Kroil
I had been looking for Kroil off and on over the years at local gun stores. Thanks to a previous thread I was motivated to order some from Midway.
Since it comes in an 8oz can, what do you use to apply it to small areas of an action? I could transfer some to a small cleaned out oiler I guess. My REM-oil container is almost empty. That would work as well.

To the best of my knowledge the SMALLEST can of liquid Kroil comes in an 8 ounce can with a spout (not 4 ounce) unless they recently started using small 4 oz. cans - and that I am unaware of.
A Hypodermic needle can be used to precisely apply oils - just be careful not to stick yourself. Almost all of us know someone who unfortunately needs to take insulin or an injectable medication and would usually have an extra one.
In general it's NOT recommended to use an old oil can from something else as it's never good to mix chemicals and you always want the label on a can to represent exactly what is in it. I even label my Hypodermics that have various oils in them. Don't expect them to last forever though, after a year or so the rubber get too distorted to seal properly, but they are easy enough to replace.
Kroil is a terrific product that actually works - just get ready to hold your nose. Also be careful where you get it as it will stain clothing, raw wood, leather, etc. Best used outdoors unless you actually like the smell. For its intended purpose I've found no better product!

Thanks for the reply. I edited the size to 8 oz. Midway will ship it this Monday and I had forgotten the volume of the can.
Like many of us, I've used Hoppes for 50 years. Recently I've tried Ballistol and a homemade batch of Ed's Red. My single trigger Browning Citori O/U has an inertia mechanism for changing barrel to be fired and it has a tendency to get sticky after a couple of years of non-use despite my meager oiling. That'll be Kroil's first test.
Hypodermic needle is a good idea.

I have an oiler pen that has Brownells address on it I got as a giveaway when I worked at a gun shop in the late 70's. I still use it and it's easily refillable and gives you one drop pinpoint application. Don't know if they still have it but mine has served me well.
Just checked, they still carry it. Hasn't changed a bit, I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it! May but a few for stocking stuffers!

I've only used the spout on the can it came in. I hate the smell of Kroil, but I've not found a better penetrating oil, which is all I use it for. Some use it for lead and rust removal and some use it for general cleaning, but I hate the smell too much to use it for anything but as a penetrating oil. However, I do use it a lot for that--almost whenever I need to remove screws etc., I put a drop of Kroil on it and let it sit for twenty minutes. Keeps me from buggering up things by using too much force.

People disagree as to which is better penetrating oil, Kroil or PB Blaster. I have both, and have succeeded and failed with both. As far as using either on my guns, I've got several different dedicated gun products to use up. If I'm still alive when I run out, we'll see how Kroil or PB works on firearms.

I have read a lot about Kroil over the years, but have never seen it for sale anywhere. PB Blaster is everywhere. I guess my decision is made for me.

Kroil can be regional, don't look in gun stores but mechanical sections of farm ranch stores. Look for a place that sells clothes for oil field workers.
A quick check on Amazon showed oil pens from $11 to $2.99. They also make a product with a pad on the end for an applicator.

My wife makes me shower & put my clothes in the wash when I come in from using Kroil

Marsh; You absolutely surprised me....Never thought a well read motorcyclist of your degree would not have jumped on Kroil several years ago. I can only suppose that you are still musing over the pointers given in......"Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". ..... :-)
Go to Kroil's web site and buy it there in up to 55 gal. containers. But, IIRC Amazon.com also sells it in slightly smaller. I'm to the point of 'believing' that I just don't reach for anything else but Kroil these days. ......

I have been using the "needle oiler bottles" pictured below with great success. Three bottle sets are available from Brownell's in two sizes . . . the 1 oz set I keep on the workbench and the 1/2 oz set in my range/gunsmith case.
Work great for both Kroil and REM-oil . . . and many other products . . . and allow a single drop or squirt a stream on patches or rags.

You can buy Kroil factory direct from kanolabs.com. they had a sale on where you got two 14oz. aerosol cans for $14.99. Idk if it's still on but a quick check of their website will tell you. I started using the stuff about 25 years ago when I was still in the Plumbing business, nothing freed up sticky valves or frozen parts better!

There are a, 'ton' of small precision oil bottles on Amazon; many of them with needle spouts. Run a product search on Amazon for, 'Precision Oilers'
PS: Amazon has Kroil, too!

I use Kroil daily. It's the best, and the smell isn't bad because IT'S KROIL.

I purchased a S&W 14-4 LNIB from 1980 a couple of weeks ago
that came from an estate. It had the original box, docs, but no
tools. It has a very faint drag line. it probably sat around unused
and the oil in the rear sight hardened up and I couldn't move
either sight adjustment screw. I ordered some Kroil online, and
applied some drops to the rear sight. In less than half an hour
I could move both sight adjustment screws freely. I'm sold! It
does smell funny, but I can live with that.

Brownell's carry's it. I have done wonders with old rifle bores using Kroil, bore paste and a bronze brush.

Been using it for many years. An old local gunsmith put me onto it in the early '80s (back then he'd get it from a machine shop in Billings, Montana). Always have it on hand 'cause it's just the best . And now it's easier to find and buy on-line (just Google Kroil). I just ordered a couple more 8oz. cans. BTW, an 8oz. can goes a long way

Last can of Kroil I bought was the 8 oz. can with the spout. I found it at a LGS about 30 miles up north six months ago or so. I hadn't run out, but I got tired of breaking out the gun maintenance box all the time, and wanted a can for the bench. Interestingly, I just looked at the can, and it's labeled "Industrial Use Only Not for Retail Sale."

Kroil, has been around for quite awhile. All the Mills and Mines
around here had it years ago. Any industrial supply should have
it. We got it in spray cans and 1gallon tins. I know guys that use
it for bore cleaner. Same outfit had another penetrating product
called Kano, but I haven't seen it in awhile.
