Heck, you could already hunt feral pigs from a helicopter with machine guns.

You might want a real good balloon pilot to get you there and back safely on a hog hunt. I think I would opt out on the balloon hunt and stay on foot. I don't think parachutes work very well from balloons.

Might help you to quietly sneak up on the hogs but unless the hogs flee the same way the wind is blowing you aren't going to get many second shots.

They wanted to use poison, glad that one didn't pass! It will take changes in land owners frame of mind on hog control before anything works to actually reduce hog numbers. Most land is leased for hunting and the price is high to just hunt hogs.

We get tourist hot air balloons over the ranch fairly often. My animals hate them. I can't imagine feral hogs would be any less sensitive. They're fun to moon though, I'll say that!

Who cares? I'll bet someone who sells balloon rides wanted to expand the business and had a hook with an elected official.
I was listening to Michale Berry today and his comment was "What could go wrong?" - followed by a skit of "Bubba" shooting down the balloon he was riding in and missing the hog.

A 30 cal hole in the balloon envelope is not that big a deal.
Nothing good can come from shooting the propane tank.
But by far the greatest danger to hot air balloons are power lines.
Like when you are flying low so you can shoot hogs.

Seems like a moot law to me. I mean how many Texas balloon owners are there in Texas and of them how many would have any interest in shooting hogs from it let alone allow anyone else to do it?

Not only that, but you have to get the property owner's permission and the operator must have a state license. This is going to be a very limited and expensive way to hunt hogs. It's going to be a lifetime experience sort of adventure, not really an effective means of eradicating feral hogs.

Too bad it's not realistic. I could just picture this phalanx of balloons in Longview TX spreading out across the night sky, raining lead on the feral scourge.

Now you're talking! That would definitely make it interesting. I remember the jet packs from when I was a kid. The problem with them is the very limited amount of fuel, time of flight, flight radius, etc..... I was surprised how limited they were/are.... And they are probably very loud!

Why would anyone pay good money to go up in a balloon just to shoot feral pigs? Ever been up in a balloon? Itcan get hot in that gondola...that burner puts out a lot of heat and it doesn't all go up into the envelope. That's why competent balloon pilots advise passengers to wear a hat or a cap.
Besides, I'm told it's legal in Texas to shoot hogs over bait or at a feeding station. So guys can sit themselves at any preferred distance with their high powered rifles and just shoot the hogs any time, day or night. They can even pretend that they're real "hunters" and that they're actually "hunting".

Notice vonn's belt buckle? Are you sure he and his .44 did not parachute in to take down Mr Hog? Hot air hog hunting might be considered tame to lame by some folks.

Got those hogs on foot walking, got three with four shots as they scattered into the oak motts. You can hunt feeders if you have night vision. Where I hunt is very thick brush and you have to push them out of the thick stuff. If you don't think it is hunting you should give it a try and see how many you harvest.

Best part is, if you just weld a few pieces of steel together for a turning spit, you can hold a pig roast right there in the gondola.

I don't think there is any real limitation to how you take hogs in the Great State of Texas. RPG's may be legal.

Have to start informing the public of the benefits of hog hunting instead of just crying about the damage done...
Get a show on the FoodNetwork..Get some cook books out there.Think of all the homeless that could be fed.Where's Ted Nugent when you need him.
Putting a high price tag on hog hunting is ridiculous. You wouldn't charge a plumber to come to your house so why would you charge someone to get rid of feral hogs. You want to profit from others helping you out then I say deal with it yourself.Let us know how that works out for you.Shouldn't be anything more than a permit required to hopefully ensure that things are done safely.

Hopefully, fading away into well deserved and long overdue obscurity.

I,m sure the hunter's talk will be enough to keep the balloon aloft.
