Default Sorta Glad I don't live in the UK when it comes to handguns

UK-legal pistols. Technically speaking, pistols are apparently legal in the UK as long as they have a barrel longer than 12″ and a total length longer than 24″. Semi-autos are banned unless they are chambered .22 LR. UK target shooters have cooked up some interesting modifications to make their pistols legal.

Taurus 66 .357 revolver with an extra long 12″ barrel and a counter weight attached to the frame.

1911 pistol. It is fitted with a longer barrel and a permanently attached faux suppressor. The counter weight attached to the magazine well increases the total length of the gun (while also balancing the extra weight of the longer barrel and fake suppressor).

Seeing these frankenguns explains why Brits spend so much on rentals at our range.
One group rented an 8 lane bay for the afternoon, and pretty much shot everything in the counter, including full auto's.

we had thought about buying a home in Ireland.. until we learned of their firearms laws.. they are as bad or worse than the laws of the Brits/N. Ireland/Scotland..

Interestingly, suppressors are easy to purchase & own in Great Brit... that probably is a genuine suppressor...you can buy them from stores without permit I understand, as long as you legally own firearms that it would be put on. The Brits were mystified why it's easy to own firearms in the vast majority of our states, but very hard to obtain a suppressor.

In another thread this week someone asked what are the benefits of joining the NRA.

Example (A) as a result of not having the NRA to join.

I read that the 1997 gun law banned over 300,000 legal handguns in the UK. The owners had already dealt with horribly restrictive laws to get them licensed in the first place.

It CAN happen here, and you'd better remember this and what happened in Australia, Canada, and in most of Europe and keep it in mind. I can't discuss politics here, so that's all, folks.

BTW, the 1997 law supposedly doesn't apply to N. Ireland (Ulster) or the Channel Islands.

This video sends a message to all Americans who say "It can't happen here."

Before I came to the US in 1968, I used to shoot both small bore (0.22) and full bore (303 to 38 to 455) depending upon the weapon and shot for both university and local teams. Certainly has changed in 48 years. Dave_n

That's semi auto rifles in .22LR, not pistols, I'm afraid (other calibres it's bolt/slide actions or single shots for rifle shooters). The good old twenty-two handgun is now as extinct in GB as all the rest....

Well that's just it. When the insanity (like the above gun pics and video) is on display it's nearly impossible to fathom such draconian laws or how a society of humans with IQs above room temperature could possibly allow it. Unfortunately... history is rife with horrific examples of misery and death inflicted upon those who allow themselves to be disarmed.

Videos like this were the reason we got the Constitutional Carry & the hard corps stand your ground/castle defense here in Missouri this year. Even though our neighbor Kansas has had both for several years... the doom sayers still said there would be bodies laying in the streets if we got it here in Missouri... thankfully the governor's veto of the bill was over turned & it goes into effect here on Jan 1, 2017 I believe.

VOTE in the coming Election & Join the NRA... We need you now more than ever.... No one ever said we are perfect... but the NRA is the best defense that firearms owners have...

They have nothing equivalent to the 1st, 2nd, or 5th Amendments.

I've known some nice Brits, but I would no more live in the U.K. than I'd live in Syria.

Yeah.....that, and dental care, taxes, weather, food, women, gas prices, etc.

There's a LOT of reasons to be glad one isn't in the U.K.

Having dual citizenship and family in England, I can take any ribbing about the realm but fail to see what you mean about the women.

Enlighten me.

Rusty, I'm sure it's because he'd seen the lovely ladies of the Rep of Ireland & Scotland....after that only the ladies of the US & Canada can compete on equal footing.
