Took this picture of candles on a table at a dinner celebrating a granddaughter's wedding in Santa Fe a couple of weeks ago.

Bisbee, Arizona has its own means of social networking, and it's been in existence since the late 1800s. Here's the hub of the network.

What do you suppose the snake was swallowing? Any idea? I can't tell.

I have a Canon EF 100-400 IS that is my main lens. On this particular day I had added my EF 1.4x II extender to it, making it a effective 560mm with the same close focus distance as the 400mm. With my 50D bodies I could not use autofocus but the 80D allows autofocus with the center focus point. The camera was set to Aperture priority (F8), AI Focus, evaluative metering, auto white balance and auto ISO. It did very well with those settings and the pictures that had noticeable noise were fixed in Photoshop using a plugin called NoiseControl. Since I do this for fun and not for money I don't worry too much about digital noise artifacts.

Numbers on that hummer photo were F8, 1/1000 second and ISO 500. The Butterfly pic was F8, 1/1000 and ISO 400.

ETA:

Oh yeah, I think the fish that cottonmouth was trying to eat was a catfish.

Out on the ranch, the original Survey markers were Dinosaur Fossils as that was the only rocks they could find in that part of the country.

They scraped the information into the rock and dropped them out of the wagon load they had with them.

I have that same lens, probably one of the first ones Canon made. I used it to make this photo. Also had my El Cheapo Tamron 1.4 extender attached.

I like the lens, of course, except I don't like the push/pull to change focal length. And I wish it were a faster lens. I mean, f/5.6 is okay, but f/4 would be even better.

Thanks for all the exposure data. And I'm confident the snake finally finished swallowing the fish.

Oh, and my favourite all around lens is Canon's 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens. It pretty much stays on one of my cameras.

Harvey about 10 hours before it started coming into the house. Lucky the steady hard rain quit then or I would have been tearing out drywall and flooring again.

An Hawaiian flower that I encountered on a hiking trail on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. I thought the textures and contrasting shapes merited a black and white photo in the style of the old photographic masters.

Vortex formed in the Rio Grande reservoir from temp differential after the first good cold front of the season went through. That was the year I decided to find the headwaters of the Rio Grande while on vacation alone in Colorado.

I have a long-time friend and classmate from grade school and high school who has owned a long succession of classic cars from the '50s. I took this pic yesterday during our high school reunion. This is his very nice 1956 Chevy - not completely stock, but still really special.
