing 2-3 year releases of Windows to yearly OS X releases is exactly a fair comparison on longevity(although I'd like to see Apple go back to an 18-24 month release cycle).
Every computer made since 2006 can run Snow Leopard or newer. Snow Leopard is still a very useable OS with a lot of software support. It's a good and supported enough OS still that I could "live with it" without much issue.
I'm actually quite happy with the fact that my 2006 Mac Pro hit the 10 year mark with a current OS. The only reason why 10.12(Sierra) won't run is that it requires instruction sets that the CPUs don't support. 10.11(El Capitan) will be supported with security updates until at least 2018. There's 12 years of use.
BTW, I have an laptop from 1999 running an OS that received security updates until 2011. Once again, there's 12 years of use with a current OS, and continued current use with a handful of programs that are maintained by dedicated individuals(like Tenfourfox, which is a web browser for PowerPC Macs that is still maintained by a dedicated individual).
I do have to add the caveat that the two examples I gave above do have hardware upgrades. My Mac Pro has had its processors, disk drive(solid state drive), memory, and video card upgraded. The only one of these strictly necessary was the video card ugprade. The laptop I mentioned has a processor upgrade(G4).
There's also my 1997 PowerMacintosh 8600 that can run OS X Tiger(10.4, supported until 2010) with absolutely bone stock hardware although admittedly it does so poorly. With some hardware upgrades, it runs great and can run Leopard(again, 2011) with some wizardry that I haven't had a chance to tackle.

I shot the heck out of a couple of old "hard drives" I'd kept for target practice the other day.....I was taking some practice shots with the 30.06 & .243 at the firing range. The hard drives make a good target for trying those loooong off-hand shots. If you can hit the hard drive you can easily hit a deer's vitals. After several hits I don't thing that anyone could get much data off 'em.

My 2009 27'' iMac is using macOS Sierra. Better than new. That said, I did add 8gig more RAM and replaced the 1TB hard drive drive with a 4TB. I'm probably one of the few guys with a 4TB iMac in Tennessee. Heck... I got less than 1TB free.
So far I've had very good luck with both PCs and Macs. I just gave away a 2006 Dell Inspiron using XP to parents who said they needed something for their little girl but money was tight. I formatted the drive and reloaded like it was new from the factory. Hope she enjoys it.
Now back to this never ending quest for storage capacity...

I have shot several old hard drives. They have fallen to .45-70, .357 sig. .45acp, .357 magnum, .40, and 9mm. I used to be in charge of disposing of the laptops in the cars when they outlived their service life. They really don't whang very well, just sorta lie there and quiver.
