Out with the Levi's in with....something else?
Levis Strauss announced that they are banning guns from their stores. Customers wearing them will be asked to leave. This is after a recent incident where a customer who was carrying accidentally discharged a gun in a store.
My favorite jeans are not Levi's anyway.

They used to be all I wore but then they started pricing themselves into the stratosphere and I went to others. I kinda like the Austin brand that I get at Academy these days. Inexpensive and they last.

They are not "telling" you not to, they are "asking" you not to. Big difference.

They have been listed as anti gun for a long time. I quit buying them years ago. The last jeans I bought were Carhart. I actually like them a lot.

I gave up on that company years ago! When they pulled support on the Boy Scouts of America, I gave up on them! I've been buying Schmidt's at TSC for years!

Years ago it was hard to find Levi's that would last as long as they did when I was a kid. Finally figured out they they were using thinner fabric. Then all the other stuff as to ownership and above-mentioned.
Wranglers nowadays.

Politics of the parent company aside, Levi's quality is not what it was decades ago. Their prices have always been high. I do have several pair as fashion statements.
I too have had very good luck with Carhart jeans (and their other clothing). The only place I remember buying Carhart jeans from is Cabela's, but their other clothing can be found at many stores.
Over the last two years I've become impressed by Wrangler products. If you need a relaxed fit jean, their Rugged Wear line is reasonably priced, good quality, and look like standard jeans. If you can fit in a slimmer cut, their Original Cowboy Cut 13 MWZ (Men's Wide Zipper) are a true rigid denim jean that get better with age. They come Sanforized and very stiff when new, but break in slowly and beautifully. I was just thinking about going to Academy today to buy another pair.
I did not know Levi Stauss had stores. Never seen one.

I haven't worn a pair of Levi's or any other denim trousers in 25 years, until last summers "Great Road Trip" when it was suggested I bring a pair of Wranglers. Which I did and I've been enjoying wearing ever since.

If Levi's or any other store for that matter, knows I'm wearing a gun, shame on me.

I've been buying the Academy house brand recently. They fit a bit large compared to the Levis - more like Wrangler, I guess. Decent jeans, and the price is hard to beat. $17.99 for the plain jane ones or 19.99 for the "fancy" styles. No, by fancy I don't mean the girly jeans with the embroidered pockets and tight legs that some of the young fellows are wearing these days.

I have no preference in jeans. As long as the look good and affordable. I don't really care what their politics is either since I've never actually seen one of their stores

They didn't exactly.......
They didn't exactly BAN guns. They asked that people not bring guns into the stores.

I quit wearing Levi's a long time ago. I do not recall the reason. It was before I had any real interest in guns, so that wasn't it.
These days I wear Wrangler Riggs, which have a diamond gusset in the crotch, which makes them really comfortable. It also makes it easier for a short guy to throw a leg over a tall motorcycle. They also have a leather patch at the corner of the right front pocket, the perfect place to clip a knife.
They also offer Riggs in ripstop cotton, which I like even better.

Duluth Trading Company "ballroom jeans" are said to be very good. A friend has been buying them now for a couple years and says they're excellent. I hesitate ordering them online because I'm hard to fit. If I could go to the store and see if they fit I'd probably go with them.

I dumped Levi's when they shortened the fly by about an inch. Too difficult to get to the 'junk'; especially if one's in a hurry. I'm still looking for a replacement brand as I don't need "a skoosh more" in the butt either.

I buy Diamond Gusset jeans exclusively. They are made in the USA and while fairly expensive, they are constructed of very heavy denim and last me for several years.

Wranglers seem to be the brand favored by cowboys!
But I did hear that bullriders and bronc riders were considering Jordache with sequins on the backside to get more gripping surface! 😝

I can't believe we can go 23 posts into this thread and not one person is holding the idiot who had the negligent discharge in the store even slightly responsible. Really!?

As my mother is fond of telling me, I'm not a "fashion plate".
Whatever they sell at Target is more than good enough to wear to the Chinese buffet.

I like jeans and have both Levi jeans and Wranglers, however, I've started wearing five pocket jean cut "sun tans" as my dad used to call them. They fit like jeans but look just a little nicer in a variety of situations. The ones I buy come from Costco and wear the Kirtland brand.
As far as stores banning ccw goes, it's interesting that a business open to the public would choose to deny a constitutional right based on a single incident.

This brings up a subject that has very different points of view. When I carry concealed it is because open carry frightens the masses. I never have a chamber loaded carry piece. I would rather be perforated by some bad guy than accidentally shoot some stranger. I have witnessed many dangerous carry situations over the years. Nobody has yet to mention the guys bad gun handling skills and the poor gun safety and the potential maimed or killed bystanders. These types of incidents will get us back to the days of no carry anywhere anytime.

It's what's called "magical thinking". In that alternate reality, a sign will stop somebody bent on committing murder from carrying a gun to do so.

- How will you "accidentally shoot some stranger" with a holstered firearm?
- How would you carry a five shot revolver? With an empty chamber under the hammer, giving you a "four shooter"?
- Would you rather have an assailant disarm you while you're trying to load an unloaded gun, and shoot you with your own firearm, then possibly turn it on other innocent victims?
I suspect you haven't really thought this out...

Levi Strauss has been anti-gun for about 30 years now. I started wearing Wranglers back then or the Wal-Mart brand.
I seldom wear blue jeans anymore; I started wearing 5.11 cargo trousers in Afghanistan and brought home several pair. I pocket carry a Colt Agent and have a HKS speedloader in a cargo pocket.

