I took Mom to visit her old Master naturalist buddies at the park where she worked for almost 20 years. While she was sitting and watching them work on the demonstration garden I went around and snapped a few shots. These are some of the better ones.

There is a lot of relief to be found in hanging around nature. My gf would probably be a basket case if it wasn't for the "distraction" of tending her garden

Mom used to be both a Master Naturalist and a Master Gardner. Both groups gave her lifetime memberships and other such honors but the dementia has taken away all her knowledge of such things. It really stinks to see such a big part of her life drift away from her.

My gf's late mother, who died at 94 last summer, was a very keen gardener, and although she was lucid right to the end, physical disability caused her to "lose the will to live". Her garden and her cat (one of a long line of felines) meant everything to her. It is indeed very hard to witness this.

My gf has inherited both characteristics in spades, as various photos I've posted here attest. When we listed the house for sale, my gf sent the realtor pictures of her mum's garden when it was really cared for which probably helped to sell it.

Sarah and Ray recently bought a 3-D printer. Their first test run produced these magnetic tea bag dispensers for the fridge door.

My heart goes out to you John.
That's my wife. Her beautiful garden has been featured in a national magazine and on a local TV show. About seven years ago, she could rattle off the common and Latin botanical names of all 212 varieties of our permanent flowers, trees and shrubs, all of which she laid out, then swung the pick, dug the holes, amended the soil and tended them lovingly for about 15 years. Now the poor soul knows a rose is pretty, but can't even name its color.
It's like she's on a raft at the edge of the ocean, drifting away, now nearly out of my sight. I can see her, talk to her, but she can't hear me, doesn't answer, and there isn't a damned thing I can do about it.
It's hard.

Default Got spots?

From a picture gallery on why we photograph animals. ("Because they're there", as mountain climbers are wont to say.)

Dalmatian puppies, from the series Dog Gods, 2010

I seem to be in a Ford Rut!
Just posted the Tri motor and this pops up.
What it is? Colt New Service?
I’ve seen a few other pics of their campouts, this is the first one I’ve seen with a Firearm.
‘Between 1916 and 1924, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and John Burroughs embarked on a series of camping trips. They called themselves the Vagabonds, but they camped in style. Numerous support staff set up and took down camp, cooked, took photographs, and maintained the cars and equipment trucks.’

I've seen a number of pics of their campouts, and always found it a bit jarring to see them lounging about in weeds and grass in three piece suits.

While walking I noticed this set out to the curb for trash. On my return leg the pickers had already snagged it.

JR's hopes were dashed.

Knockout roses. They are supposed to be pruned and cut down to -12 inches each spring but I skipped that part this year. Then the roses came and then the missus commented how nice they are and just couldn’t hack em.
More roses popped out since about a week ago.
Seems like no one else around here trims them either.
