Default PC washing.....

I have noticed that while posting, letters do not always print out
while I m typing . See!
( while I am typing )

I think the one Dr Pepper I spilt a little, a while back, has messed the keyboard up.

My PC repairman said to put it in the dish washer, to clean it.
He just said to make sure it as dry, before using.

Has anyone done this?
Is there another way to clean the board?

I don't think I want to take it apart...........

Thanks for any info.

Crumbs are the usual suspects.

While holding the keyboard long way up use a can of compressed air to blow out the debris from under the keys.

If the board has seen a lot of service it some keys could be warn out.

Dishwasher,never in a million years.

Never tried a dishwasher. As mentioned by StakeOut it could be just full of crumbs. If that doesn't solve the issue just pick up a new keyboard at Best Buy or Wally World and plug it in. They're only ten bucks or so unless you want something fancy. Problem solved.

If you do decide to put it in the dishwasher be sure to use cascade ..water spots might just ruin it forever....

Time to fire your PC repair guy. He'll be fine, though...he'll still have his real job at Pizza Hut.

You can often pick up used keyboards cheaply at Salvation Army and the like.

Were it me, cheap as they are, I might try that dishwasher move... (If you do, let us know what happens!)

Get yourself a can of electric contact cleaner, if you have a Radio Shack that hasn't closed you might get a can there. Spray it while it's not powered on. It dries pretty fast.

Or buy a new one, they're pretty cheap. Actually cheaper than the can of cleaner.

I agree!

OP, you can clean your keyboard using distilled water. Put it in a container and pour enough warm or mildly hot distilled water over it to cover it (after unplugging it, of course!!!), then swish it around. If you're lucky, it will dissolve the sugar left by the Dr. Pepper. Dry thoroughly, though before plugging back in or you might let all the magic smoke out the back of your computer. Using tap water can leave minerals on your contact surfaces that can screw the surfaces up.

Or just buy a new keyboard (they're cheap) and switch to diet soda, which contains no sugar to gum up your keys in the even of a spill.

First thing I would try is turn it upside down and shake it vigorously. Spraying with compressed air might help too.

I would just buy a new keyboard, but I would still try the dishwasher just to see if it works.

Some funny stuff here! My keyboards live out side basically and I just turn upside and bang them lightly to get to get all the loose stuff out then wash them with a minimum of water and when they are dry hook them back up and they last a long time and work well for months at a time. They do wear out and need to replaced occasionally.

My grandson dumped some red wine on my keyboard while he was sitting in my son's lap at my pc a few years ago. I figured I had nothing to lose by giving the dishwasher cleanup a try. I took the back off and most of the electronic circuits were covered by a plastic cover. I put it in the dishwasher and it did the job. That keyboard was still working about 9 years later when I finally bought a new computer.

Would this work on a laptop keyboard or are they sealed? I've changed it once on my Toshiba and now the new one is failing. A new keyboard is only about $15.00 but the dishwasher is cheaper.

Sounds like he might be a keyboard salesman.
When I spilled a drink on my wireless keyboard, I had issues, mostly sticking keys but dropped letters too. I pulled the battery, went to Wally World and invested 88 cents in a gallon of distilled water, dumped that all over the keyboard, shook it, set it in the sun for a few hours to dry out, put the battery back in and I'm using it to type this.
