I shoot twice a week on average at a 25yd indoor range and usually stay a few hours so I use a lot of paper and toner.

B2 and B3 targets make up about 90% of my printing.

The hardest part was finding the right card stock that would feed through my Samsung laser printers without jamming.

I found there 2 types of card stock and only one of them works for me.The 8.5x11 Index Card Stock in either 90lb or 110lb works for me.

The Georgia Pacific 110lb card stock at Walmart is $5.48 for 150 sheets but better yet is the Neenah Exact Index Card Stock, 8.5 x 11 Inch, 90 lb, White, 250 Sheets (40311) for $7.48 from Amazon Prime

I print mine on regular typing/copy paper. Seems to work just fine...

Print them off during lunch at work.

I buy a $1.00 target at the range. It is roughly 24" x 36". I take a 7" paper plate and outline it on the back of the target. I usually put up to 9 circles on the back. A little pricier than .03 but use far less laser toner.

Agree with the print outs.
I went online and downloaded several, The I went into Microsoft word and started making my own as well. I am also very cheap and sometimes I will also take a magic marker on a paper plate, make a 1inch (+/-) black circle. Or...If I am doing drawing the the holster work, I consider a paper plate hit, plenty good enough.

Free Targets for Shooters!

Shooting is expensive enough even without adding a few bucks for target purchasing.

Those print-for-free targets are nice, but printer ink is expensive stuff.

I often use orange duct tape & cardboard.

Cardboard is free. The duct tape costs a few bucks.
I did the math, and each target costs me roughly 1¢.

I have a laser printer - it prints at least a thousand sheets of type per $30 toner cartridge. The targets use even less toner than a page of print - probably get at least 2000 targets out of one cartidge. So the paper is a little over a half a cent a page and the toner is a penny and a half, my targets cost me all of 2 cents apiece. I use a red marker to color in the center dot on my favorite pistol target that looks like this one.

I just printed and "colored" 50 of them for my boy and I to use tomorrow...

Printing 8.5"x11" targets is a great way to save money. They don't always work though. Sometimes you need larger targets.

There are versions you can make by piecing together a few sheets of paper, but I've found butcher paper to be quite nice. I just use a sharpie and draw full size torso targets. Usually I make mine about 18"x24", but you can go much larger.

A roll of butcher paper from Home Depot is about $8. I can get enough targets out of one roll that it costs me about $.05/target.

You can get 600 18"x24" targets out of this: That would be $.05 each.

How long does a toner cartridge last?

You can get a commercial printer to print targets on card stock for about a nickel each if you work in bulk. If you're willing to downgrade on the paper, even less.

And this, just for fun. Run through the printer, flip over the long axis and run through again. Trim to get business card sized cards printed on both sides. May take some monkeying to get the two sides to register properly. Or take it to a Kinkos or similar quick printer shop.

A black toner cartridge lasts about 2,500 pages. Obviously that depends on how much print is on each page.

While I agree with the sentiment of your cards, I would never use one. The left portion makes sense and might sway someone though I doubt it. The right portion is completely contrary to the whole idea of concealed carry.

Changing people's minds is a difficult task. It's about perception. The idea that a concealed handgun is a danger to anyone is based on unfounded fear. Since the "no guns" idea is irrational, how will a rational concept change their mind?

Printer or copier...ah where you go everyday, do great. If using "that" copier, MAKE sure
you take the original off the glass.

I buy a roll of freezer paper for around $3 and a can of black spray paint. I spray paint a 2" dot with a 8" circle around the dot. I put a coat hanger through the roll and hang it on some pvc. I pull down a 2' piece and secure the bottom. This is my target for cheap cost.

If you have a little local printing place you may find you can get the full size silhouette poster size targets printed for just a few cents if you buy 500 to 1000 or more .. much cheaper then you can buy usually .. plus keeps your money in town which helps everyone .. get a few guys to split the cost and targets and order several thousand at a time ..

I know when the kids and grand kids come over to shoot its not unusual to go thru 20 targets or more all according to what they are practicing .. and 700 to 1000 rounds .. I probably go thru 150-200 a year just myself ..

Can be an expensive Saturday afternoon ..

I don't think I could print in color for .03 cents a piece with the cost of ink and good paper stock .. ink being the highest cost .. I like some color in my targets as it seems to help these old eyes ..

good idea .. if you made a reusable cardboard stencil they would be all the same size .. My luck I would put a round through the roll of paper and have a line of holes on the paper as it unwound ..

I used to print my targets on out massive copy machines at work late in the day or early morning. No way I am using an ink jet now.

Offset printing used to be the way to get lots of copies, in color on the stock you wanted. If you have access to a copier at work where they don't mind using up their toner, that's great. Push the button and come back at the end of lunch.

I print a lot more than just the targets but a black toner cartridge is rated for 1000 pages at 5% coverage.Costs about $13 per cartridge for the $50 black only laser printer so 1000 targets cost $43 to print.

The refills are much cheaper than original OEM.

I started out printing targets on plain thin laser copy paper but there's was too much tearing so I searched for and experimented with many different paper types and weights that go through the printers without jams and settled on the card stock mentioned in post #1

If I had to practice during peak range times, I'd gladly shell out the $200 for one. See, the problem is a bullseye shooter shooting practice matches changes targets at odd times. Slow Fire generally takes between 5 and 10 minutes for a skilled shooter, depending on technique. But Timed Fire is only two 20-second strings, and Rapid is only two 10-second strings. Even if you stick two Timed targets on a frame, it's awful inconvenient either for you or the other shooters.

Note--I've no dog in this fight. I just know the guy who designed it. He also made himself a "spotting scope" with an old camcorder, a portable battery, and a little monitor. One of these days, I have to get him to make me a version with new gear. Although I bet he could make a helluva good one with a little digital camera and a cheap tablet.

I made my own target roll once. Made the mistake of letting a buddy shoot with me. One shot went high and put a hole through most of the roll. Showed the weakness of the concept right off.

For a bullseye shooter who isn't likely to throw one high or low, it's a great tool.

I use old decks of cards. It's pretty neat to shoot a royal flush or a full house.

I don't mind buying targets, but I have a hard time getting someone to hold them for me.

I use the 32# HP Premium Choice Laser printer paper, which is $20.00 for 500 sheets at Office Depot. A lot cheaper elsewhere. It's a 98 brightness (really, really white!) and very smooth. On my old HP laser printer (Model 1020) it prints really intense black solids.

I found the 20# too light, it tears. The 32# is heavy enough, it holds up better than the 20# and prints much, much better than the heavier stuff on my printer.

I spent my entire working life in the printing industry and could bore you to death explaining paper weights and the history behind them, but in the simplest terms there are several base ("parent sheet" or "standard sheet") types of paper, and each base type has it's own weight range. Weights are not linear across all types.

My 32# mics out at .006", your 90# mics out at .007". Mine is "Writing" (aka "Bond") yours is "Index". So your 90# is not even close to almost three times as thick as my 32# in spite of the giant spread in the stated weights.

I just draw my own targets in Libre Office Draw. It's a free office suite.
