Handgun safe for SW MP Shield
Will be getting my first handgun in 9 days. Looking for handgun safe recommendations. Currently looking at a Gunvault and the Liberty Safe HD 100. Thanks in advance.

I don't have a handgun safe but my instructor sells a lot of them. He says you have to pay about $200 to get a good high security hand gun safe and the ones that cost less than that work fine as a deterrent but they are easy to break into. If you aren't going to get a high security safe and just need it to be kid proof you can just use a zippered pistol rug with a small padlock on it.

Are you looking for a small safe for use in the home, car, or both?
Our house has a floor safe that was built in when the foundation was poured. I use this safe when we are going to be traveling or away for a while. I also have a smaller safe (two shelves) mounted in one of the closets (bolts screwed into the studs) that I use when we are just out for a while, since it's easier to access. I do have it concealed, so it's not readily visible.
For the car, I bought a small handgun safe similar to the ones you are considering. I use it when we go places where you can't carry (like when I take my wife to see her doctor, whose office is in a hospital.) The safe is fairly heavy metal, but I wasn't satisfied with the cable that it uses to secure it, which could be cut with some heavy duty side-cutters, so I took it to a machine shop and they drilled a hole adjacent to the lock through the top and bottom of the safe for me. I put a heavy duty padlock with an extended haft through both holes, and then one end of a heavy chain is attached to the safe with the haft of the padlock. I put the other end of the chain around the post of the seat frame locked with another heavy duty padlock. The padlock prevents the safe from being pried open, even if you pried open the lock on the safe, and the chain will secure it unless someone has some heavy duty bolt cutters. Most smash and grab thieves don't carry heavy tools, so hopefully this will deter them. When we travel, I can also take this safe inside the hotel/motel and secure it to something in the room, if I need to.
I know there is no perfect way to keep out a determined, professional thief, but I hope that my method will delay a smart thief to the point he will move on, and prevent a dumb one no matter how long he has...which I try to minimize the time. We usually aren't away from the car for more than an hour when we are in the doctor's office, and we park in handicapped spaces at the entrance (because of my wife's disability, we have permanent plates), so I feel pretty secure. When we do go to a restaurant, I usually park where I can see the car if at all possible.

Safe Safes
I'd be inclined to buy a heavy safe, one not easily stolen by a solitary intruder. The safe should be concealed from view and secured to a wall or floor, preferably not in the master bedroom, the first room tossed by a random burglar.
For ready availability, you might want a quick-opening lockbox of some type, near your nightstand. For storage when you're not at home, use the big safe.

Buy the Liberty. Much better quality than Gunvault. I still have two Gunvaults that quit working and I have to use the override key.
These are meant for quick access while keeping the gun out of reach. Not long term storage.

Also, take a look at the ones that use the mechanical push-button "Simplex" lock. They are just as fast to access and will last you many years.
