Another Car Guy Arises
My Grandson is becoming a car guy.
He has gone down to da place on Sat. Morning where the local Lamborghini guys assemble.
I'll probably get him some car books.
Last night we played the 'I'm going to buy you any car you want.'
'Which car do you want?'
After thinking a minute or so, I reply 'I want a Mercedes Gull wing.'
He didn't know what is, so I told him to google it when he got home.
So what car would you like my GS to buy for you?

I will be happy to get ANY car that sells for over a million dollars at Barett Jackson or Mecum auction!
Thank you for asking!

I changed my mind. I'd hate to see another 300sl coming the other way, so please let him know that the Alfa Disco Volante would be preferred.

Way back when, I had a Alfa.
I got to be a better mechanic than I ever wanted to be and invented new profanity.
I have told the tale of voltage regulators going out as fast as I put them in.
In frustration, I Put in a huge ugly Delco Remy.

Maybe a Lancia Stratos would be more reliable?
Probably not...

A Walter Rohrl-spec Audi Quattro S1 would also do nicely.
I have a weakness for the Group B cars...

E Jag - I had seen the pictures, but was not prepared when I saw my very first one in person.
Got to be one of the slickest, sleekest streamlined machines on the planet.
Austin Healey?
One of my old buds used to loan me his down in Ft. Worth.
The heat off that hump would cauterize you leg up to the hip.
And of course it had a tranny situation.
Second was out. Gun it in grandma, quick shift to third.
That could explain why I'm so shifty.
Then I did see the dude get killed out in CA in a Healey.

Dad said, many times, that this was the most beautiful car and colour scheme he had ever seen. I think he was on to something.

...I had a friend...his big brother had an AH 3000 that he swapped a 327 Chevy into...we thought it was cool then...he also had an AH Sprite...and he was going to try to shoehorn a 327 into it...he liked 327s...probably because he had one in his '64 fuel injection Vette ...375 horsepower...4.56 rear gears...we'd run up Lookout Mountain with the speedo hangin' around 70...

...I hope the road stays open to car traffic...but I wouldn't bet on it...new signs say not to park up there after sunset...I wouldn't doubt it ends up bicycle and skateboard friendly only at some point...I used to drive my dump truck down it when I was trying to get around the portable scales the DOT would set up...

Had one of those (Austin-Healy MK II 3000) as a young AOC stationed in Pensacola, Fl. Triple Weber carbs. Loved that car. Got married and you know the rest of the story. Hope to find another one day.

For some reason I can not reply by Quote.
Arjay, I had a 61' 3000 in black, not a blem on it. I was sliding 35MPH S turns at 90 and the left tie rod molding broke off, I ended up hitting a 200' Missouri rock bluff head on at about 70. Probably lucky to live, ruined my left knee and lost my football scholarship. I know Healey's well. Even less about my brain.

Some of you have nice taste in cars. Those of you wanting Isettas or Messerschmitts, not so much. I'll have one of these, with no slats, please.

Since you're being so generous, I'll take a Bugatti Type 57SC (that's underslung (surbaisé), and supercharged). I'd prefer one of the Atalanta coupes, designed by Jean Bugatti, but only four were built and only three survive.
