The marquetry and inlay work alone are just breathtaking. Someone looking at the Roentgen brothers' furniture has to wonder how many manhours any particular piece took to complete. And it's all done by hand.

It sounds silly to say, but look...no batteries, no microprocessors or chips, no digital frou-frous. All the works operate by weights and pulleys and springs...just like a fine clock.

I equate work of this quality and craftsmanship with fine firearms engraving...different mediums, same high standards of work by talented and dedicated individuals.

Simply put, this is art at its finest.

Imagine accidentally hitting the wrong spot whilst penning a fan letter to Chuck Norris and winding up in traction.

We read. Wrote letters. Kept handwritten files. We talked to each other...in person! Had neighborhood and church gatherings. Pow wows and tribal gatherings. And so on and so forth.

We interacted with each other on a personal basis.

We acted like humans instead of robots.

You can't get craftsmanship like that anymore. Far advanced for it's time. I wonder how long it took this craftsman to build this.

Heck at my age I wouldn't remember where all the hidden compartments were. Don't put the heart medicine in there.

Wonder how many little spaces have never been found?
X-ray of that piece would be interesting.

Default Hidden compartments in IKEAs......

Hidden compartments in IKEAs wouldn't hold very much. Just think of the reloading bench that would make!!!
