Default Ordering things online...

I order things online quite frequently and appreciate the fact that I've always gotten a tracking number in an email so I could retrieve the package as soon as possible.Doorstep theft is a problem everywhere and especially this time of year.

I had placed an order from Cajun Power Sauce last week and on Monday it showed shipped.I have yet to receive an email with a tracking number.I don't even know if it's being delivered by drone, tortoise or snail mail.

I sent the company an email saying that I was surprised and a little dismayed that they didn't provide a tracking number.Never got a response.I'm not in any way po'd and this isn't a rant.I guess I just kind of thought that most/all companies provided followup information.

I initially got two emails thanking me for registering and one for my order but not one for saying it was shipped and how it would arrive.I found out it was shipped by going to their webpage.Go figure!

What are your thoughts? Do you even care?

I don't order anything over the internet. Which brings up a new thread.

I much prefer a tracking number; and I check them like a child checks for the sound of Santa's reindeer on Christmas eve, but only about half my on-line buys has a tracker.

Most of my purchases I buy online, can usually get the best price and save on taxes. I appreciate tracking #'s and free shipping.

I agree with the bolded! As far as buying on line other than getting a gun from a member here I do as little as I can. Of course this transaction also included FFL info sent and a check or MO payment to the seller, gun sent to a FFL so its not a 100% on line.

My MO is to look at a companies website, get info/price THEN get their normally 800 type number and give them a call. I'm not comfortable giving out credit card info on the internet and much prefer a phone call to a human.

Nope, I don't care. I thought that was a funny line to put in a post, and got a good chuckle out of it. Seriously, I am curious how it turns out. I find myself ordering online more often than before, and so far so good. Wishing you well with this one. I do care.

I do a lot of online shopping-saves time, gas and by shopping around, I generally do better than break even. Reputable places are out there, but as with many things, if it's too good to be true, well

There's a UPS truck circling Albuquerque right now with a 1,000 rounds of my 22 ammo. Thank you Cabela's!
It was scanned out locally at 4 AM this morning and it's somewhere around here.
Lately I get shipments in the dark.
Time will tell!

Back to the OP -
Is this a USPS shipment?
You only get delivery confirmation and a tracking number if you pay extra.

Update - UPS was here!

Since I shoot a lot of uncommon ammo, I order it on the net.
Some accessories are not easily available out here in the boonies, so they also get bought over the net.

I do a ton of online buying but I rarely order anything I got to have right away.

Tracking a package can be more aggravation than it's worth, particularly if the carrier is the USPS. Even worse when is when it's UPS Mail Innovations-- now that can be downright irritating. It'll travel across country on UPS in a day or two but when USPS gets a hold of it locally it falls into in a black hole.

I've evolved into a it'll get here when it gets here online buyer. Lowers the blood pressure... works for me.

We do lotsa ordering online. Mostly from Amazon.
Out where we live it's either do that, do lotsa driving searching for stuff or do without.
In fact, I just ordered a replacement ballast for our kitchen light.

In this age of electronic communication, it is amazing, to me at least, how many companies are very bad about returning email communications. I love email because it provides me with prove that communication has taken place, and what that communication was. I burned a few people with that when I was still working when they tried to back peddle on something.

Any rate, try telephoning them, as many companies will answer the phone hoping it's another order. But even that's not 100% effective, and some companies don't answer their phones either. Failure by a company on either of these two types of communication moves them to my "Do not buy from" list.

Once you've waited 6 - 8 weeks for your official Roy Rogers club membership, you no longer need your hand held every step of the way for things to arrive.

I do like tracking, but it's not a big deal at all if there isn't one. The stuff will come, or if it doesn't within a reasonable time, I'll call. It kills me when I see people ordering online, calling right away to confirm, calling or emailing again if something doesn't "seem" right.

As someone here used to (or still does?) have in their tagline - "Relax, you'll get a more harmonious outcome."

You mean like Ralphie in The Christmas Story.
After waiting for weeks, he finally got his Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring.
He locked himself into the bathroom and franticly decoded as his Mother screamed at him from the hall.
Finally he got it.
The message said Drink Be Sure To Your Ovaltine.

Tracking doesn't always work. I've seen may instances of packages appearing "lost" for days, no interim scans, and then the packages suddenly show up on my door step. In the end, its the total length of time between the shipper shipping the item and your getting it. I would not sweat it until too long a period of time elapses between shipping and receiving the item.

