Now I have a REAL problem.
Who do I root for in a Pens/Caps series??? While the series will probably have excellent play from both sides and be exciting watch, I am not a fan of either team!
Great hockey (as a fan of the game) should override my dislike of the teams right? I'm so conflicted!!

I'm pulling for the Caps vs. the Pens...but in 7 games and 5 overtimes in game 7.

Well, I ended up batting .325 in round 1 (too bad this isn't baseball) Now for round 2, this is easier because I don't have conflicting loyalties to muddy things up. Here's my picks
Pens
Rangers
Oilers
Blues

Caps in 7. I hope & pray.
The Pens can't be as dirty as the Leafs were. Hope to see the Caps give them some payback next season.
Also hope all the official that were there at the Caps/Leafs games are fired before next season. And I thought MLB umpires were terrible. I've never seen anything as bad as the officials in then NHL!!!

I haven't been able to get over the shock of seeing the Hawks swept. Glad to see the Blues advance, as well as the Pens and the Caps. Not "really" rooting for any team now, just want to see some great hockey. That said, I am definitely rooting against Slashville.

I don't really have a dog in the fight anymore but have always liked the Rangers. I think they have a decent shot at going all the way. I just hope the somebody stops the Caps. I want to see the Oilers do well too. There just pretty much a bunch of kids who don't know their supposed to lose. They show some grit.

Gonna get real interesting. Penguin -v- Capitals If I was the kind of person to see conspiracies having Crosby -v- Ovetchkin is a ratings delight for ESPN.

Alright! Hockey is back after a two night hiatus.
Tonight, we have two of the four grandkids for a couple of days. One 5 year old granddaughter and one 17 month granddaughter.
Missus Biker will put the younger one to bed around 7:30. Papa is responsible for the 5 year old. I'll tuck her in around 8:30, read a bed time story and give her a good night kiss which she will promptly "wipe off" requiring several more "permanent" kisses and much laughter.
After about 5 minutes I will hear the pitter-patter of her little feet and the plaint that she can't sleep. At this point she will crawl up in my lap and we will discuss the progress of the game, who I am pulling for and the arcane rules of this great game.
After about 30 minutes or so, I will tuck her in for the last time and return to the game. Doesn't get any better for a Papa!

How about them Oilers? The kids win one.
Why in the world are they playing both games at the same time tomorrow? Having suffered a few too many pucks to the noggin myself I can't watch two at a time. I have to pick one and it's going to be hard. I'm leaning toward the Rangers Leafs game.

Tough loss for the Blues. Subban continues to stay hot.
Do what the Hawks didn't do against them...control the NZ, limit turnovers, actually have a PK/PP & forecheck!
Yes, I am still supremely disappointed in the Blackhawks pathetic swept series exit at the hands of the Preds. Avenge me, younger brother! AVENGE ME!
GO BLUES
Didn't watch the Oily - Duck game. Would rather see Houston take it, but we'll see.
Rainjahs tonight early ...Go Rainjahs!
Yes, nearly the same start as Pens - Caps? Wha?
At least spread em out a little more.

Rangers sucked in period 1. However, Lundquist kept them in the game with great play. 0-0

The Pens were heavily outplayed the 2nd half of the game. Bonino and Fleury came through, though. Should be a heck of a series.

Tough loss for the Rangers last night. Some missed icing and penalty calls that might have had a major impact on the game but that's hockey.
Time to move on.
Lundquist played great. The rest of the team not so much.

Both games were worth the watch.
I learned about "agitators" last night.
While the forum was down, I researched lists of the NHL's dirtiest players and found that surprisingly, many of them included two that are currently in the playoffs.
I am sure you seasoned hockey guys know who they are.

Tried posting last night after the Ranger loss and the Pittsburgh win but could not get the post to stick even after the site was not in "Maintenance" mode.
The Rangers loss was a tough one, but Lundqvist was the main reason that they were in the game at all! Ottawa carried the action for the majority of the game IMHO. Gotta do better tomorrow!
After all my whining about how conflicted I was in who to root for in the Caps/Pens series my heart took over. I was rooting for the Pens for the entire game. I guess I hate them less!

Sweet win by the Blues, series tied at one win each. Now just gotta take 1 game in Nashville to re-establish home ice advantage.
Now on to the Oilers/Ducks game!
As I'm typing, Oilers have gone up 1 zip! oilers already up one game in Anaheim.

