I worked for Medieval Times, and worked with a man that actually duplicates the items found in the castles. Very interesting how some of the items are duplicated in the fashion the original items were made. When my wife worked at Cracker Barrel I was surprised to learn ALL the items are original....not duplicates.

All I have is WOW!

I have to say, that before reading this thread, I had never heard of anyone that didn't enjoy the meals (and service) at CB.

I've eaten hundreds of meals at CB, and have found every one of them to be excellent (as was the service)!

Also, when traveling, I enjoy nothing better then seeing a sign for CB, and knowing that I'll be able to get a quality, great tasting meal and some great service!

Now I am sure, that from time top time CB serves up a bad meal and has some bad service (it is, after all, run by humans), but to hear some of you talk here I can only thank God that I don't have to try and please you.

We all have choices in life, including food. I choose to not go to
CB. For more reasons than the food. My late husband was in very poor physical health and could barely walk and they tried to seat us in the far corner when there were 2 empty tables just inside the door. Finally did get seated there and very rude service followed. And there are other reasons too.
These were over various visits, not just one and done.

I have no reason to spend my money at CB, there are choices.
(that don't taste like bad hospital food)

Well I always wondered how to describe their food, but that is the best, hospital food. I didn't find it bad, just bland, lack of country flavor.

Plus taking chances in life IMO makes it interesting. Who wants to go on vacation, travel, and eat in the same places as home. I like a change of pace. Places like No Name Key Pub, Dirty Dicks Crab Shack, Alabama Jacks on Card Sound Key Largo, and a good number of local places in the Florida Keys, and south Florida.

Any number of small towns throughout the nation have great little locally owned restaurants. Wish I could remember the names of all of them we have visited. But once you visit a CB, you have seen them all.

I like the candy at Cracker Barrel, one of the few places that I can find a Chunky bar.

I live in far west Texas; the Tigua indians operate a restaurant down the road a bit from the town of Ysleta. It has the best green chile I've ever tasted, but you have to have an asbestos gullet to get the stuff down!

I have eaten in a CB exactly four times.....My wife is a sucker for their phony 'antique store'. My only comment is that it is my humble opinion that they emphasis "quantity" over "quality". My last of the four 'adventures' was in Yuma, AZ. It took me three days to get over that 'adventure'. I vowed, "Never Again". ......

I've never had a bad meal or experience at a Cracker Barrel, but I'm sort of like Yogi Berra about the place. I don't go there much because it's too crowded. I'm not eating at any place where I have to take a number and sit around and wait.

There's another place just down the street.

We always try to get there either a little earlier or a little later to miss the crowds and the noise, but sometimes it can't be helped.
One thing I go for specifically is their Lemon Pepper Trout, I just love their Trout.
Breakfast for me they make everything good that I like!
At the end a visit to the candy isle, they have a lot of old time candies that we grew up with and can't get elsewhere, my wife always has a fit!

The family and I just ate at Crack Barrel a couple of days ago. Food was good. I had the grilled chicken with chiles and cheese - whatever they call it. It was delicious. Server was slow and not very attentive, though. Of course we picked up some candy on the way to the register afterward. Maple pecan fudge and Bob's mint sticks. Hard to beat those. We also got some orange hard candy balls in a cardboard box made to look like a wooden crate. Not sure of the brand, but those are delicious.

EDIT: I just walked into the kitchen to check and to pop one into my mouth. They're called Perle di Sole - made in Italy.

Enjoyed reading through the posts....
It's funny - CB is the interstate version of Heaven's Waiting Room.

I'm a people watcher hobbyist. Watch old guys enter the dining area. Almost invariably - mouth open, slightly confused look, the classic slow head swivel, unable to keep up with the hostess going to the table.

The irony is not lost on me that most of the decor is American made stuff (what's actually old), and everything in the 'store' is courtesy of China.

SURE. THE Sears catalog torn into squares sitting on a nail in the outhouse. A bag of lime nearby that only Dad or Grandad could throw down the hole.......But God, it was cold in the winter time...

Funny, us Ole Timers say the same thing about Smith & Wesson: "I still like them, but remember when they were a lot better!"

Have a blessed day,

Sounds like C.B. may be crowding American Pickers style a bit. They also still use repo stuff.

The last two times I've been to Cracker Barrel have convinced to never bother to go again. The next to last time I was there, there were three strands of long black hair on my plate which was sent back. My hair is snow white! The last time I was there, I found a piece of green colored glass in my food. Lucky I saw it on the plate and didn't discover it by eating it.

Cracker Barrel - Never Again!

Frequent the Cracker Barrel weekly. Know the manager well. Everything on display is 100% authentic and local to that particular area. They buy estates and are second only to the Smithsonian in artifacts. He said a customer recognized a picture on the wall as relatives and they presented it to him gift wrapped. Like them or not they are the real deal.
