Photo from around 1935 with my grandfather seated on the combine with his horse team. Also pictured are my great uncles. Grandpa bought a Ford tractor after WW2 an converted the combine for the tractor. I fondly remembering helping grandpa as a kid in the 1960's with the oat sheaves in the field and helping with the thrasher separating the grain from the straw. As the smallest, I was volunteered to be in the grain bin, shoveling the oats in the bin until there was no more room at the ceiling.

I really like this thread. There's not much telling what you might see when you look inside this one.

I made this photograph years ago.

Alvin would show up every day and sit in my hand eating his lunch. What he didn't eat, he would stuff in his cheek pouches, then scurry off to put the peanuts in his den, saving them for another day. He often made several trips.

It always amazed me that this little animal would sit in my left hand while my right hand was pointing a big black camera at him from just inches away, and making a loud click each time I'd press the shutter button.

The text is something I remember from somewhere years and years ago, possibly a greeting card. It seems relevant here, so I added it to my photograph.

I am lucky to have a 6 year old granddaughter that LOVES to bake.
She usually comes and spends a day with us once a week.
This week, she decided to make her favorite for me,, chocolate chip cookies.

Grandma ran the Hobart mixer, Anna did the rest!!

OH,,, how I suffer,,,,,,,

Yum! Does she need another grandfather? I think it was Oscar Wilde who said, "I can resist any temptation except temptation, itself." Makes me want to head out for the bakery. Good thing they're closed for the night. You aren't suffering, either...who you think you're foolin'?

I recently took a train trip across the USA and snapped this sunset in California. It made the train look like it was plated with gold. (But, being Amtrak, we know that's not the case!)

The most curious and friendly fawn I ever encountered. Mom and a sibling passed through my front yard at least twice a day. This one was intrigued by me, and it really upset mom.

Default Mt. St Helens Spirit Lake

Here's Spirit lake with the deadfall from the eruption still floating in the lake. It's the mass in the upper left arm of the lake.

Where the logs are in the lake depends on which way the wind blows.

Among my many hobbies are collecting Franklin and Danbury Mint cars. I made some props to take pictures of them, using pictures from calendars as back drops. Here's a few:

A very gravid female praying mantis on a weed head near my farm house. I don't cut or pull the weeds in the flower beds or the hedgerows in the fall, since mantis and other critters rely on the cover to lay egg cases, for food, etc.

I have really noticed lots of mantis this year. I love to watch them.

Just got back this afternoon from a week down in the Rio Grande Valley with Mom and one of her other Master Naturalist friends. I have about 500 pictures to go through in Photoshop but I picked one from the first day to post here. A tri-colored heron with a nicely positioned palm tree in the background giving some accent to it.

For those interested in the particulars:

Canon 80D
Canon EF 100-400 1:4.5-5.6 L IS lens
Canon EF 1.4x II extender giving a 560mm with this pic
F11, 1/800 sec, ISO500

This is the rotunda ceiling of the New Mexico state capitol building in Santa Fe. I thought it made a nice abstract photo.

Another one from our trip. Not sure what kind of beetle but the combination of the textures on the beetle's back and the seeds on the flower it was on worked really well.

The distinctive shield shape makes me think it's a type of (seriously, now) stinkbug.

My favorite place....
Random Object Photographs-carson-river-sunset-2-jpg

Meadow Lake. I like the eerieness of the dead trees and darkness. There are no meadows anywhere near here. Perhaps it was a meadow before PGE dammed it?

Here's a shot of the gallows right beside the old Tombstone, Arizona Cochise County courthouse. There are a number of politicians I think might deserve to walk up those 13 steps and meet their maker - and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Same goes for soldiers who desert their posts to go over to the enemy side. Just sayin'.

A tribute to "Chumly". He loved to sleep, hunt small game, lick plastic bags, and beat up his brother. He passed away in August at 8 years of age.

A bit of a brag here. I had been after this derelict for about 10 years. I finally made a deal with the lady that owned it and trailered it down from WA to AZ. The before and after pics.

That is NOT me in the picture. It's a chap who helped me load it out.

Finally finished all my pics from the trip down to the Rio Grande Valley yesterday. I thought I would post one or two of my favorites from each day, putting them up once a day. Here is my favorite from day 1.

Alligator eye.