Being from Montreal's area,I thought I had the complete wisdom about hockey. Now that I've lost lots of warm air in my balloon,I'm quite shy about making any new prediction!(who would've believed the Habs would have lost in 6...some politicians must be under this!!!).But since hockey is a man's sport and I'm a real honest to God one, here goes;the Caps or the Pittsburg Penguins will bring the trophy home(those observers who say that I'm wise by choosing not one but 2 teams might not be far from the truth...the other way to put it,while not as polite but still true would be to say thay I'm chicken...)!
We'll see who is right and you'll see that i'm right....for if I'm wrong you probably won't read me here anymore....exept if somebody wants to start a thread about knitting

Logan made through the Oilers game with me.
This newfound hockey appreciation has been a boon for both of us. He loves watching football and baseball with me but he's not as animated with them as he is with hockey.
It's like back when my mom would watch afternoon roller derby and throw the iron at the tv.
Ah, the memories.

Holy cow. Gotta feel bad for the Rangers on that game-tying goal. Nice play by the ref to knock the Ranger off the puck and keep the puck in the zone.

Ranger Rant
I have now witnessed the Alain Vigneault version of the infamous Buddy Ryan "Prevent Defense". You know, the one that prevents you from winning!
Rangers up by 2 goals with 3:02 left and then go into a shell. Don't seem to try to generate any offense just piddley little passes that don't clear or barely clear the zone and allow Ottawa to keep the pressure on. Manage to give up the two tying goals. What the "H-E double Hockey Sticks" kind of game plan is that?
Rant off (for now!)

Rangers lose in double OT.
I am at a loss for words. A period of mourning is in order I believe.

Ok!!! Forum is working fine for me now AND the Blues are on.
Still smarting over the Bone-headed coaching by the Rangers staff but life goes on (even if the Rangers are going to be gone soon!)
Let's go Blues! (Assuming that bigride is sleeping for the duration of the game. )

Before the end of the Caps game, last night, I'd swear Trotz was looking into the stands for a goalie.

Maybe Vigneault should be looking as well. And learning to properly employ his personnel at critical points of the game.
As bad as the players were, and they stunk, including Lundquist...the coaching staff was pathetic, especially late in the game...again.

I've been missing you guys. I have only been able to catch a period here and there the last few days with family issues.
It looks like the Ducks woke up. I bet that one goes 7. I sure do like the way the Pens vs. Caps series is going. I don't think anybody can stop the Pens. They pretty much have it all going right now. As far as the Rangers go I'm don't know. I think they are just too beat up and it's showing.

Well, game time!
Game 3 between Caps and Pens. Pittsburgh won the first 2 and now are home for two with a chance to end the Caps season. Don't think that will happen but one can hope!
As to the Rangers, I think they are dead men skating, they just don't know it. Again one can hope but having to win 3 out of 4 is a pretty tall order.

Sweet Judy Blue Eyes!
Pens tie the game and take it to OT!! Holtby looked phenomenal all night but Pens looked like the Rangers and allowed two goals with less than two minutes left!
Fleury also made some incredible saves to keep the Pens in the game.
Caps gotta be wondering what just happened!
Let's go Pens (ONLY because I hate them less than the Caps)!!
Regardless of the eventual winner it has been a great game!

Tough loss for the Pens. Hope Crosby is OK.

Nuts!
Rusty, amen to Crosby being okay to play game four. With his history of concussions you have to be concerned not just for the next game but for his health and life after hockey.

Out of town and fully occupied for some days, but ready to relax and watch me some hockey! Rainjahs best bring it tonight. It really has been a closer series than it shows. Can not let the Sens up 3-0 A Canadian team in the final?! Wow. What would they do with themselves. Can't have that.
Blues - Preds late...should be good. Sandford & Paajarvi supposedly back/starting will give Blues more speed and maybe tenderize the Preds D men some or at least slow the contributions. Subban & Ellis, etc really buried us (Blackhawks) and will need to be dealt with if the Blues are going to prevail. Come on little brother...GO BLUES!!

Crosby is out for tomorrow's game with a concussion. I have watched it over and over and whether intentional or inadvertent, it was cringe worthy.

That is very bad news for the Pens and fans looking for a continuation of what has been the marquee series so far this year.
I don't believe that there was any intent to injure Crosby because he was already on his way down after the slash by Ovechkin. The hit would have been in the chest if not for that and likely no harm done.
I'm no doctor, and I don't play one on TV, but I gotta think he will likely miss the rest of the series. Concussions are nothing to fool with and given his concussion history I fear for his future in AND out of the game. I certainly wish him well and hope for the best.
