Question Any body know what this goes to?

I don't have a clue other then it has something to do with firearms I assume. It was in a box of different tools that had belonged to an old friend who was a gunsmith by trade. He made some beautiful rifles. My guess was something used to stipple a surface?Sorry in advance for the ****** pic.

Might be an early tubing cutter for cutting off barrels. Just a guess.

I would say a knurling tool, also. For round parts, maybe. Used
like a pipe cutter?

If that horizontal piece attached in the back of the tool is part of it, I guess it's a lathe tool for knurling.
The tool would be flipped bottom side up to place the adjustment on top.
The bar in the background would allow attachment to the tool post of the lathe.
I'd suspect if he was a gunsmith he used it to run up a knurl on things like press fit bbls that were loose fitting in their recv;rs(22 rifles and the like).

Put the bbl in the headstock with the shank protruding a bit. Adjust the tool in the tool post to bring the knurling heads into contact with the bbl shank. Then with the bbl turning slowly, increase the pressure by way of the screw adj to impress a deep knurl into the bbl shank.
Doesn't look like a fancy cross hatch knurl pattern wheel,,just a straight line pattern. Perfectly good for that.

Sure beats winding thread or wire around the bbl and beating it into place hoping it stays put!

Just my guess of course..
