Default Proof of Ghosts?

Since I was a wee lad of maybe 10, I've known not to carry anything but a handkerchief in my pants pocket with my knife. Keys, coins, etc. will scratch the knife.
So, my right trousers pocket has nothing but a pocketknife and the handkerchief.

I cleaned out my pockets at bedtime a few days ago and only the knife was in that pocket. I checked the pocket again and checked the laundry basket. Looked for anywhere I might have had the hanky out. I'm almost sure that I put the handkerchief on the dresser the night before, with other pocket stuff. Didn't I put that hanky in my pocket the next day?

Still no handkerchief.

Did a ghost take it? Will I find it some weird place, although I have no knowledge of taking it out of the pocket that day?

Maybe time will tell. I don't think it's dementia...

Have you ever had something disappear that way? Did you find it?

Nothing bad meant, but I blame anything like that on short term memory loss. I am all the time missing things, some not so small, and when I do run across them again, feels kinda like Christmas. I do like the ghost story a lot, think I will try using it for a change, with your permission, of course.

After you reach a certain age you can begin to do things others cannot do. Beyond that age each time you pass from room to room you actually pass through a time portal at the door way.Somethings that you think are secure on your person pass into another space/time continuum at that portal and may show up later in the oddest place or it may continue in that realm and never return!

I doubt ghosts catch colds so I doubt they need a handkerchief to blow their noses.

Lots of good reasons to carry a cotton bandanna. I do every day. Haven't blown my nose on one in years.

Do you throw your underwear away after each wearing or do you put them in the laundry? I suspect they may be nastier than a handkerchief regardless of how it's been used.

I don't believe in ghosts, but I do leave a trail of personal belongings behind everywhere I go. Or so it seems.

My father had been battling cancer and was in the hospital. Basically there was nothing they could do at that point, just waiting for the inevitable. He was given a Live Strong wrist band when first diagnosed and never took it off. Thing just disappeared even the hospital said they didn't remove it.

I'm proud to say that my briefs at the end of the day are clean at both ends. However when I blow my nose in a tissue,I dispose of it quickly.I can't imagine why I might want to put it in my pocket for the day, then launder it other cloths.Call me weird......

Ghosts exist.

Every night I go down to the fridge and there is a six pack missing.

I can think of no other explanation.

Maybe you gave it to a young lady whom you saw crying, being the gentleman the you are of course.

As a boy, my mom always made us boys carry a handkerchief, it served many uses, a table cloth for your desk at school, the cover a cut or scrape, give a girl that is crying, to keep the sweat out of your eyes when working, or as a towel to dry your hands and face. I think my mom was trying to get her little heathens to act like gentlemen.

"Thing just disappeared even the hospital said they didn't remove it. "
From my own experience and also that of other family members, I can state that personal items going missing in hospitals is not unusual. But I don't think it is caused by ghosts. Never take (or let anyone else in your family take) anything to a hospital as a patient other than absolutely essential items. Definitely no watches, money, jewelry, cash, billfolds, purses, etc.

Did you look in your other pockets, including any other clothing you may have worn?

Inside of the washer and dryer? Folded up in towels or sheets they may have been washed with?

I once had a sock go missing and found it when I pulled the fitted sheet off my bed. The sock was clean and hiding between the fitted sheet and the mattress pad. The older you get the better the ghost can hide things.

If you sneeze hard enough into a tissue, you may need to dispose of both.

Jim, I don't think you have ghosts taking your hankie, but it may well be the little people have migrated from my place to yours. When they were in my area they would swing by to borrow things about twice a year. Sometimes they remembered to return whatever they borrowed and sometimes not.

It was Sherlock Holmes in "The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet" who said, "It is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

The real question is, why would anyone care if their pocket knife got scratched? A real pocket knife is a tool, not some precious artifact to be kept from harm. That's right up there with believing in ghosts.

And some folks don't believe in safe queens. Your stuff, do what you want for reasons that you want.

(I'm with the I ain't blowing my noise in a hankerchief and stuffing the results in my pocket crowd. I'll use a tissue and throw it away. I carry a hankerchief for a variety of other uses though.)