Use internet to order lot's of stuff.
Some take longer if UPS or FEDEX.
USPS has it in N.J. one day and next day in WA!
Not bad at all.

Yup.. Today I got notice the three packages were out for delivery
Two showed up.. the third one was never in the mail box..

Took a trip to the Post Office which is not far away.
Come to find out that the postman hits the DELIVERED button as soon as he pulls into the subdivision..
so it will show all packages delivered but he may not show up at the house for and hour or so. "it's probably still in the truck should be delivered tomorrow" was the answer.GRRRRRRRR

Sent a USPS ten days ago for car parts. It has not gotten to the seller yet! Their MO an their stamp. Sad. Now the fun of trying to get my money back from them. Buy lots of things online no tax free shipping is nice. New tennis shoes new roper boots.

First off it's only about 1200mi. from Denver to Abbeville and that's following a drunk crow.I've ordered things from the East coast that got here quicker.

With regards to not getting a reply on my email I can only assume that the one person who can read or write is on vacation.

They only request that you phone them when the problem is "urgent".That's why I sent the email which went to the order department's email address.

I've gotten products that were sent via USPS and they had a tracking number.I had one instance where it was out for delivery and I knew the time that the Postal worker comes in my area so I waited for him.I watched him drive right past my house.I went down the corner to get my mail and instead of a package there was a slip saying the package was undeliverable.I had to go to the P.O. the next day to retrieve it.

I've ordered ammo from a company that apparently waited until they had enough orders to make the drop at UPS.Once I figured out their method it only took 3days instead of a week (or more) to receive my order.

I forget which webpage it was on but there was something that struck me as really odd.You are typing in all the info they request...name...address...email address...credit card info...etc. and at the bottom you have to type in what you see in a box. It's normally to make sure it's a human placing the order and not one of those computer generated bots.So you can't give me a tracking number but you're afraid that some computer is able to place an order for 5 individual items and type in all of the required info to complete the order. What a crock!!

I usually order on line and then forget I ordered something, And then get surprised when I get it....
After dealing with VA for years I've learned patience....

I think ordering online is great for Christmas. No need to go shopping, stand in lines for giftwrapping or wrap it yourself. No need to package it up and take it to the post office. Just spend an hour or so in your chair ordering up stuff for everyone and presto! You're done!

Heck yeah, I do online shopping!

I order online quite a bit. It is aggravating, but not all online sellers provide tracking numbers to their customers.

I order most of my ammo and Christmas presents online. Looks like I have 3 boxes coming Tuesday and two on Thursday next week. from Cabelas, Amazon, Alien Gear, Newegg, and Sears. That finishes off my Christmas buying for this year.

From the link that Rule3 posted...

Quote:
Thank you for your order! Your order is usually sent out within 2 days or less although please know that quality is of utmost importance and sometimes we may have a slight delay on some products. You can always call us to check on inventory and to get a friendly hello!
There should be a FAQ page or something to tell you what's going on.It's even more reason to keep the customer informed. If something isn't in inventory then it's a backordered item. You take my money up front and expect me to accept your shortcomings? It's all about communication and nothing else!

This reminded me of the thread posted by the ammo vendor who wondered why some people go through the order process only to back out and leave.Just as a heads up to others...A $35 order cost me $13.50 in shipping.I know it's my problem but I also know I'll probably never use this company again.I should've backed out.

Still waiting...Don't know how it's coming so don't know where to look.

Still no reply to my email either.Maybe I should call and tell them to check their spam folder.

Looked up their address on a map app...looks like a mom and pop operation outside of town.

Yesterday got a tilt email from what is apparently a small mom- pop operation.
Since Lately I have been shooting more 22 autos I ordered a magazine loader.
The loader company sent my device to a wrong undeliverable address.
It could be my error, but I have correctly sent my address to any number of other folks.
So I'm betting it was their mistake.
But they did email me so maybe I'll get it this time.
It's a credit card purchase - if I don't get it, I ain't paying for it!
Guarantee!

Unless I absolutely have to have it today, I rarely go in a store. I'm in the "it'll get here when it gets here" camp. I have everything I need here, and can wait for anything I want.

Well the shipment arrived on Saturday.Sorry to make it look like I was making a mountain out of a molehill but when I spend good money on something I want to know where it is.I also like to see how parts of the transportation industry operates.Anyhow, they shipped it via UPS to Denver where it was turned over to our illustrious postal workers.

