I have NEVER, in just under four years on this splendid forum, made an effort to simply pad my post count. I don't even look to see what it is. On the rare occasions when I notice it, I'm kind of bewildered that it has gotten so high.

Fact is, I'm an opinionated old man and a writer by avocation, with too much time on his hands. But I'm trying to do better, so please bear with me.

Onward, upward, and hang a right at the old Murphy place.

Fuggedaboudit! (In my best Jersy accent) Just keep 'em comin'. Some posters provide quality and some provide quantity. It rare (and appreciated) when someone can provide both.

Ahhh there it is up ahead...the old Murphy place.

You're in good company, from what I can tell, and as long as you don't ask me to bare with you, as I have seen some here do, you've got it.

I never actually considered it as post padding per se. I just figured you'd bored Killer to sleep, but still had more stuff to say.

No point to padding your post count. An unexpected "electronic tsunami" might come along and wash it all away. I have lived through one and folks old enough to remember still spin tales of woe about it. Joe

Well, in the articles of incorporation of the S&W Forum, the Big Griller did guarantee a Mercedes Benz and a weekend in Vegas with the actress of your choice to the first guy to get to 50,000...

(Dick Burg got to 49,999 and wiped out on the aforementioned electronic tsumami. It was a sad, sad, sight...... The unspeakable carnage and the weeping and wailing. Not by Dick, mind, 'cause he was clean konked out, but by all the onlookers. Yep. Hmm. I think that was fall number 1, come to think of it...)

Here's one, just not on the meter. For the humor, not the shameless exploitation of tiny furry creatures.

Shouldazagged's likes have left even his impressive posts count in the dust. And to think of all the dog threads I've started, and I'm still so far behind him.

Darn, took me over 10 years to get above 15,000. But I did loose some unknown amount in the Forum upgrade. I'm not a writer, just an old retired manager with no one to delegate to.

Default On my chess site.....

....they are always having to invent new ways to detect 'bots', i.e. people using computer programs to compete against others. I for the life of me can't understand how that can possibly make anyone feel better about themselves. Unless maybe that a person was extremely shallow to the point that just saying they beat someone gives 'bragging rights' or even any feeling of accomplishment.

What if a guy won a target shooting match by having a gyroscope in the handle of his pistol? I saw today that there are small enough motors to put in a bicycle down bar that drives the pedals with enough force to climb a hill. I couldn't live with myself but some can and do.

If this is so, what 'value' are 'likes' on a board like this.

I thought that you were only 76. Have you had a birthday that makes you now feel old?

And weren't you "opinionated" when you were young, too?

I'm seventy-nine, but don't feel a day over ninety.

And yes, I come from a long line of opinionated bachelors; but in old age I feel more free to spout. They expect a little old man with a white beard to be crusty.
