In the 1960s, when I was in Massachusetts, April 19 was a state holiday.

Should be a national holiday but our present culture has lost its way. If our schools weren't run by antis every grade school kid would study our countries military history and be taught how our government works.

Still a holiday here in Mass. Sadly, not one mention in the local media, about the real Patriots Day. You remember the real meaning of Patriots Day, don't you? I still do. The de-facto birth of the Republic, on Lexington Green, that day. Now, all you hear about is the Marathon, the bombing, the Red Sox. Such a sad commentary about the "evolution" of our culture.

Interestingly, if you were to ask the average person about the significance of April 19th 1775 few if any would have an answer. If, on the other hand, you asked about the significance of May 5th 1862 you'd get a smattering of correct answers.
History is all about the Marketing, take a shot for "The Shot Heard Round the World" and check out that mattress sale!

Without taking the time to look, I believe the Oklahoma city bombing and the Branch Davidian fiasco were also on 4/19. Pretty significant date in history.

"By the rude bridge that arched the flood
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard 'round the world."
I have always liked the comment made by one British officer after Bunker Hill:
"Damn the Rebels that they would not flinch!"