The amount of styrofoam popcorn in the box probably accounted for half the shipping expense. It'll probably be a while before I find all the pieces that flew out when I opened the box.

Just made 5qts. of chili and have a rack of ribs thawing so I'm not sure what to try these spices on first.Hopefully it's good stuff.I have no idea what "Cajun" tastes like but I'll find out soon enough.

I just ordered a pair of Lucchese boots online from a company that has a store just a few miles from me. There was a $20 off promo code for ordering online, so I saved the $20 and will be happy to wait for the free UPS delivery. I remember mail order in the pre-Internet days. Tracking number... what's that?

I too do a significant amount of internet shopping. OK, most everything except boots, tennis shoes and some clothing. My reasons mirror others that have already been posted plus the avoidance of sales clerks who fail to have more than one brain cell. Surprisingly I get a lot of tracking numbers but then loose track of them...therefore at various time's it like a year round Christmas. Except when unavoidable (ammo. etc.) most of my shipping goes to a secure secondary location. No worries if we travel or get busy it's there when I finally remember. Sorry, what was I saying earlier about brain cells???? hardcase60

I would never buy boots or shoes online. Even if they say they are quadruple E I would probably guarantee they would not fit. I usually just wear the boxes

Shoe size does not change much over time. If shoes do not fit it's either you do not know your size or the manufacturer is not sizing true. Regardless, online shoe purchases should be made with free shipping and free return. I have bought shoes online without the free return option, but knew the exact shoe I was buying and knew it was a perfect fit and great deal. Why is there a difference between getting a good shoe fit online as opposed to a good fit on jeans? I've bought shoes mail order since back in the 20th Century and cannot figure out why folks have such problems getting shoes that fit.

All I order online is thru Amazon and everything has a tracking number. However it it comes FedEx smartpost or UPS mail innovations you can't rely on the tracking after they dump it with USPS.

I'm pleased that you have such great success. Sorry you can't understand "why folks have such problems getting shoes that fit".

My apology to the OP, it was not my intention to hijack your thread. Regards, hardcase60

..it's not anticipation of arrival as it is anticipation of something going awry.

I'm glad that more and more vendors are supplying the tracking number.

I rarely if ever get shipping notices, even for my $9000 per month chemo med that comes by UPS. If I don't follow up on the UPS site, I know nothing.

Even if I ask to require a signature, it will wind up at the complex office, and no one cares to tell me it is there.

I worry less about the ammo than being alive to shoot it.

I'll probably regret asking this but if that's your shoes then what's rest of your wardrobe look like?

The amount of styrofoam popcorn in the box probably accounted for half the shipping expense. It'll probably be a while before I find all the pieces that flew out when I opened the box.

Just made 5qts. of chili and have a rack of ribs thawing so I'm not sure what to try these spices on first.Hopefully it's good stuff.I have no idea what "Cajun" tastes like but I'll find out soon enough.
We expect a full report on it. BTW: real cajun starts out mild and tasteful when it hits your taste buds, but quickly escalates to a three alarm fire. Not a 5 alarm like real Texas chili, but an honest 3 alarm that stays with you a while. That's just one of the things I learned in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Here in Cleveland, if you want photographic equipment not available at Walmart or Target, you're going to order it online.

There's basically ONE camera store chain in Cleveland, and they keep closing locations. There's one little independent out in Avon near the new Cabela's, but they can only stock so much.

There's quite literally NO place local I can buy a 55mm to 49mm macro stacking ring in NE Ohio. It's either Amazon (or somebody else online) or NOTHING.

Books are even worse. There's NO place to buy a Collector Grade gun book, not even at gun shows here anymore. Squadron-Signal aircraft books? You're driving to Wright-Patterson AFB, or Norwalk... if the hobby shop there is still open.

There are just some things not available in some places.

This morning at about 6:30am I was getting ready for work and my son for school. We heard a truck outside, and my kid said somebody is on the front porch. I went to check. Oddly enough it was a driver from the Post Office. He delivered two of the boxes I was expecting. Tracking had them both being delivered tomorrow.

I've never seen the Post Office (or anyone other than the newspaper for that matter) deliver stuff that early. They must be trying to stay ahead of the holiday rush.

Everybody complains about the Post Office, but I say that's pretty darn good service.
