takes me 10-12 years to get a good pair of jeans broke in with just a few little tears and folks will spend many $$$ for a pair already cut up. I just don't understand city folks. sad part is someone is actually paying that for them. you can buy a lot of good used guns for $400.00. lee

I worked with a young lady once that was wearing thread bare torn jeans.
Me, "hey Amber, isn't 'bout time you got some new jeans?"
Amber, "these are new, it costs more to get them this way."
Back in the day we wore our jeans out ourselves.

Dirty Jeans for $400
In the olden days, us boys received two new pair of Sears and Roebuck jeans at the beginning of every school year - we picked them up at the big store on Ponce de Leon Avenue for you native Atlantans. Usually got some fudge as a treat at the same time.
When we, not if we, wore holes in the knees, my mother would patch them with iron on patches from the inside so as to be discreet that we were wearing worn out clothes -
When last I went shopping with my teen aged daughter I bought her a pair of jeans from a boutique that looked liked she had lost a fight with a barbed wire fence - cost over fifty bucks as I recall.
Good grief - I do fight to remain relevant.

I tell you what, I found a pair of the older thick denim Levi 560 red tabs at the thrift store for a dollar on Monday and I felt like I won the lottery. I have a hard time paying $18.00 for new Wranglers.

I've got jeans covered in cow manure. I'll gladly sell them for $300 a pair.

Pmosley, my mom used to do that, too. Patch our jeans at the knee from the inside. And we all wore hand-me-downs. We were a middle-class family, and my dad a government office worker, but that was just common sense. That's what everyone did.
And I recall my mom's basket of mending items. She could patch darn near anything. (I do recall she was pretty mad at me when I ripped some new khakis on the neighbor's barbed wire fence, but she patched 'em up for me anyway.)

Never underestimate the eccentricities of the buying populous.
They still sell Earth Shoes and Chia Pets.

Get a real working job and the things get real dirty all by themselves, while you make some money! Sometimes it just seems like this country is just veering off in the wrong direction...

If people are dumb enough to pay that price then the old adage of
" a fool and their money are soon parted" applies.
Or...stupid is as stupid does.

I was sitting in a taxi in downtown Tokyo one night, maybe 20 or so years ago. There was a jacked up station wagon next to me — oversize tires. This in itself was unusual to see in Tokyo. Then I noticed some sorta design around the fenders. Couldn't quite make it out. Then I realized what it was: Painted on mud splatters...
Bet that guy would buy some $400 fake muddied jeans...

Its not city folks. Its anybody with throw away money and no sense of personal value. Self worth and character are obtained with clothes, cars and condescension.
That's sad enough but its possible that those who buy $400 jeans have kids with holes in their socks.

I just pulled off a pair of jeans with real mud I'd sell for half that amount. I'll throw in a few lint balls for free, maybe a tick or two.
Anybody else remember when new jeans were as stiff as plywood and turned your skin blue?

Yep those that pay that price for those jeans probably have a pet rock at home also. Like they say a fool is born every moment. Also a fool and his money are soon departed.
I wonder how much those old jeans I threw in the Goodwill clothes box got sold for? Geeze I might have given away a few grand worth of jeans and didn't know it.

Just made myself a pair of $400 jeans today slithering on the shop floor, exploring the underside of a Chev Blazer that blew the seal out of the power steering pump. Maybe I could have upped the price a bit if I hadn't swept the floor beforehand.

SC Mike, yeah remember the stiff jeans and blue stains when they were new. They used to sell a product that you put in the washer ran a few minutes and then throw your brand new jeans in. Real hot water as I remember. One or two wash cycles and they would come out somewhat faded and no blue underware. Today they come that way and still takes a fair number of washings even with fabric softener. I'm one of those old farts who does not like suits or fancy clothes. Told my wife when my time has come, outfit me in jeans, one of my sport shirts and stuff me in the box. Frank

Just think how much we could have all sold our worn out, torn, oil & grease stained jeans for now!
When I see my Daughter wear them I crack up! Hey, it's HER money!
LL Bean Jeans work for me and when they are too stained or torn to wear I'm calling Nordstoms from now on - LOL.

You can see somewhat the same phenomenon with leather jackets. People will pay for an "antiqued" finish. I have had an old Tauber since the '70s. Nothing special, straight zipper, mandarin collar and two zipped slash pockets. It has some miles on it, and shows it.
I have received half a dozen offers for it over the years. Haven't been able to wear it for 20. Maybe my grandson will like it.

My wife and I made a delivery to a fancy lawyer office yesterday. She was going to take the package in, and as she slid out of the seat she commented, "I shouldn't be going in here wearing jeans." but went on anyway. About halfway up the walk, the door opened and a young woman with a fancy hairdo came out, wearing what looked like expensive Italian heels, a silk blouse, and "pre-stressed" jeans, I mean BIG holes in them, walked to a Lexus, got in and drove on out of the parking lot.
I guess my wife wasn't undressed after all.

If they will pay 400 for fake dirt, I'm sure they will pay more for the real stuff.

You guys laugh but I envy the people who came up with the pet rock and the stone wrapped in leather...and this too. I envy them because while we look at those things and say "why" and "who would....". They look at it and say "I bet somebody will!"
I'm thinking about bottling sewer water in a fancy $10 cup and charging $150. The cup can be carried as an accessory to the dirty jeans and the pet rock can be bathed in it!

Heck, the ushers in my church have been wearing those for years.
When I was a kid men wore suits to church without thinking twice about it.

I think I'd stick to $30-$40 jeans and put the rest of the money towards another Shield, or some ammo! But, that's just me...

Original Levis 501 button fly after years of use... perfect faded blue and soft. Nice.
Back in the day a lot of my clothes had a slight faint blue tint from washing them with new Levis that hadn't quite washed the dye out yet. That took more than just one washing.... but as a bachelor .. well ya know... toss em all in...

I always have problems finding jeans that fit. I have no butt and a big gut. Nothing fits quite right and, at least to me, I won't spend $50 on a pair of jeans. I recently found a pair of almost no name jeans at Kohl's but they only had a few and not my size. I went home, checked online at the Kohl's website and found them. $15 each so I ordered 4 pair. They had a 40% off sale going on so I ended up paying less than $10 a pair. They are every bit as good as the major brand names at a lot less money. Yeah I'm cheap!!!!!

Same here. And those were real jeans back in the early fifties...none of these fashion things with different cuts and stuff. None of that pre-washed stuff going on, either. Those jeans were so heavy and stiff when new, we looked like stiff-legged little kid robots walking to school. And for some reason in the winter time, those stiff jeans made it seem even colder...never have figured out why.

I don't see it as a scam. A scam implies that it's false, lies, none existent, bait and switch. There are no lies here. You were advertised a rock and you got a rock. It's not their problem that you see a need to pay for a rock

At least I never fell for that one. I picked up a fairly large Caliche rock all by myself.

When last I went shopping with my teen aged daughter I bought her a pair of jeans from a boutique that looked liked she had lost a fight with a barbed wire fence - cost over fifty bucks as I recall.
Good grief - I do fight to remain relevant.

I remember well those annual trips to Sears for the jeans. My parents always coordinated the shopping trip to coincide with an Atlanta Crackers baseball game that evening at the adjacent Ponce de Leon ballpark.

I wonder how many income tax returns will now claim $400 for each pair of donated jeans?