Although a lot of people wear jeans to work (I work in a tech support call center), I never do. None of the consulting companies I've ever worked for allowed it.
I wear jeans on the weekends, since I don't go anywhere more upscale than bookstores and Golden Corral. My Smith 36 fit comfortably in the front pocket of my jeans. Now I carry a 3 1/2" M1911 and have to use a tuckable IWB.

I don't understand your point...mine is that no one has called out the clown who had the negligent discharge trying on a pair of pants in a store. This kind of thing is a gift for the anti-gun lobby. Meanwhile, we're deciding we don't need Levis because we can still buy Wranglers. That's not exactly doing any damage control for the cause, is it?

I didn't cause any "damage", so there's nothing for me to "control".
To hear you tell it, I have a DUTY to give Levi's my money.
They have the right (at least in Ohio) to bar me from entering their stores while armed. I in turn have the right to spend my money elsewhere. Or do you disagree?

I promise you that's not the point I'm trying to make.
The point I'm trying to make is that a negligent discharge in a public place like a Mall makes a large segment of the population not feel safe around guns and gun owners. That's the larger picture about what is unfortunate about this story.
It has nothing to do with where you choose to buy your pants.

The letter is a request not to carry in their stores, not a ban. Levi Strauss Banned Guns From Stores? : snopes.com The fellow that had the accidental discharge in one of their stores shot himself. Jeans too tight I suppose. Back to the discussion of the best replacement jeans if you want to dump Levi's anyway.

And I don't see anyone demanding they shut down their stores. I do vote with my wallet. I won't stand outside a store protesting, I will simply find an alternative to shop at. They are free to have their own political and social opinions, and can express them if they want to.
I work in a sign shop. We did some Hildebeast signs. I had no problem with it, just took that little bonus to the ammo store. I love buying gun stuff with liberals money.
Switched to the Magellan jeans from Academy a while back. Half the price of Levi's and seem to last just as long or longer. Plus, you can pick up some ammo when you get your jeans.

All good questions I will try to answer.
I know of a half a dozen guns go off in the holster. A friend still carries a 22 bullet in his leg from an early Ruger that discharged as he was holstering it. A fellow guide on the adjoining lease shot himself in the leg with a holstered Colt SSA when the axe handle he was using to cut kindling, hit the hammer. I have seen a number of used holsters that had bullet holes in them. A fellow worker of mine shot himself in the posterior with a Ruger 44 magnum when he hit a ditch while chasing a jackrabbit in his pickup, and came down and sat on it, and I think it was still in the holster but do not know for certain. Of course the fast draw craze in the 50's left many a wounded soul including the former president of our gun club. He failed to clear the holster before the gun went off. I have seen so many poor carry situations. When running our gun show, the door man accused us of being cowards because we as security did not chamber. He then chambered a Star single action 9mm I had sold him earlier and holstered the gun. The problem with a lot of us older fellows, we have muffin tops, including John. He then proceeded to bend over several times and play with a dog. Problem was the gun was pointing directly at a 17 year old girl every time he bent over and his muffin top was putting a serious squeeze on both the hammer and safety.
The answer to question number 2 you answered yourself. I carry 4 rounds in my model 36.
Question number 3 is an interesting question. I choose to be aware at all times. I smelled a grizzly bear before I saw him so I had already chambered a round in my model 71 though I did not need it. You have a valid point but concealed carry how would an assailant know you were carrying. The answer is not black or white on this issue. I have lead a very colorful and exciting life but so far I have not been caught unaware, YET.
The one thing everyone should be aware of is, where is the muzzle of your gun pointing at all times. When sitting, standing or squatting. I watched a man open carrying a cocked and locked, I hope, 1911, in a butt forward holster without a safety strap. He sat in a chair in our restaurant and proceeded to hook the gun on the chair when he raised up to get the salt, he fiddled with it continually as it was apparently uncomfortable, and all the time it was pointed at a family sitting behind him. They got up and left without finishing their meal. Though I do not know for certain, I believe I just witnessed a new anti gunner being made that day.
And for the last statement, on this you are dead wrong as I think out everything I do or say. So much so, the people I claim as friends accuse me of over thinking everything.
As I stated in my first post this is a subject everyone has an opinion on and one that few are willing to change their mind on. Isn't this a great forum where we can exchange ideas and opinions without the usual internet bickering and sniping at people who do not agree with our point of view?

The point I'm trying to make is that a negligent discharge in a public place like a Mall makes a large segment of the population not feel safe around guns and gun owners. That's the larger picture about what is unfortunate about this story.
It has nothing to do with where you choose to buy your pants.

I neither had a negligent discharge in Levi's nor did I train the person who did.
He has about as much to do with me, and I have about as much control over him, as I did with the Somali slasher at OSU.

[quote=30-30remchester;139357216]I know of a half a dozen guns go off in the holster.
None of which appear to have anything to do with normal carry of a modern D/A revolver or semi-auto.
I don't carry a single action revolver for self-defense, nor would I ever.

That's your right.
It's might right to consider that simply absurd. If you have that much distrust of modern firearm, you probably ought to consider not carrying at all. Certainly you've chosen to give any potential assailant... or GROUP of assailant's an unnecessary advantage. Again, your choice, albeit a foolish one.

One can be BOTH "aware" AND unprepared. If you expect that every assailant is going to announce his intention BEFORE he becomes your assailant you're fooling yourself.
Self-defense with a LOADED firearm is hard enough. Adding unnecessary handicaps makes no sense.