Different strokes for different folks.

Default Not ghosts, but a magician.....

I feel that every year I feel more and more like a real magician at making things disappear. I mean a regular David Copperfield.

I did the old 'false bottom box' on myself. Lost a pair of headphones and hadn't seen them in 15 years. One day I lifted a box out of another box that was close fitting, and 'abra cadabera' There were my headphones. Note that this is long since I quit using headphones.

ALIENS!!! I'm certain that they have a bunch of my tools, too. The first one they got was my favorite wrench for working in tight places, a short, double-offset 12 pt. in 1/2" x 9/16". Then my best lineman pliers. Things went downhill quickly from there...

AARRRGHHH!!!

I don't often blow my nose on the handkerchief. I carry a pack of Kleenex in my jacket and in my briefcase, there's more. The handkerchief is for emergencies if I run out of Kleenex and to protect the knife from bumps.

I disagree that a knife should be maltreated as just a tool. I take care of all my things, and I like my knives.

One man above asked if the ghosts showed taste in taking a Benchmade knife. What went missing is a handkerchief. I do wear a Benchmade Model 710, but in a belt pouch. The pocketknife is usually some sort of Swiss Army knife, most often a Vic. Spartan.

I did check the only other pair of trousers that I might have worn. My stuff isn't on the edge of the dresser at night, so it couldn't have fallen off. I did look, but the A/C is nowhere near strong enough to blow away a good linen handkerchief.

BTW, I clean eyeglasses with special lens tissues, but if I'm out, a moistened handkerchief is used.

I looked around the computer, thinking that I might have taken out the knife and hanky to open snacks or mail. Nope. Not there. And I usually use a separate letter opener.

I remain baffled. I'll let you know if it turns up and where.

I am familiar with the Sherlock Holmes quote mentioned above. I guess I haven't exhausted all the possibilities yet.

BTW, we don't have pack rats here.

The only parallel case for me was when I lost a favorite Zeiss 6X20B pocket monocular. I finally decided it must have slipped out of my jacket pocket as the coat hung on my chair in a restaurant. Of course, it hadn't been turned in there, but many people would steal a fine optical instrument if found in a restaurant.

I bought an 8X20B replacement, in a new model to replace it. Out some serious dollars there...

Months later, I moved a box in the closet under where I hang that coat. There, safe on the carpet, was that monocular! It must have fallen out of the coat when I hung it up, although I generally empty the pockets of all but tissue before hanging up a coat. The soft rug would have muffled the sound of the monocular falling. The rug and the leather case prevented any damage to the glass, although it fell about three feet.

I'm glad to have the newer monocular and use it when I want more power, but really treasure that discontinued 6X20B.

Too right! I had $26 stolen from my wallet in a hospital in 2015. Lucky more wasn't missing. I think a maid took it while I was in the bathroom. She got into a sack where I had to put my clothes. When I went later to surgery, I had the hospital supervisor put my valuables in a safe. They barely apologized for the theft. But with the exception of two nurses, the staff was cold and uncaring. Fortunately, one of those nurses was a real fox and she kept my spirits up. I took cell phone pics, but she told me not to post them anywhere.

I hate hospitals, anyway.

Washing Machines and Clothes Dryers eat socks and handkerchiefs.
Normally they will eat only one sock from a matched pair

I've got it! The ghost took your hanky to protect the many pocketknives he has taken from me over the years.

You have to have enough cash with you to buy beer and cigarettes.

My original response to you about the handkerchief was meant to be humorous. No need to defend the practice of carrying one.

Just today I wanted a cup of coffee, so I looked for the cup I used this morning.

Could not find it. Looked everywhere - three times.

Eventually I checked the microwave.... D'oH!

I had apparently reheated a cup, got pulled off into a job and now I know where I put the cup.

Was seriously considering ghosts or an international coffee cup theft ring.

How many remember this song? The sweater. This was said to have been based on what really happened in Havana Cuba.

I remember it, but I have heard several places where it was supposed to happen.
