"sesquipedalian", adjective.
Describes big words, as well as speech and text using big words with many syllables. Can also be used to describe people who produce such language, like folks who'd actually use the term "sesquipedalian".
I learned that word in college in a pub that had a "word of the day" up on their reader board, and I stared at it all night on one oaccasion while slowly getting plastered. That's how you learn things for life.

* Lollygag - verb
To dawdle, procrastinate, waste time, goof off
* Jabberwocky - noun, adjective
senseless words or speech, gibberish
Originates from the Lewis Carroll poem Jabberwocky
Both of these words are fun to say and I use them occasionally.

I use ramekins for dishing up ice cream so I limit the quantity. If the dish is bigger I want to dish up more. We also use them for dipping sauce when serving artichokes, and other foods too.

fortyeleven
My grandmother who was born in 1907, when describing anything in abundance would characterize them as forty eleven. Such as, there were fortyeleven snakes under that piece of tin roofing.

The word is conniption. A good chance I was the reason for many of the conniptions or sometimes called conniption Fit

Ah yes, brings back many fond memories of "Calvin and Hobbes". I have the complete set of "Calvin and Hobbes" books. About twice a year, I get one out and use it for my evening reading. IMHO, Bill Watterson is a wonderful artist and a better intellectual. .......

My grandmother was born in 1892. She has been gone many years now. A few words she used often and I still remember.
Grip - suitcase - Pack you grip for the trip.
Wraps - Coat/sweater/etc. "Don't forget your wraps".
Picture show - Movie at a movie theater. "Going to the picture show".
Sweeper - Vacuum cleaner.

Any Carpetbaggers around?
A few ago was working on my genealogy.
The local expert lady was helping me.
We were working on some of my Mother's folks.
They came down from MO to MS after the war to buy cheap land.
Mildred the expert said 'Those are Carpetbaggers.'
So I'm kin to Carpetbaggers.
That fact did not please my Mother.

You couldn't tell them apart.

Archaic English wording, still common in my Tennessee family when I was a kid:
"I'll be there directly," meaning "shortly".
And then there was "toilet water" for a light cologne. Came from "eau de toilette" (spelling?), I think.
When was the last time you heard "bay rum"?
"Watch fob".
"Contralto"--they're all mezzo sopranos now.

I was a few years too old for hippiedom but one of my college buddies took off for San Francisco in '63. Many/most hippies grew up to be solid citizens. But, when they go to a Clapton or Eagles concert the air is thick with reefer fumes. Wife and I are ex-smokers and she wondered why the venue wasn't enforcing NO SMOKING signs. All we had to do was breathe deeply.

In the Central Pennsylvania hills it's "you'uns". My wife comes from there.

larrupin'
A few years ago I hosted three Arkansas boys at the B&B. One was a cook, one was his sous chef, and the third fella and I drank beer while the meal was prepared. They insisted I join them for dinner. (The things I did for my guests....)
After dinner, the other beer drinker rared back in his seat, rubbed his belly, and said, "Oh, my, that was larrupin'."
The chef asked, "What does that mean?"
I immediately offered, "He's telling you it was a great meal."
I guess folks who drink beer know such things.
