This is mom looking at a British tea towel with the Royal Family's ascension timeline. It was a gift from Fred.
A little backstory: The love of Fred's life, Genie, passed away five years ago last month. Fred decided that he was finally ready to go through Genie's things he had packed away. The instant he saw the tea towel he thought "I know who this is going to".
Mom was moved by the thought behind the gift and the touching note Fred sent with it.
Thanks, amigo.

In New Mexico, when you say King, most folks think your referring to Gov.
Bruce King.
But once upon a time we had another ‘King.’
He lived in the rather remote town of Roy, NM.
So he could have been the King of NM Swing before he became the
King of Western Swing.

I went for another short ride the other day with a good friend.
The Forest Service's Trail Crew spent the better part of last week removing the "hazards" from one of the "extreme" ATV trails and I was asked to go check it out and report back what I thought about the trail.
Its called Rock Canyon for some reason.
Its the only trail that I am aware of here that was ever rated extreme.
I do beleive that they have removed the "extreme" from the trail.
The Forest Service purchased an electric jack hammer and take a generator out with them in a trailer so they can bust up the big rocks that can't be moved.
Still a fun trail.
Fall is here already.
First time on this trail for me.
It was another nice day riding.

I got out for another short ride yesterday.
This is a "50" gate". There are a lot of trails here that are restricted to machines that are 50" wide or less.
This is the Max Reid Trail. One of the more popular trails.
Yesterday was the perfect day to ride this trail. The temperature was cool and the rain the day before
eliminated the dust and with the leaves changing it made for a great ride.
Once at the top of Max Reid we headed for trail 1095.
It doesn't show up really well but the first section of this trail is
really off camber. Regardless of how many times I go here it still
makes my butt pucker crossing this section.
This is the end of this trail. Its just over two miles long but its well worht the ride.
Pictures never show just how steep trails are. This is a very steep section.
This trail is never maintained by the Forest Service so every
time you go up it there's a good chance there are trees that
have fallen and blocking the trail.
Headed back across the off camber section.
We finished the ride with the Bonanza Jones Road. Built in the 1940's for logging at the infamous Kimberly Mining Town.

I didn't take this photo, but thought it fun. This rat named Magawa was awarded this life saving medal by a British organization.
It was trained to sniff out buried mines, and is credited with saving lives in former conflict zones by finding deadly mines and working with human handlers in clearing mine fields.

These are awesome ATV trailers. Its a Boski 1600 UT ATV Wagon.
They will carry up to 1100 lbs, electric screw dump with a handlebar mounted switch and electric brakes on the front axel.
You need to be careful how much you load into it because dry it weighs 600 lbs. Fully loaded they are tough to tow on trails.
Here's a video from a few years ago when we hauled roadbase for trail maintenance. This is my friend using his ATV Wagon.

Was next door visiting with our neighbor and heard all kinds of bird related noise happening in our back yard. Two Carolina chickadees and two Carolina wrens were bouncing around in the Texas mountain laurel next to the back fence. When I took a look in it on the way back into our yard I found this little one. About 8 inches tall, a eastern screech owl. Definitely the first seen in our yard, although I have seen a few around the neighborhood over the years.

Took a short ride the other night with some friends. This is my all time favorite trail.
Mineral Fork in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
This trail is about 200 miles from where I live and from the bottom to the top is only
5.3 miles and you come back down the same trail.
It bummed me out that I filled my garbage sack before I ever left the trailhead.
Best 50" gate I've ever seen. There's no getting around this one in bigger machines.
Its difficult for a few of the longer 50" SxS.
Way cool. I wonder what purpose it served.
The last stretch going up to the top.
After fixing dinner up on top we headed back down.
The End

Booger shows off her new "do!"
During this pandemic, I've been reluctant to go anywhere near a barber shop. I was really getting shaggy, so I asked my wife to grab the beard trimmer on my electric razor and go to work on me. Didn't turn out too bad - at least I don't look like old man Mose from the mountains any more...
At any rate our dog "Booger" was getting pretty shaggy herself; she's never been to one of those prissy grooming parlors, and it was getting a little dicey seeing, eating and drinking. So, we administered a field trim and it revealed a whole new dog.
She wanted to show off her new haircut for you. The first pic is from Sept. 14, and the second is from Oct. 7 - today. I told her I'd post her pictures for everyone to admire - so here goes!

I made this for my sons to use in the backyard. It also works well for practices where there isn’t a mound available.
I copied it from pictures of one I saw on Etsy. What do you think?

My wife and I had our wedding anniversary so we wanted to get out a bit.
So we stayed in state and went to a nice hotel. Place was super clean and had lots of preparation for Covid. Outdoor dining and everything else. The weather held pretty well for a New England mid October.
Pics from our room
In the distance is Hammonasset State park, first time we went to it very very nice with two miles of beach front. Place has an interesting history from Winchester testing grounds to WW2 fighter live bombing runs.
I think that is Faulkner Island in the distance.
If it wasnt hazy you could see Long Island NY in the distance.
Looking down Long Island Sound toward NY.
The tent was being set up for a wedding. They had an outside wedding on the beach! On what was the same Saturday as we were married! (date was off a day or two)

This is a shot of the street where I used to live in Phoenix as a boy, taken at sunset during the Christmas season. The candelarias are a tradition there that started in the 1940s and continue to the present day. I make a special visit there every year. It brings back many pleasant memories and warms my heart.

Not Quite Like "Combat Fishing" on the Kenai...
But almost!
This is the river bank across from our place. Seen lots of salmon jumping, but I still haven't seen one landed.

Caught Marine One departing the area after the President's rally here today. Pardon the ****** pic, but it was at pretty extreme range for my little 250mm lens.
