Pic from today of my gf's garden in Bellingham WA, aka "Still life with cat."

Random Object Photographs-sandra-fall-garden-jpg

She has just bought a mini drone just so she can get aerial shots of the garden. But she's too close to the airport to launch it w/o approval from the FAA, which she's desperately hoping will come before the garden is past its fall prime. (UPDATE: Authorization arrived on Oct. 15, so now waiting for some decent weather.)

It's all about the timing, right?

I was fortunate to capture this one. I think it's cool.

That's a nice mix of colors and textures - I hope she gets her pics.

That mix is what she has been working on, aiming for a 'three season" garden that is only dormant in winter. Being just below the 49th helps.

She got clearance from the FAA today (Friday) so now she just has to figure out how to update the drone's firmware to allow it to operate.... and then wait for decent weather, which could be the middle of next week as we're in "drench" mode at the moment. (If the "atmospheric river" that is predicted for the Vancouver, British Columbia area materializes this weekend, I think there will be a lot of frantic googling for "How to Build an Ark" and a run on gopher wood.)

And speaking of "still life with cat" (garden pic on previous page), she sent me this pic tonight of him- Izzie, brother of "Epic Whiskers Charlie" who has been seen here before:

Went on my daily walk on the greenway. Snakes, copperheads in particular abound there, and they are extremely hard to see in leaf cover, so always looking out while walking.

Cabela's Gun Library yesterday.

The ammo supply there at Cabela's, and at Palmetto State Armory was almost nonexistent.

A Blast from the Past.
Not sure how many places like this ever existed in the past.
Reported to be in Vaughn, NM.

Default Got the drone launched today

She managed to get the drone aloft for the first time today, after some hassle with getting the FAA permissions sorted out on launching. She's limited to 101' by FAA rules for her location; she went to about 98' which was enough to fit in her approx, 80 x 80' garden without intruding on the neighbors' privacy. She found the nominal 30 min. fly time was quite a bit less when shooting 4k video but she figures she'll be fine at lower resolution.

For a first flight she said it went pretty well, but one thing she didn't expect was having the drone dive-bombed by hummingbirds! No collisions but it was scary.

I can't link to the video, but here's a screen shot. She is the tiny white object at bottom centre, in front of a raised bed. Bottom to top, the direction is the same as the land-based pic at the top. The cat is sitting on the slatted box in front of Sandra.

Random Object Photographs-screencap_00004-copy-2-jpg

And back safely on terra firma.

Random Object Photographs-home-safely-jpg

She is seriously pumped about her new toy and will likely be "wasting" a lot of time with it when she should be doing academic work, as she did today.

I was working on a copier at a local water district office and when I was leaving I saw a leaf footed bug on the wall. When I got through clearing the call while sitting in my van I noticed a trail behind her. She was laying eggs. Taken with my work phone.

In the Dream Gun Thread Somebody mentioned that he lusts for a Gatling Gun. In 45-70.
So did Custer!
There’s one up at NRA Whittington.
But it’s not a 45-70!

How bout these White Belly Banded Bovines!
I pretty much know the Cattle Breeds,
But I didn’t know this one!
Belted Galloways.
Sometimes called Oreo Cows.

Hey Rubi - you would have thought that having a Motel -Cafe with a sign out front it would have been easy for LE to nab Butch Cassidy!

Once they got there perhaps. But without Google Maps and Siri/Alexa installed on their horses, they couldn't get the route to town

Default Cannonball Champ

Alex Jones and his 2014 Yamaha FJR1300 just set a new record for the cross-country Cannonball Run, 2788 miles in 32 hours and 52 minutes.
He added a 7 gallon fuel cell on his back seat, which allowed him to only stop seven times, and only for fuel.
He wore a Camelback for hydration and a catheter.

Keeping up with the Jonses.

Next to the "Juniors" cheesecake bakery.

I mentioned in a different thread that my wife and I spent two weeks in Vegas, and here are a few of my favorite photos from our trip. A couple were taken in Zion Natl. Park, and the last one is Mrs. RJ and I having dinner with friends at the Cosmopolitan:

That horse really needs a tune-up!
(I really hope that's an "un-Photoshopped"pic!)

I only just got this one:

Random Object Photographs-driving-too-fast-jpg

Edit: My physics is so shaky it's measured in Richter units, so I looked up the process behind this. For those in a similar condition, this describes the principle behind red- and blue- shift. Hmmm.... now does a high-speed bullet experience red shift?

Breakfast of Champions!!
Wrapped up early at the doctor's, and made it to my old neighborhood pizzeria when they opened the doors at 11am. Delicious!!
